SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
To use PowerControls on your computer, you need the following hardware and softw
are:
* Windows 2000 Server, Windows 2000 Professional, Windows XP Professional, Windo
ws XP Home, or Windows 2003 Server
* Microsoft Outlook 2000 or later
Note: The Operating Systems listed above and Microsoft Outlook are required to h
ave the latest service packs installed.
* Pentium-class processor
* 256 MB RAM
* 50 MB of free hard disk space for the installation of PowerControls. More disk
space will be needed for processing log files when opening an EDB file.
* Monitor with 800 x 600 or higher screen resolution
Note: PowerControls supports Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5, 2000, or 2003. Power
Controls is designed to run from a Windows workstation and uses native Microsoft
Messaging APIs (MAPI) to communicate to the Exchange Server, ensuring reliable
and consistent operation of your server. Outlook must be installed and configure
d on the workstation to connect to an Exchange server for MAPI to initialize pro
perly. PowerControls is not designed to run from an Exchange Server.
INSTALLING POWERCONTROLS
1. Install and configure Microsoft Outlook as described in Configuring Microsoft
Outlook.
2. Turn off any disk utility or antivirus program running in the background.
3. Insert the PowerControls CD-ROM into your CD-ROM drive.
4. The installation program will automatically start. If it does not, click Run
on the Start menu, and type D:\autorun.exe or D:\bin\setup.exe, where D is the d
rive letter of your CD-ROM drive. Click OK.
5. Follow the on-screen instructions.
KNOWN ISSUES
* PST files do not support HTML message bodies. That is, HTML message bodies are
converted to text or text with HTML tags. Suggestion: Copy the message to an Ex
change 2000 server, which will generate the HTML message body as it appeared in
the original message. (Copying to an Exchange 5.5 server will not generate the c
orrect HTML message body).
* For Legato NetWorker 7.x backups created using Advanced File Backup, Ontrack r
ecommends using the ExtractWizard Advanced Method of extracting backed-up Exchan
ge Information Store files.
* For ARCserve 11.x multiplexed backup tapes, Ontrack recommends using the Extra
ctWizard Advanced Method of extracting backed-up Exchange Information Store file
s.
* If you have ever copied or moved a message using Outlook, and later restored t
hat same item with PowerControls, the message may be duplicated. This is because
the message ID numbers differ between PowerControls and the Exchange Server.
* Newly created mailboxes on the Exchange Server do not become visible within Po
werControls until someone has logged onto the mailboxes with Outlook, or at leas
t one message is delivered (or copied) to the mailbox. Until one of these two ev
ents occurs, there is no physical mailbox, only directory information.
* PowerControls does not check messages or attachments for viruses when restorin
g them from the database. If your server antivirus program has current signature
files, it should identify and protect against infected messages when the restor
ed messages are on the live server.
* The PowerControls ExtractWizard can support tape block sizes greater than 64 K
b as long as the SCSI HBA and its associated Windows drivers and settings suppor
t block transfers greater than 64 Kb.
* The PowerControls ExtractWizard requires that the Windows drivers be installed
and configured for the tape device.
* Due to the database nature of the PST file and the MAPI subsystem, PSTs opened
as source will be modified.
