Set Induction Tr shows ss a business card and discusses with students the 1 IF L MI
circumstances where it is used.
Lesson Tr explains to ss the lesson of the day – introducing oneself through a 1 IF L MI
Development name card.
Tr shows ss wordcards:
Tr reads out the words and gets ss to observe pronunciation and spelling 1 IF L/S LHTL
and gets students to read the words themselves.

Tr shows ss a sample of a business card drawn on a mah-jong paper.


Tr goes through the content displayed on the card with the class. 1 IF L/S
Tr gets students to match the types of information from the business card 1 IF R TS
with the 10 words from the wordcards.
Tr goes through the answer with the class and gets other ss to double 1 IF L/S
check their friends’ work.
Post Activity Tr takes down the matched answers and the sample business card.

Reflection It was more challenging than expected to get some of the students to participate.
Some students were able to recall definition of all words well, while most lack attention.
Students enjoyed the matching activity (respond well to teaching tangible teaching material).
Most students find it hard to pronounce the silent ‘t’ at the end of words. (may be due to their primary
education where language of instruction was Chinese language).

Reflection Only a handful of students are able to read properly. Most have pronunciation problems and 70% of
the ss do not understand the meaning of the words read. Tr had to explain new vocabularies in 3
English, and translate some into Malay language and Chinese language to facilitate understanding.

Pronounce words with ‘I’ and ‘ee’ correctly

differentiate the /i/ and /I:/ sound.
Teacher writes out a list of words with the /i/ sound and an equal number
of words with the /I;/ sound.
Ex: ‘dip’ & ‘deep’.

follow.
After one round of practice, teacher gets students to read the words by 1 IF S LHTL
themselves.

Reflection Students were able to understand the rules I differentiating the pronunciation of /I/ and /I:/. It was
difficult to get students to think of words with the sounds themselves. This might be due to their small
range of vocabulary knowledge. Teacher should encourage students to read more to improve their
English.
