The NSW Division of the Australian Beer Can Collectors

Association (Inc) would like to take this opportunity to thank

Tooheys of Lion Nation for

their continued support of beer can collecting.
The Sensitive Man
A woman meets a man in a bar. They talk; they connect; they end up leaving
together.
They get back to his place, and as he shows her around his apartment. She
notices that one wall of his bedroom is completely filled with soft, sweet, cuddly
teddy bears. There are three shelves in the bedroom, with hundreds and
hundreds of cute, cuddly teddy bears carefully placed in rows, covering the
entire wall!
It was obvious that he had taken quite some time to lovingly arrange them and
she was immediately touched by the amount of thought he had put into
organizing the display.
There were small bears all along the bottom shelf, medium-sized bears cover-
ing the length of the middle shelf, and huge, enormous bears running all the way
along the top shelf.
She found it strange for an obviously masculine guy to have such a large
collection of teddy bears, She is quite impressed by his sensitive side, but
doesn't mention this to him.
They share a bottle of wine and continue talking and, after awhile, she finds
herself thinking, 'Oh my Goodness! Maybe, this guy could be the one! Maybe he
could be the future father of my children?'
She turns to him and kisses him lightly on the lips. He responds warmly. They
continue to kiss, the passion builds, and he romantically lifts her in his arms and
carries her into his bedroom where they rip off each other's clothes and make
hot, steamy love.
She is so overwhelmed that she responds with more passion, more creativity,
more heat than she has ever known.
After an intense, explosive night of raw passion with this sensitive guy, they are
lying there together in the afterglow. The woman rolls over, gently strokes his
chest and asks coyly, 'Well, how was it?'
The guy gently smiles at her, strokes her cheek, looks deeply into her eyes, and
says:
'Help yourself to any prize from the middle shelf '

A Nottingham brewery, Castle Rock, is producing a beer to celebrate the
marriage of Prince William and Kate Middleton.
Master Brewer Adrian Redgrove said the pale beer will be well balanced with
"some hops, some bitterness and sweetness coming through".
The beer, named Kiss Me Kate, will be available at the pump in time for the
Royal Wedding on 29 April 2011.

Superstar actress ANGELINA JOLIE has started collecting beer mats as a

reminder of her time spent living in rural England.
The TOMB RAIDER beauty has lived in Fulmer, Buckinghamshire, for the
past two years and loves the various designs of beer mats because they are
"so British".
Jolie, who is rumoured to be moving to Malibu, California, to live full-time with
boyfriend BRAD PITT, told drinkers at The Black Bull pub of her collection.
An onlooker tells British newspaper The Sun, "She made everyone laugh by
flipping a beer mat and saying she had a big collection."

February Meeting Report
The February meeting was held on a very warm, sunny, humid day in Peakhurst, at
Keith and Marion Loveridge’s house. There was a good turnout, with a lot of trade
boxes evident and some enthusiastic trading taking place.
After a couple of hours of trading and socializing, the
monthly meeting was started. A new member, Jan
Wroblewski, from Blaxland, was introduced. Jan col-
lects mainly coasters and glasses.
A special guest was announced, John Dunne (#0093),
from Queensland.
In the meeting proper, following the Secretary's and
Treasurer's reports, Adam presented two milestone
awards: To Mick Warner on attending his 100th meet-
New member Jan ing, and to Steve Howard, also for his 100th meeting.
Wroblewski A few new cans were displayed: A Tooheys Extra Dry
festival can from Western Australia; the Carlton Dry
aluminium bottle; and Hammer 'N' Tongs 330mL, an import from Vietnam. These are
all shown in the colour section.
Lindsay Watson gave a brief report on the ABCCA national meeting, held at the
Canathon in Hobart. He mentioned that the ABCCA website has been revamped and
is worth a look at http://www.abcca.com.au/index.html
Barry Rhall told about a craft brewery, Elmar's, in Henley Brook, WA, that has a new
5L keg, Ein Stein Pilsener, on sale at $50 each. Collectors of kegs should contact
their trading partners in the West. There was also a suggestion that a major brewery
in Australia will be producing a 5L keg sometime this year, but there were no
specifics.
Bottles of Carlton Dry were available for sale to members after the meeting.
In the raffle, Phil Waddington won First Prize, a bar mirror, and Terry Davies won
Second Prize, a tray of cans. I can’t remember who won Third Prize.
Next month’s meeting will be in Lemon Tree Passage, with Terry and Denise Davies.
Here are some cans which will be included in future raffles:

A Blonde Joke
Two blondes were in a parking lot trying to unlock the door of their car with a
coat hanger.
First Blonde: I can't seem to get this door unlocked!
Second Blonde: Well you better hurry up. It's starting to rain and the top is
down!

Trash”.

A Bit About Beer in Ethiopia
I found this beer mat from Ethiopia (left)
while surfing on the Internet. It's interesting
to see that the Ethiopians have their own
indigenous beers. Who knew?
The Bedele Brewery is located in Bedele
town 500 kilometres west of Addis Ababa.
The brewery was constructed with the as-
sistance of Czechoslovakia and inaugu-
rated in October 1993. The plant consis-
tently turns out 75 million bottles annually.
Modern features of the brewery are the 32
inverted conical fermentation vats (23 of
which hold 1000 hectolitres; 9 hold 500
hectolitres).
Bedele exports bottled beer to United States
through its exclusive agent Blue Nile Enterprises.
The company ships 12oz bottles in special and
premiere brand labels. Here's hoping they come
out with a can soon.
Other breweries in Ethiopia are Saint George, the
oldest brewery in Ethiopia, and Harar, which pro-
duces several varieties of beer including Hakim
Stout. The world is still waiting for some cans.

This article by Keith Loveridge was originally printed in last month's newsletter,
but by mistake the last two paragraphs fell off the bottom of the page. So I'm
reprinting the whole article so that it reads the way Keith wanted.

Although most beer can collectors know I only collect tap tops they always
seem to think of me when they see a different badge or decal on a tap
somewhere.
The one on the left was spotted by Keith Bennett #1594 and emailed me the
details the same day.
Oscars chain of hotels had two beers on tap Pilsner and Lager. The Lager was
sourced from Monteiths Brewery in New Zealand and the Pilsner is made by
Bluetongue Brewery. I was lucky enough to obtain the decals from one of their
hotels in Sydney.
The Jesse James decal was spotted by Jim Donaldson #0623 in an ad on TV
along with two others he saw while travelling in the N.T and Victoria he
contacted me and told me about them. Once again I was lucky to obtain the
decal.
Ron Swattridge #1216 saw the Inlet Lager on tap at the Sussex Inlet R.S.L and
with a bit coaxing to the bar staff he was able to obtain it for me.
I am always grateful for any info that will help me boost my collection. My
thanks to the three members who thought of me.
News from Great Britain
BrewDog, the largest independent brewery in
Scotland, is the first craft brewery in Great Britain
to offer one of its beers in cans.

Its Punk IPA is being sold in 330mL cans at £1.49

each (that’s a bit less than AUD2.50) or a six-
pack for £8.49. The brewery sells eight other
varieties of beer in bottles, also 330mL.

So British craft brewers may be starting to follow

the trend set by their US counterparts in moving
towards cans, as discussed in previous issues of
this newsletter (see last month's issue, for exam-
ple).

Many more beer cans from Great Britain are

featured in luscious full colour in the supplemental
section of this month’s newsletter, available only
to members who receive the on-line version. Why
not subscribe? It’s free to all ABCCA members.

What Good Is Beer? (6)

DIETICIAN: “Beer is food and drink combined.

Non-fattening dietically, it can easily be included in
reducing diets. Its appetising flavour certainly im-
proves the taste of a fine meal...makes good food
taste better.”
Man Displays Beer Can Collection in Eastford
From WSFB Eyewitness News
EASTFORD, Conn. , January 14, 2011-- Forget the song "99 Bottles Of Beer
On The Wall," one man in Eastford collects and proudly displays thousands of
cans of beer in his barn.
He said he has cans from all over the world, and a story to tell about each and
every one.
Pull any can from the collection that Pete Johnson keeps in his Eastford barn,
and he can tell you when, where and how it was made, and sometimes even
why, which is impressive when you consider his collection runs upwards of
20,000 cans.
Johnson said, as a child he collected stamps, coins and baseball cards and
eventually gravitated to beer cans about 40 years ago and has been at it ever
since.
Chances are, anything anyone wants to know about a beer can, Johnson can
tell you about it.
Johnson's collection includes the old and new and said he has no idea what his
collection might be worth.
"I've never spent more than $100 on a can," Johnson said. "Almost all of them
I've gotten for a lot less than that."

A Blonde Joke
A young man is having a drink in a very dark bar. He leans over to the big
woman next to him and says, "Hey, wanna hear a funny blonde joke?"
Gruffly she replies, "Well before you tell that joke, you should know something:
I'm blonde, six foot tall, 88 kgs and a professional body builder. The blonde
woman sitting next to me is six feet two, weighs 78 kgs and she's in the army.
Next to her is a six foot five inch woman who weighs 85kgs who is a
professional kickboxer. She's also blonde. Now do you still want to tell that
joke?”
The young man thinks about it for a second. "I don't think so," he says. "Not if
I'm going to have to explain it three times!”
