MAYOR MICHAEL R. BLOOMBERG NAMES DANIEL D. CHU CHAIR OF THE

NEW YORK CITY CIVILIAN COMPLAINT REVIEW BOARD

Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg today named Daniel D. Chu as Chair of the New York
City Civilian Complaint Review Board. Chairman Chu has been a member of the Board since
2008, and replaces Ernest F. Hart, who has served as Chair since 2009. The Civilian Complaint
Review Board is an independent agency created in 1993 to investigate allegations of police
misconduct. The Board is comprised of five members designated by the Mayor, five members
designated by the City Council, with one representing each of the boroughs, and three members
designated by the Police Commissioner.

“I’m glad Daniel Chu will continue his service to the CCRB as Chairman,” said Mayor
Bloomberg. “He has served as a prosecutor and as an attorney in private practice and brings
valuable experience and perspective to the board. I want to thank Ernie Hart for his service on
the board and for his leadership as Chair.”

“My service on the CCRB has been very fulfilling and I look forward to continuing it as
Chair,” said Chu. “The CCRB is an important institution in our City and I consider my service
on it a great privilege and responsibility. I would like to thank Mayor Bloomberg for giving me
the opportunity to continue my public service.”

“It has been a pleasure to serve the people of New York as Chair of the Civilian
Complaint Review Board,” said Ernie Hart. “Because of my recent appointment to
Queensborough Community College, I am stepping down from the CCRB. I have worked
closely with Daniel Chu and I am confident he will give the CCRB steady and capable leadership
going forward.”

Chairman Daniel Chu currently serves as lawyer in private practice, focusing on criminal
defense and civil litigation in State and Federal Courts. He previously served as an associate in
the law firm Stern & Montana LLP, and as an Administrative Law Judge at the Taxi and
Limousine Commission. He began his professional career as an Assistant District Attorney in the
Queens County District Attorney’s Office. He is a member of the New York City Bar
Association, the Asian American Bar Association of New York and the Queens County Bar
Association. Mr. Chu holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the State University of New York at
Buffalo and a Juris Doctor degree from St. John’s University School of Law. He lives in the
Jamaica Estates section of Queens.
