Bright idea to
cut speeds on
busy road

Two 30mph ‘flashing’

signs have been
installed at the
zebra crossing near
Chester’s Kingsway
Shopping Parade
- paid for by local
Councillors Adrian
Walmsley and John
Ebo.
The scheme was funded
from their individual
community budgets.
Adrian Walmsley,
Hoole and Newton
Councillor, said: “For
some considerable time
now, residents living in the Kingsway area have been concerned about excessive vehicle
speeding on this stretch of road.
“It is sincerely hoped that the new warning signs will alert motorists of the 30mph limit and
to the fact that pedestrians cross the road at this spot, particularly those using the nearby
shops and the adjacent bus stop on the route from Kingsway to the city centre.”
Added Councillor John Ebo: “I can think of no better cause for spending part of the
community budget then on an initiative that adds to the safety and wellbeing of our local
residents.
“Now that the new warning signs have been introduced, both I and Councillor Walmsley will
monitor speeding levels on Kingsway very carefully indeed to assess their effectiveness,
and if successful will look to install similar signs in other parts of our ward with Hoole Lane
and Plas Newton Lane being priority areas.”
Cllr John Ebo, resident Ann Charlton, Stephen Mosley MP, Councillor Adrian
Walmsley. Resident Alan Thrasher and Councillor Tom Parry by one of the new
‘flashing’ road signs.

Although prepared for martyrdom, I preferred that it be postponed.

BE PART OF THE ACTION
An appeaser is one who feeds a crocodile, hoping it will eat him last.
HOOLE RANGERS FC

Depleted Rangers hope for

two wins to avoid the drop
Once again, rain and the poor drainage of our pitch has limited the number
of games played since mid February. The first team have lost both of their
games, going down narrowly to Sutton Way Villa ( 3-1) and to championship
contenders Railway Athletic ( 2-1 ).
Availability of first team players continues to create problems in all positions, but
particularly in defence, where we have had a different back four in every game played
since November. We hope that two more wins from our remaining seven games
will ensure we remain in the Premier league next year, and we are confident this is
achievable
On a brighter note, Hoole Rangers reserves have won their first game this season,
beating Lodge Bar by 3-1. If we can overcome bottom club Newton Bears twice before
the end of the season, we have a realistic chance of avoiding the drop into Division 3.
The young players continue to develop and we
Personal now have a nice balance between youth and older
(or more mature) players which bodes really well
for next season.
We continue to train on Tuesdays from 6-8pm
on New Scene all weather pitches, and from
April, the light nights will allow us to move onto
the grassed areas. Although registration for this
season is now closed, we would welcome any
new players who want to come down and train,
with a view to signing next season.
We are starting to make progress on the leasing
of our home pitch at Limewood fields with
Cheshire West and Chester council. Hopefully I
can report some positive news in the next edition.

Spring blossom, carpets of flowers

and fresh new leaves herald April.
I love the shrub Amelanchier lamarkii with
white starry flowers in April that contrast well
with the new bronze coloured leaves that turn
green and then red in autumn. For shrubs
with scent, consider Viburnum burkwoodii or

Q. I’ve been happily using the same skin care products for years,
but they don’t seem to be delivering the same results as they used
to. Do you have any suggestions?
A. Your skin is constantly changing and you need to adapt your skin
care products to suit the needs of your skin at that particular time.
Your skin can vary from month to month depending on your health
and exposure to environmental changes and certainly from season
to season. The skin care products needed during the autumn and
winter months can vary enormously from those required during the
spring and summer. More information on how you can adapt your
skin skin care routine o cope with seasonal changes are to be found
on the newsletter page at www.angelabartlett.co.uk.
I think you have been lucky to have achieved results
from using the same products for such a long time,

IMAGES OF A MOTHER
BY THE REV ANDY GLOVER

This April we celebrate 2 important days; right at the beginning of the

month, April 3rd we have Mother’s Day. Mothers know that a child’s growth
Is not measured by height or years or grade. It is marked by the progression
of Mummy to Mum to Mother…

The Images of a Mother:

4 years of age - my mummy can do anything!
8 years of age - my mum knows a lot! A whole lot!
12 years of age - my mother doesn’t know everything!
14 years of age - my mother? She wouldn’t have a clue.
16 years of age - mother? She’s so five minutes ago.

their children. Let’s say thanks to our mums! All too often we can take our mums for
granted - so it’s a good thing that Mother’s Day is around to remind us to celebrate
an important woman in our lives. Quite simply, none of us would be here without our mums!
To celebrate this event Who let the dads out will be holding an Open Day at Hoole Lighthouse Centre
on Sat April 2nd. The morning will be packed with activities for children and dads to make a special surprise for
mum, including cupcake decorating and card making. It’s a fantastic opportunity for any dads or male carers to come
along with their children and see what we’re all about. You’ll get valuable time with your children, and mum will get
some well deserved time off, everyone wins! “The session starts for dads and their children from 10am. Mums are
invited to come along from 11.30am to view the creative endeavors of their loved ones and enjoy a picnic lunch, finishing
when all the food is gone. It should be an extremely enjoyable family event”.

EASTER CELEBRATIONS
Then on the final Sunday of the month, April 24th, we shall celebrate Easter Sunday, the most
important day in the Christian Calendar – this day marks Jesus Christ out as being different from any other
religious leader in the world. Jesus Christ has caused more division, agitation and controversy than any other name
in history. Unlike any other widely followed religious leader in history, Jesus Christ made a unique claim. He declared
Himself God. Not a god, not god-like, but God incarnate - the Creator of the universe in human flesh. And he claimed
that the fact that he rose from the dead proved this! That is why Easter is such an important festival.
As you are eating your chocolate Easter egg don’t forget that Easter is the time of the Christian year when we remember
the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Here’s a riddle that you might like to ponder on: “Jesus has risen or has
Jesus risen?” The typical responses to the life and claims of Jesus Christ sound something like this: “Jesus Christ was
a great man.” “Jesus Christ was a wonderful moral model.” “Jesus Christ was an enlightened religious teacher.” “Jesus
Christ was an esteemed prophet.” However these types of statements raise a compelling “trilemma.” Once you examine
the actual claims of Jesus and His eyewitness followers, there are really only three alternatives for who He really is -
Jesus Christ was either a liar, a lunatic, or our Lord. “The issue with these three alternatives is not which is possible,
for it is obvious that all three are possible. But rather, the question is ‘which is more probable?’ Is Jesus is Lord? If he
is then his offer of new life is something we should seriously consider! To help you do this an Alpha Course shall be
running in May here in Hoole we’d love to invite you to come and ask your questions!

I have nothing to offer but blood, toil, tears and sweat. I
