CSA 108I - Microsoft PowerPoint


Workshop
A word (or a few!) to the wise: Please take your time and maximize your
understanding of each skill you learn as you work through each chapter.
You will be using your new skills in each project as you progress through the course.
Each assignment builds upon the skills gained in the previous chapters and projects.

• An email account is required for this course. Please submit your assignments through
Blackboard for assessment. There are functions only visible when viewed on a computer. Your
instructor may choose to use email to communicate with you periodically throughout the
semester. Be prepared and check your mail often!
• To begin this course, purchase yourtextbook. If you wish to save transfer your work between a
home computer and a College computer, you will need to buy a floppy disk or USB drive.
Schedule and attend an orientation, read through your syllabus and assignment list.
• You will see instructions to save your work to a shared drive or a USB drive. If you don’t have a
USB drive, save all the files you are completing on your disk or M (Z) drive. Save often! Save all
work that is returned to you for your records and in case there are questions about your total
points.
• If you do not have the font or clip art the textbook suggests you use, simply substitute one that
lookssimilar. No points will be deductedfor the substitution.
• The student data files you will need for your assignments are inside the course CD that has
been included with your text. You will find many more files on this CD than you will need for the
assignments in this workshop. If you have any questions about how to find the file you need on
your CD, please ask!
• Your assignments need to be submitted through Blackboard. You must submit those
assignments as directed or you will not get any points for those assignments. If you are not
sure how to complete these steps, please, please, please ask an instructor! We will be happy to
help you.
• Please note the illustration below taken from the Blackboard Assignment feature
for instructions on how to submit multiple files in one assignment.

You can add multiple files to a single assignment. After you browse and select your first file,
look for the “Add AnotherFile” button under the “Attach Local file” field. Click ‘Add AnotherFile’
and another Browse button will appear to allow you to select another file. Continue until all your
files are attachedand then submit your complete assignment. (Note: you cannot add another
file to your assignment once you click the Submit button)

PowerPoint Assignment List

Syllabus Quiz: In order to be successful in any course, you need to understand the requirements of that
course. This quiz is a review of the contents of this document. Go to the Blackboard
Assignment folder to download your quiz. You will submit your completed quiz
through Blackboard.

*****Quiz is due the following Monday from your first day of class. Example...if you started
class on Tuesday September 5, then your quiz is due Monday September 11****.

Assignment A: Send an email to your instructor at lindsay_henning@yc.edu using your own email
account explaining what you hope to learn in this class. Please include in the
subject line your name and the course number. When you receive a response, please
print it out and submit it to your instructor. This is your first assignment and should be
completedbefore you continue. You will need an email account for this class.

If you don’thave an email account, please create one to complete this assignment. There
are many companies that offer free web-based email so there will be no extra cost to you.
If you need some help creating an email account, please ask your instructor.

Chapter One

Assignment 1: Project 15A- Open, Edit, Save, and Print a Presentation; Expansion (pgs. 3-31) You will
edit and format a presentation following the instructions in this chapter. (special note:
You will need to use “p15a_Expansion” which you will find on the CD that came with this
text.)

Work through the chapter to page 31 until you see “End You have completed
Project 15A”. It is at this point you will submit your assignment through Blackboard.

All assignments must be submittedusing the Blackboard assignment function. You will
not receive credit for this project if you print it out and submit it hardcopy to an instructor.

Assignment 2: Project 15B- Create and Format a Presentation Overview (pgs 32-46) You will create a
new presentation following the instructions in this project. (special note: You will need to
download three files: “p15B_Skyline, p15B_Cake, p15B_Template” which you will find on
the CD that came with this text.)

Work through the chapter to page 46 until you see “End You have completed
Project 15B”. It is at this point you will submit your assignment through Blackboard.

All assignments must be submittedusing the Blackboard assignment function. You will
not receive credit for this project if you print it out and submit it hardcopy to an instructor.

Assignment 3: Project 15C- Hospitality (pgs 51-53) In this project, you will apply the skills you practiced
from the Objectives in Project 15A. Follow the instructions in this assignment to edit a
presentation. (special note: You will need to use “p15C_Hospitality” which you will find on
the CD that came with this text.)

Work through the project to page 53 until you see “End You have completed
Project 15C”. It is at this point you will submit your assignment through Blackboard.

Assignment 4: Project 15D- Tires In this project, you will apply the skills you practiced from the
Objectives in Project 15B. (pgs 54-57) (special note: You will need to download three
files: “p15D_Background, p15D_Proposal_Template, p15D_Calculator” which you will
find on the CD that came with this text.)

Work through the project to page 57 until you see “End You have completed
Project 15D”. It is at this point you will submit your assignment through Blackboard.

Chapter Two

Assignment 5: Project 16A- Format a Presentation Welcome ( pg 81-107) You will edit and format a
presentation. (special note: You will need to download four files: “p16A_Snow,
p16A_Snowboard, p16A_Welcome, p16A_Winter” which you will find on the CD that
came with this text.)

Work through the project to page 107 until you see “End You have completed
Project 16A”. It is at this point you will submit your assignment through Blackboard.

Assignment 6: Project 16B- Enhance a presentation with SmartArt Graphics Itinerary (pg 108-124)
In this project you will edit a presentation. (special note: You will need to download five
files: “p16B_Itinarary, p16B_Reservations_Director, p16B_Ski_Lodge_Director,
p16B_Spa_Director, p16B_Tour_Director” which you will find on the CD that came with
this text.)

Work through the project to page 124 until you see “End You have completed
Project 10B”. It is at this point you will submit your assignment through Blackboard.

Assignment 7: Project 16C- Snowboarding- (pg 129-132) In this project, you will apply the skills you
practiced from the Objectives in Project 16A by editing an existing presentation. (special
note: You will need to download four files: “p16C_Board, p16C_Hillside,

p16C_Silhouette, p16C_Snowboarding” which you will find on the CD that came with this
text.)

Work through the project to page 132 until you see “End You have completed
Project 16C”. It is at this point you will submit your assignment through Blackboard.

Assignment 8: Project 16D- Lessons- (pg 133-135) In this project, you will apply the skills you practiced
from the Objectives in Project 16B. You will edit an existing presentation following the
instructions. (special note: You will need to download four files: “p16D_Cara,
p16D_Dane, p16D_Lessons, p16D_Marty” which you will find on the CD that came with
this text.)

Work through the project to page 135 until you see “End You have completed
Project 16C”. It is at this point you will submit your assignment through Blackboard.
