who have been on the out-of-work list will grab up those
jobs as soon as they come in. It would be quite a commentary
indeed if our Book I Brothers/Sisters decided to "pass" on
these jobs in the hopes of getting the "big OT" jobs, it's not
happening. My advice is, take the jobs that come in because there are no

JATC Installs a New Flagpole

For about a year and a half there has been an effort to purchase a flagpole for
the JATC. In the latter part of 2001 fourth year apprentice Jim O'Conner donated

with a proposal and approved the purchase of a flagpole.

Wi t h c o o r d i n a t i o n f r o m J AT C D i r e c t o r D o n D i x o n
and Instructor Carl Latona, staff and volunteers
dug a hole and poured the base for the pole. They
then installed an outdoor light to shine on the flag
at night. Rosendin Electric volunteered a boom truck,
and on March 12 the new flagpole was set.

The fifth year class purchased a California flag and

now two flags proudly fly next to the front entrance
of the JATC. "I believe this project made our apprentices
more aware of our facility and that there's an increased
sense of ownership. It's been a very positive experience
for everyone" say's Don Dixon.

It's a great addition to the facility and congratulations

to all who made it happen.

Nineteen members of the Women's Committee attended the Women Building California Conference
in Sacramento on March 15 and 16. The conference was sponsored by the State Building and
Construction Trades Council of California (SBCTCC)
in collaboration with Tradeswomen, Inc.

This year the conference hosted over four hundred

tradeswomen representing more than twenty trades.
Local 332 received an award of recognition for sending
the largest contingent to the conference. Conference
attendees talked with state elected officials, participated
in workshops and worked with sister IBEW locals.

Congratulations to Local 332 members Ana Medina
