New zebra crossing

A zebra crossing is being installed in
Handbridge, funded by Cheshire West and
Chester Council with contributions from the
three Overleigh ward Councillors.
Overleigh Councillors Razia Daniels, Arthur
Harada and Richard Short have contributed
towards the Queen’s Park Road scheme

Councillor Daniels said: Local people have
wanted a safe crossing at this junction for
a long time and | know that it will be used
by everyone in the community – families,
children and older people.”

Police tackle bike thefts

There have been further thefts of bikes from the Handbridge area
Plans to address the issue:
PCSO Pendrey and colleagues from the Chester Outer Neighbourhood Policing
Team will continue to run high visibility and covert patrols around this area in order
to catch the culprits. A further Bike Etching event took place at LA Fitness in March
bwhere bike security advice was given.
We would advise members of the public to ensure their bikes are secured at all times.

• You said –. Bike thefts within the Overleigh area are still occurring. There have been
numerous thefts during February within Handbridge.
• We did – A Bike etching scheme has taken place at Catholic High School and St
Mary’s Church Hall with a total of 31 bikes etched and security advice given. Regular
high visibility patrols will continue to take place over the coming weeks in order to
deter further thefts of bicycles in these areas
• You said – Parking problems within Allington and Prenton Place. Inconsiderate
parking causing obstruction of the pavement.
• We did – PCSO Pendrey has worked in conjunction with Local Traffic Wardens in
order to provide regular high visibility patrols in this area. Advice has been given
to vehicle owners with penalty notices being issued to offenders. A total of 26 fixed
penalty notices were issued by Traffic Wardens within Handbridge during February.
The next Community Action Meeting will take place on Thursday 19th May

If you have any questions or see me on patrol please feel free to stop and chat or
alternatively contact either myself on 0845 458 6375 or by e-mail

Bryant, from the Hough Green Clinic

HOW CAN LIGHt Be USeD tO PerfOrM A

treAtMeNt?
When a bright beam of light enters your skin, natural pig-
ments in your body absorb the light and are converted into heat.
Natural pigments such as melanin are found in dark hair. A very
short pulse of light (only a few thousandths of a second) hits the
target and causes it to heat up. Because the light is so carefully
controlled, only the target (in this case the root of the hair) is
damaged- the surrounding skin and the water in the skin are not
harmed. The light only penetrates within a few millimetres of the
surface of the skin. Therefore, when the melanin in the treatment
area is “hit” by the light, the root of the problem, so to speak,
disappears.

CAN ALL UNWANteD eXCeSS HAIr Be treAteD?

No. Unfortunately, white hair, red hair and very blond hair do not
contain enough melanin to absorb light.
HOW MANY treAtMeNtS WILL I NeeD?
Normally between 4 and 6 treatments. Hair grows in cycles. The
time to treat a hair successfully is when it is in its growing phase. You
know when you pluck out an eyebrow hair and there is a black bulb
or root? That hair is still in its growing phase. The first 3 treatments
are performed 4 weeks apart on the face and 6 weeks apart on the
body. After 3 treatments there should be a considerable reduction and
any remaining hair will be finer. Further treatments are carried out
with longer periods between each treatment.
For the past 6 years at The Hough Green Clinic we have been success-
fully treating hundreds of clients with our Ellipse IPL machine. Up-
per lip treatments are £25 per session, bikini treatments are from £85
and underarms £60 per session. For further details please telephone or
go to our website www.thehoughgreenclinic.co.uk. Alternatively make
an appointment for a free trial on a small patch of hair at the clinic.
Consultations and skin tests are completely free of charge.

Westminster Park
News from Westminster Park Residents’ Association
www.wp-ra.org.uk
Songs from the shows
On Saturday 9th April, Westminster Park Residents Association have arranged a ‘Songs
from the Shows’ musical evening with Chester Operatic Society performing at Westminster
Park Community Centre.
They will be singing before and after supper. The supper will be up to our usual standard
as the menu will be similar to the Quiz Night meal. During the evening the committee will
be making a presentation to local postman, Dave Dodd, who retired recently after covering
most of Westminster Park for the last nine years. Tickets are available from any committee
member at £10 each (cheap for a musical evening and a first class meal), or telephone me
on 01244 683461.

Farewell, Sally
Westminster Park Residents’ Association bids a fond farewell to Miss Sally Melvin, who,
after 28 years, is retiring from Belgrave School on 30th April.

Westminster Park weather

If you Google Chester weather you will find the current weather for Chester but it isn’t really
what you think. The nearest station that reports to the Meteorological Office and so makes
data available to the web is at Hawarden Bridge.
However, there is a station in Whaddon Drive that pushes its data onto the web at
chesterweather.org.uk
It is updated every 10 seconds and includes temperature, rain or snow, cloud, wind,
forecasts, road conditions, and even a camera view of the sky over Westminster Park.

Police patrols pay dividends

THE Neighbourhood Policing team has focused on getting patrols out at night in the
Westminster Park area.
The approach has proved successful and over what can be a busy period for crime,
residents around Westminster Park have experienced very few crimes.
PCSO Fox has also been out addressing speeding around Five Ashes Road / Rowcliffe
Avenue, which residents have claimed is a major issue for the local community. PCSO Fox
and a colleague went out to the location January with the speed gun and conducted speed
testing.
During the testing session 73 vehicles were monitored and one vehicle was found to be
going at an inappropriate speed. A warning letter has been sent out to the keeper of this
vehicle.
PCSO Fox is looking to carry out more speed testing sessions in Westminster Park.
However, two people are required to undertake the sessions and he is looking for
community volunteers to help with the speed testing.
If you are willing to assist could you email PCSO Fox on Christopher.Fox@cheshire.pnn.
police.uk and he will contact you and arrange an appropriate time.

Pavilion
opens just
in time
for new
season
A new pavilion at Westminster
Park has been completed and
officially opened to coincide
with the start of the bowling and
croquet season.
Westminster Park Bowling Club, Saltney Bowling Club and Chester Croquet Club will
be located there.
The project was funded by Cheshire West and Chester Council with a donation from
the Croquet Association. A kitchen was also donated by Deelux Kitchens.
Councillor Richard Short, Executive Member for Culture and Recreation, said: ”I am
very pleased for the Bowls and Croquet clubs; they have operated under very difficult
conditions for some years and it is great that they have proper facilities at long last.
“The new pavilion is very much a local success story with the majority of funding
coming from the Council’s Greenspace team.
“The new facilities will provide much needed storage space, is fully accessible and will
enable clubs to accommodate members as well as visiting teams.
“The pavilion has been relocated between the bowling greens and croquet lawn to
provide improved viewing for spectators.”

Pictured are Martin Thornhill (Greenspace, Cheshire West and Chester),

Martin Fraser (Bowling Club representative), Michael Jervis (Deelux Kitchens),
Councillor Richard Short, David Guyton and Janet Davies (Croquet Club
representatives), and Jackie Henson, Cheshire West and Chester Council.
