Persepolis Essay

Reverse Outline

Paragraph 1: Intro. Persepolis is a non fictional memoir written by the native Iranian woman, Marjane
Satrapi.

Thesis: “Satrapi’s non fictional memoir and vivid storytelling creates a closer connection to the author
than any similar fictional tale could have.”

Paragraph 2: Brief background of the author’s life and a description of Persepolis.

Paragraph 3: Example of the writer’s talent of conveying a message through the use of pictures.

Paragraph 4: Example of some of the things the author went through as a child, as described in her book.

Paragraph 5: Summary of how the author ended her story and how her upbringing shaped her adult life.

Paragraph 6: Explanation of why I believe my thesis is correct.

Paragraph 7: Conclusion

I tried to write this essay in an order that made the most sense to a reader that might not have read
Persepolis. I tried to give examples in each paragraph that would show the reader why my thesis is correct
and to show the reader why in this case fact is better than fiction. I wanted to give the reader a glimpse in
to the author’s life and upbringing with explaining every last part of her book. In retrospect I feel I could
have written a better essay about this book but the time constraint made thing difficult for me. As far the
order in which I wrote each paragraph, I don’t think they are specifically “out of order” but I think I could
have made the essay less of a summary and more of a character study.
