Тема урока: The world of travelling

Цель урока: развитие коммуникативной компетенции обучающихся в


устной речи на уроках английского языка

Задачи урока:

Образовательные:

1. Активизировать тематическую лексику в диалогической и монологической


речи учащихся в процессе развития коммуникативной компетенции
учащихся;

2. Развивать навыки монологического высказывания;

3. Познакомить с клише, необходимыми для логического построения


высказывания и выражения собственного мнения и научить использовать их
в речи.

Развивающие:

1. Формировать умения актуализировать, систематизировать, обобщать


имеющиеся знания учащихся и использовать их для решения конкретной
задачи, смоделированной на занятии;

2. Развивать способности к анализу, синтезу, творческому и критическому


мышлению при проведении дискуссий и выражении собственного мнения;

3. Развивать языковую догадку;

4. Развивать умение воспринимать на слух основное содержание высказывания.

Воспитательные:
1. Воспитывать умение слушать собеседники, работать самостоятельно и в
группе;
2. Воспитывать умение давать адекватную оценку своей работе;
3. Формировать социальную компетенцию, которая проявляется в желании и
умении вступать в коммуникативный контакт с другими людьми

1. Организационный момент. Приветствие.


T – Good morning, everybody! I’m glad to see you. Take your seats.
2. Речевая разминка.

There are some proverbs and sayings .Let’s read and translate them.

1. Every country has its customs. /У каждой страны свой обычай. Что город,

What’s the topic of our lesson? Yes, we are going to speak about travelling. « The
world of travelling» is the topic of our lesson. What are we going to do at the
lesson?
We are going to speak about different countries, ask and answer the questions ,
describe pictures.

this word. Write them down. Work in groups, please.

Conversation questions / Беседа по вопросам/

1) Nowadays travelling is one of the most popular hobbies. What makes


people travel? Why do they want to visit new places?

a) People travel to see other countries and continents, modern cities and the ruins
of ancient towns. They want to meet different people and make friends with
them, to try local food, to listen to different musical rhythms.
b) It is very interesting and exciting to travel and to discover new things,
different ways of life. We can visit different places of interest and see ancient
palaces and churches, wonderful castles and famous monuments.
c) In my opinion, travelling broadens the mind. While travelling we can see and
learn a lot of interesting things that we can never learn staying at home and
watching TV or reading books.
d) From my point of view, some people travel to explore nature, to enjoy
picturesque places or just for a change of scene.
e) I think that travelling is a good way to practice foreign languages. If you are
fond of travelling abroad, it is necessary to know English. In this case it is
easier for you to communicate, to understand people and to be understood.
English will help you to learn more about new customs and traditions, to
understand the culture of a foreign country better.
2) What ways of travelling do you know?

a) People can travel by plane, by train, by sea, by car or on foot. Nowadays some
young people spend their holidays hiking as it helps them to become strong and
healthy. It also teaches them how to survive.

3) What ways of travelling do you prefer ? Why?

a) As for me, I prefer travelling by plane because it is the quickest way of


travelling and I don’t want to waste my time on holiday.
b) I enjoy travelling by car because you don’t have to buy tickets and carry your
heavy luggage. You can stop at any place you like, enjoy the beauty of nature and
take pictures.
You see that “Tastes differ “. But I’m sure everybody likes to travel because it
is an amazing experience. But different people spend their time on holiday in
different ways.

4) Where do people usually spend their holidays? /at the seaside, in the
country, at home, abroad, in the mountains/

5) Have you ever been abroad? Where have you been?

6) What places of interest do people usually visit during their trips?

1. You are at a tourist centre. You are looking for a place to spend your holidays

- Hello, I’m looking for a place to spend my holidays. Could you offer me
something interesting?
- Да, конечно. Как долго вы собираетесь путешествовать? ( Yes,
certainly. How long are you going to travel?)
- For about a fortnight.
- Вам нравится активный отдых или вы предпочитаете где-нибудь в
тихом месте просто расслабиться? ( Do you like active holidays or would you
prefer to stay somewhere in a quiet place just to relax?)
- Well, I’d like to go on a sightseeing tour to Europe. I think Great Britain is
the best place for it. It’s a unique country, which is worth seeing. Besides, it’s the
best way to practice your English. Which cities and towns would you advise me to
visit?
- Первое, что вы должны посетить, я думаю –это Лондон, столицу
Великобритании. ( First ,I think you should visit London, the capital of Great
Britain)
- And how much is this tour?
- Это зависит от отеля, но средняя цена около 600 долларов( Well, it
depends on the hotel, but the average price is about $ 600 )
- And which hotel would you advise me to stay at?
- Я порекомендовала бы вам “The New Barbican”. Это современный
отель, очень комфортабельный и недалеко от центра (I would recommend
you the New Barbican. It’s a modern hotel, very comfortable and not far from
the centre).
- Fine, that will do. Let’s sign a contract.

2. You are considering visiting the city and now you’d like to get more
information. In 1.5 minutes you are to ask five direct questions to find out about
the following:

1) dates for departures


2) hotel facilities
3) if breakfast is included
4) number of city tours
5) discounts

3. You are considering going on a cruise and now you’d like to get more
information. In 1.5 minutes you are to ask five direct questions to find out about
the following:

1) new vacation packages


2) sail dates
3) prices/discounts
4) ship
5) restaurants, bars and clubs

Развитие навыков монологической речи./ Описание фотографий./

Задание 1

While travelling we always take a lot of photos and now I want you to
describe the one you like most of all.

You will have to start speaking in 1.5 minutes and will speak for not more
than 2 minutes (12-15 sentences). In your talk remember to speak about:
 where and when the photo was taken
 what/who is in the photo
 what is happening
 why you keep the photo
 why you decided to show the picture to your friend

You have to talk continuously, starting with: “I’ve chosen photo number….”

Before doing the task, answer my questions:


1.When and where was the photo taken?
2.Whom can you see in the foreground of the picture?
3.What are the people doing?
4.Why are the young girl and the receptionist smiling?
5.What season is it?
6.What are people wearing?
7.What can you see in the background of the picture?
8. Do you like the lobby in brown and yellow colours?
9. Why do you keep this photo in your album?
10.Why did you decide to show the picture to your friend?
Sample answer

While travelling I always take many photos and today I’m going to tell you
about picture 1. I took this photo when I was on my trip to France last summer.

In the foreground of the picture you can see my sister and the receptionist.
They are in the lobby. My sister is very happy because her dream came true: she
is at the five-star hotel. The receptionist is giving her a room key at the arrival day.
He and the woman at the reception desk are friendly and smiling. The receptionist
is going to help my sister with her luggage.

In the background of the picture there is a small table, three armchairs and a
comfortable sofa. I like the room in brown and yellow colours because it makes
the room cosy, bright and beautiful. On the walls there are posters and rules for
travellers.

I took this picture to recollect the moment of our arrival. Moreover, I used this
photo for my school project called “The world of travelling”. That’s why I keep
this photo in my album.

I decided to show this photo to you because you are going to have a holiday in
France next summer and I would like to recommend you this hotel.

That’s all I wanted to say.


Задание 2

Study the two photographs. In 1.5 minutes be ready to compare and contrast
the photographs:

 give a brief description of the photos /action, location/


 say what the pictures have in common
 say in what way the pictures are different
 say which of the activities presented in the picture you’d prefer
 explain why

You will speak for not more than 2 minutes (12-15 sentences). You have to
talk continuously.
Before doing the task, answer my questions:
1.What is the common theme of these pictures?
2.What does the 1st picture show?
3.What are the family doing?
4.What’s the weather like?
5.What can you see in the background of the picture?
6.Who is depicted in the 2nd picture?
7.What’s the girl doing?
8.What kind of sport is she fond of?
9.She is enjoying a spectacular view from the rock, isn’t she?
10.Is the day sunny and clear?
11.What’s the main similarity between the pictures?/ what are the differences?
12.What kind of sports would you prefer and why?
Sample answer

I would like to compare and contrast the photos which are presented here.
There are different ways of going in for sports. And these two photos prove that.
I should say that the common theme of these pictures is doing sports.
Let me start with the 1st picture which shows a family: a boy, a girl and their
parents. The parents teach their children new downhill technique. And now they
stopped for a while to take breath. They also have all the necessary skiing
equipment for this kind of sport. As you can see they look very healthy and happy.
In the background of the picture you can see mountain peaks covered with snow.
The day is sunny and frosty and we see mountains quite well.
As for the 2nd picture, it shows a young girl sitting on the top of the rock.
She is fond of hiking. It must be summer because she is wearing a white T-shirt
and shorts. She is enjoying a spectacular scenery from the rock. The sky is blue
with white clouds and there is mist in the distance.
The two pictures have little in common. The most obvious similarity
between photo1 and photo2 is doing sports. People are going in for sports in the
open air. You can’t but agree with me that they look fit and healthy.
Obviously, there are a lot of differences. The 1st picture shows 2 children
and their parents in the mountains, but, in contrast, the second one shows one
girl on the top of the rock. Besides, they go in for different kinds of sport. Finally,
the season is different. In the 1st picture it is a sunny winter day, whereas in the 2nd
picture, it is a cloudy summer day.
As for me, I’d prefer to ski in the mountains because I like this kind of
sport. Moreover, it makes me sporty and strong.
In conclusion, I would like to say that both pictures make me think that
sport is a great way to spend free time and, of course, it is useful for your health.
That’s all I wanted to say. Thank you for listening.

3. Список полезных выражений, которые помогут вам сравнить две
фотографии на английском языке

[Введение] Well, I would like to compare and contrast the photos which are
presented here.

Obviously, both photos are related to the same theme. It is animal life.

[Аспект 1] Let me start with the first photo which shows a polar bear in the
zoo. A lot of people have gathered around its open-air cage. They are taking
pictures.

As for the second photo, it shows a brown bear in the forest. The bear is carrying
a log and looks quite happy. The season is probably summer.

[Аспект 2] The photos have little in common. The only similarity is that they
show an animal, the bear.

[Аспект 3] Obviously, there are a lot of differences. The first photo shows a bear
in the zoo but, in contrast, the second one shows a bear in its natural habitat, the
forest.

Besides, the bear in the first photo looks gloomy whereas in the second one the
bear seems rather happy and lively.

Finally, the season is different. The sad and gloomy colours of the first photo are
contrasted to the bright and cheerful colours of the second one.

[Аспект 4, аспект 5] Personally, I would certainly prefer freedom for wild


animals. That is why I feel strongly against the first photo. I can’t help feeling sad
and worried about that unlucky bear, which looks tired of people’s attention. I
really do think that keeping wild animals in zoos is inhuman. More than that, I
strongly believe that that every living being should have the right to be free.

about animal life but in a different way.

Основные ошибки, которые допускают учащиеся во время выполнения


задания 4:

 описание сюжета двух картинок, а не их сравнение;


 отсутствие выделения общих и отличительных характеристик
картинок;
 отсутствие выражения отношения к картинкам;
 отсутствие вступительной и заключительной фраз;
 отсутствие разговорных клише при сравнении картинок;
 фонетические и лексико-грамматические ошибки в ответе.
