Applications are now being accepted
for the Hennepin Foundation’s 2011-12
Scholarship Awards. The forms are

The scholarship awards are typically
$500-$3000 for one year at a time. The
highest priority is given to Hennepin
Church members attending seminary
and those pursuing social service
careers, but others will be considered

TO WALK TO EMMAUS

Cursillo is the Catholic model of the
many 72 hour spiritual weekends with
Christ and Walk to Emmaus is the
Methodist model.
Who may go when is a big difference.
For Emmaus all Christians are welcome
when each person is ready, not so for
Cursillo. Comfort on the weekend is
important for Emmaus and offers church
camps with beds and showers, not so
for Cursillo.
And the walking message sometimes
is confusing, but comes from the Bible
after Christ’s Resurrection, Luke 24:13 is
the scene, ”On the road to Emmaus
after Jesus’ death, two of his followers
were walking from Jerusalem back
toward Emmaus when a stranger joined
them. During dinner in Emmaus, Jesus
instruction, discussed with the Church,

gift wishes are understood.

PARISH NURSING

PARISH NURSE
Who is the Parish Nurse (PN) and
what do Parish nurses do?
I am a registered Public Health nurse
who is passionate about promoting health
and wellness and disease prevention
activities for all involved.
The PN serves in partnership with the
congregation’s ministry staff. The PN
assesses and coordinates health care
situations for the needs of the members,
promotes health and acts a resource
person for those in health transition. A
PN does not provide direct, hands-on
care such as wound care, medication
administration and/or treatments.
This 10hr/wk PN position currently
focuses on two areas within the Health
ministry role. One being a Health
Educator/Promoter and the other a guide
and/or support person for existing
Congregational Care Ministry groups.
The PN interacts and networks with
the medical care, community health and
social advocacy care teams surrounding
the congregational community. The health
and wellness of the whole person
continues to be priority.
A Health Ministry team meets every
two months to assist and support the PN
in ministry leadership and development
of caring ministry activities. Anyone
interested in serving on this team is
wholeheartedly welcomed.
The Health Ministry mission statement
is three fold:
Promote Health and Wellness; Pro-
vide a Healing Environment and Health
Connections
An underlying theme emerges here
and that is to CARE for the CAREGIVER.
We all are caregivers of some sort and
therefore deserve and need CARE and
ATTENTION for our own well-being. I
encourage each one of us to embrace
and experience the Healing and Healthy
life journey together as a connectional,
hopeful community.

NURTURE-NATURE-SELF
SPRING RETREAT AT KOINONIA
Reward yourself for surviving the
winter of 2011 by signing up for
“Nurture - Nature - Self,” the Hennepin
Spring Retreat at Koinonia in early May.
Three church groups are trying some-
thing new, joining together to plan
concurrent retreats. This will permit
people from one group to sit in on a
program of special interest put on by
another group. It also makes possible
a two-night stay for those who want
more time to enjoy Koinonia’s gifts.
The programs of each group are being
planned by the group, but program
sessions will be open to others who
want to attend. The New Life Adventures
retreat will run from dinner Thursday
night, May 5, through dinner on Friday,
May 6. The Ecology and the United
Methodist Women groups will meet
from dinner on Friday night, May 6,
through dinner on Saturday night, May
7. Koinonia will also be available for
individuals who want to come out for a
personal retreat.
The fee schedule will be: $115 per
person for the full weekend, (2 nights + 7
meals); $65 per person for an individual
group’s retreat (overnight + 4 meals); A
la carte charges are $8 breakfast, $9
lunch, $10 dinner, and $30 overnight.

members, and will also be available in
Carlson Hall during April.

Journey, 9:30 Sanctuary, and 11:00 AM
