Hunt started out as a musician-

turned-vintner and now, when
most people look to retirement,
Hunt enthusiastically promotes
his wines. “90 percent of wines
today are not balanced. I’m
willing to take the necessary time
and focus on the wines so they
are perfect.”
The Hunt Cellars tasting room
is all hardwood floors with a
beautiful wood bar. It’s small,
intimate and comfortable, not
stuffy. There are picnic facilities
on their grounds and a 1,200-
square-foot back deck. They sell
condiment items too, cookbooks
and clothing. One of the unique
things about this tasting room is
the sheer number of bottles open
at any given time. “Where else
can you taste over two dozen
wines that have scored 90 to 95
points and enjoy these high
scoring cult wines?” he asks.
During winemaker dinners held
at the tasting room, David will
play the white piano that sits near
the front door.
A visit to the tasting room is a
necessity for anyone interested in
wine, if only to experience wines
that make you hunger for more.
Hunt Cellars wines, including
their Cabernet Sauvignons, Syrah

in some of the finest restaurants
in the U.S. and include Ritz

16th Annual Atascadero Lakeside Wine Festival scheduled from 4 to
8 p.m., Saturday, June 26th, at Atascadero Lake Park. The festival is a
benefit for the Charles Paddock Zoo and other local community
projects.
“Over the last 15 years the festival has supported the Charles
Paddock Zoo with more than $100,000 in contributions,” said Wine
Festival committee chairperson Barbie Butz. “This year will be the
biggest and best festival ever and a tremendous experience for wine-
lovers.”
Butz confirmed the Atascadero Lakeside Wine Festival will once
again feature some of the best wines from 80 San Luis Obispo County
wineries, as well as the music of the popular Mighty Croon Dogs and
food offerings from a variety of local chefs. Each attendee also receives

The Atascadero Lakeside Wine Festival is an annual celebration of
the viticulture in the San Luis Obispo County Wine Region. Wine and
food lovers are treated to a “Norman Rockwell” atmosphere during a
casual evening of revelry unparalleled anywhere in San Luis Obispo
County.
“The venue just can’t be beat,” said Butz. “The rolling, lawn-covered
slopes of the park provide many sites for relaxing, sipping and
savoring what the Atascadero Lakeside Wine Festival has to offer. The
towering oak trees provide a bounty of shade and the picturesque lake
is the perfect backdrop for this event.”
Visitors will sample wine and food and have the opportunity to
speak with winemakers and chefs. Shuttle service will be available
throughout the festival. Shuttle route information can be found at
www.AtascaderoWineFestival.com. It’s the perfect time and place to
experience first-hand the diversity and world-class quality of the
region’s artisanal products.

Foley Estates Vineyards & Winery
The 460-acre Rancho Santa Rosa estate vineyard features 230 acres
of vines that climb from 500 to 1,000 feet above sea level. The soils
are maritime-based and the weather is consistently cool thanks to
moist ocean breezes that sweep the property daily. The vineyard is
farmed with the painstaking care and attention usually associated with
much smaller vineyards. In fact, the Rancho Santa Rosa Vineyard was
originally conceived as individual micro-vineyards delineated into 59
unique blocks based upon soil type, exposure, elevation, grade, root-
stock and clone. Rancho Santa Rosa produces remarkably rich and
silky wines.
The Rancho Santa Rosa property also serves as home to Foley’s
3,500-square-foot tasting room and event center. Located next to the
12,000-square-foot winery building, the Hospitality Center affords
visitors spectacular vistas of neighboring mountain ranges, coastal
oaks and contoured hillside vines. Built in 2005, the tasting room is
the ideal venue to taste the award-winning Foley wines. The tasting
room is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and is located at 6121 East
Highway 246, Lompoc. For more information, call (805) 737-6222 or

Welcome to
LOMPOC WINE GHETTO
Loring Wine Company
The brother and sister team of Brian and Kimberly Loring make a
wide array of Pinots and Chardonnays from some of the top vine-
yards in California. Their list of sources read like a who’s who of
California Pinot vineyards. Brian and Kimberly share all the duties
at the winery – owner, winemaker, truck driver, janitor, etc. – and
are able to produce about 7,000 cases a year.
Sinece Brian and Kimberly prefer bigger, bolder, fruit-forward
wines, that’s what they produce. The wines are designed to be ready
to drink right away – no need to lay them down for years before
Brian and Kimberly Loring consuming. The wines will age gracefully for up to seven or eight
years, but hopefully you’ll try them young to experience the bright,
vibrant fruit. That’s what sets the wines apart. Loring Pinots will

Sort This Out Cellars
by Michael Cervin
Nostalgia has always been an important part of the American experience.
Sort This Out Cellars is a small producer of California wines that has given
nostalgia a new venue. Established in 2007, Sort This Out Cellars produces
wines from grapes grown throughout California’s wine country using
diverse varietals and appellations which they feel represent the best of what
California's wine industry can produce. “I have relieved myself of the
restrictions associated with owning vineyards or producing wines from a
singular viticultural area,” says owner Michael Cobb. This means he can
search the state for the best grapes to crush, or in some cases the best juice
from another winery to purchase, and then finish it into his own wine.
“Tired of the traditional wine country narrative, I
wanted to move beyond the iconic family winery, or
estate grown grape paradigms that have dominated
the California wine landscape, and instead make “throw all the traditional corporate structure out with the bath
wines that looked more like the people who drank water,” as he puts it. This doesn't mean however that he came
