Modal Verbs
We never use them on their own, but always with another 'main' verb. They are auxiliary verbs
which indicate attitudes of the speaker toward another verb.
Modal verbs don't take ‘s’ in the third person: She may like to go to cinema. ( not She mays)
After modal verbs, we use the infinitive without ‘to’: I must go home.
To make a modal verb negative, we use 'not' (or the contraction: 'n't'). e.g. She can't sing.
To make a question, we invert the modal verb and the subject. Can I help you?
The meaning of modal verbs can be difficult because they all have more than one meaning,
e.g. She can't swim. (she does not have the skill or ability).
You can't eat in here. (You are not allowed to)
