the second part to "How do I file my CS journal?

": How should I study for my CS

Exam?
It may be a little late, I was planning on writing this immediately after the CP
2 paper itself, buit some events had to occur before this happened, and as soon
as those events completed, I thought might as well...
First, is everyone clear on the portion....?
The paper is for 75 Marks, there is theory, letter writing, vocabulary and also
technical writing... Its a 2 HOUR PAPER.
I suggest have a look through a paper, atleast one paper before you go for the e
xam on Friday...
On how to attempt that paper, ie in order to complete it and score more side by
side.
A lot of this info is because of Dr. Kajli Sharma's advice, It really made sense
when I was at the receiving end of it.
1. One should attempt Vocabulary first because comparitively we are better off a
t vocabulary and simple English. *Yogesh and I should be relieved that its a wri
tten paper and not an Oral examinatio...hehe *
2. The theory questions, short notes, compare, differentiate and all that.
The theory questions are generally based on the following:
a. Communication- Definition
b. Communication-Process along with the diagram, Rx, Tx, channel etc
c. Methods of Communication
d. Organizational Communication-Upward, Downward, Lateral, Inward, Outward, Grap
evine etc.
e. Barriers
f. Listening
g. Reading
The above topics comprise maximum of the theory. Read this for sure, the rest li
ke Group Discussion, Debate and all that are a part of the syllabus only because
of the Practical and Oral Examinations. SO they are not to be asked, but Ma'am
did not deny the fact that some examiners may ask. SInce GD and all are regular
topics so writing on them maynot be difficult.
3. Comprehension/Sumarry
If it is a difficult one, attempt a few of the questions and leave it for later.
Remember one thing, if you get like 2 questions wrong in the whole thing, you l
oose 3 marks, but if ya avoid this and concentrate on the letter first, and if t
he format is even a bit wrong, its a big zero
REMEMBER, SPELLING MISTAKES IN VOCABULARY QUESTIONS ARE GIVEN ZERO.
MISTAKE IN THE LETTER FORMAT WILL FETCH ZERO.
4. Technical Writing.
There is an option on doing this first only if you are completely and definitely
sure of this topic. KS students have missed a lecture on this, the definition p
art of it, so work on this one.
THE DIAGRAM FOR TECHINICAL WRITING SHOULD BE DRAWN NEATLY WITH A PENCIL AND SCAL
E. IT FETCHES 3 MARKS
5. Letter/Guided Letter question
Be careful about the formats. Best book to read this is Murphy. FYI: Not availab
le for issue in library as all copies are gone. There is of course on ref copy l
eft.
Read the formats from KS notes again
A few words about the letters.
a. The Semi-Block style is the Old formatting style and follows closed punctuati
on, that is comma after every line in the Inside Address.
b. The Complete Block style is the new formatting style and follows open punctua
tion.
c. The Block style is a balance between both the old and new and follows closed
punctuation
d. Ref Line for the letter comes above the Inside Address below the Date line.
e. Sub is ideally after the salutation, marks are given in the exam for both bef
ore and after (any one of them) the salutation line.
f. The letter head comes right in the centre of the document on the top. There w
ill be no receiver's address then!!!
g. we write "Yours Sincerely," in the end and no apostrophe in the yours.
h. Its Thank you, or I thank you very much (without comma). THANKING YOU is wron
g
I have tried my level best to include most of it. Please dont count any word as
final and binding. The DISCLAIMER applies....
You can always call if you have a doubt or a concern. You can always add info to
this note for the benefit of others.
Where to read from?
Rumours suggest Chumiki Biswas notes are good enough to pass. I havent even seen
the notes, so I dont have a say on this. I know I am not doing good by spreadin
g rumours.
For the people who have techmax, the size is a BIG DEMOTIVATING factor, I sugges
t read it like a novel, dont grasp much from it, but look at the no. of points g
iven for each and every answer. Use them for your answers. As you are very well
aware, KS notes are concise, so for elaboration purposes read thru Tech max. Rea
d chapters 1 and 2, nicely, most of 3 can be skipped ie the debate/ GD part.
I suggest Objectives and Imp of Commn is good in KS notes, also Body lang interp
retation and all is good there.
Please please do, or atleast go through a paper to find out the types of questio
ns
All the best, may this help.
Always at your service,
Bhavesh Raheja
P.S: I know its TOO TOO LONG! but this is not a chat conversation(no mocking), I
write this with the main aim of helping, and I know how many have REALLY starte
d studying!!!
