DIY CAR VOLTAGE STABILIZER

Attention: Do this at your own risk. The author shall not be

responsible for any damage or injury caused by using
this circuit design. If you are unsure of any terms,
please consult someone with electronic-based
knowledge.

First of all, you need basic tools, which are :

1) Soldering Iron
2) Soldering Lead
3) Plier
4) Cutter (normal plier look alike but has only cutting tip)
5) Pocket Knife
6) Black Tape
7) Room/space with sufficient lighting

Then we go to the circuit diagram :

Dotted line, LED (D1) and Resistor (R1) are optional.

Please note the polarity of the capacitors and LED. Leg at the
grey strip on capacitor body is the negative leg. As for LED,
shorter leg is the negative leg.

The components required are:

1) C17-C22 --- 4700uF 85°c 16v Electrolytic Capacitor --- 5 units

2) C11-C16 --- 3300uF 85°c 16v Electrolytic Capacitor --- 5 units
3) C1-C10 --- 1000uF 85°c 16v Electrolytic Capacitor --- 10 units
4) F1 --- Car Fuse 20A --- 1 units
5) Connector for fuse --- 2 units
6) Ring connector (if want to connect direct to battery) --- 2 units
7) Sufficient wires (if possible, get speaker wires) --- n/a
8) Veroboard --- 1 unit
9) Plastic/PVC box --- 1 unit

Optional (for decorative purpose)

10) D1 LED (any colour) --- 1 unit
11) R1 1K Resistor 1/4w --- 1 unit

If you want to connect the vs direct to the battery, it is

advisable that u get 105 °c capacitors instead of 85 °c.
For in-cabin use, 85 °c capacitors should be enough.

You can also use only 8x 1000uF capacitors instead of 10x,

for better fitting into the box.

The purpose of using different value capacitors is that each

corresponding value recharge and discharge at different rate,
and also filter certain level of electrical noise. Therefore using
different valued capacitors theoretically can support wider
range of current fluctuation.

Estimated price:

1) 4700uF capacitor 85°c 16v --- RM 1.50/pc

2) 3300uF capacitor 85°c 16v --- RM 1.50/pc
3) 1000uF capacitor 85°c 16v --- RM 0.60/pc
4) Car Fuse 20A --- RM 0.60/pc
5) Connector for fuse --- RM 0.20/pc
6) Ring connector (if want to connect direct to battery) --- RM 0.20/pc
7) Sufficient wires (if possible, get speaker wires) --- RM 4.00/mtr
8) Veroboard --- RM 1.20/pc
9) Plastic/PVC box --- RM 3.00/pc

Optional (for decorative purpose)

10) LED (any colour) --- RM 0.50/pc
11) 1K Resistor 1/4w --- RM 0.05/pc

Important! Do surveys on better priced shop as the price may

differ according to place/shop. In my hometown, I found 3
different price for 4700uF capacitor, which are RM 1.50, RM
2.80 and RM 3.50. All of them are same spec but come from
different manufacturer. All shops within same building!

The layout is as follows:

Figure 2: The components layout example on veroboard (Not to scale)

Please note the polarity of the capacitors and LED. Leg at the
grey strip on capacitor body is the negative leg. As for LED,
shorter leg is the negative leg.

It’s advisable to use different colour of wire for easy

differentiate between positive and negative line.

Installation :

1) Car battery - Attach the + wire to the battery + terminal,

and – wire to the battery – terminal.

2) In-cabin 12v socket - Tap the + wire to the blue wire, and – wire to
the white wire. May also use car plug socket. Use
your creativity.

due to limited box size

Voltage Stabilizer is best coupled with grounding cables for

maximum effect. Best grounding points would be from battery
negative terminal to:

(best priority from top)

1) Engine Head (nearest to spark plug is better)
2) Alternator
3) Throttle Body
4) Firewall
5) Right Body
6) Left body
7) Front Body

GOOD LUCK

HAPPY DIY-ing
