Q.How do I check the software version of my phone?

To check the Software Version of your phone, from the Home screen slide to the Settings tab > Menu > All Settings >
System > Device Information > Software Version.  Here you can check your OS Version, Rom Version and Radio
version.

Q.Does HD2 support auto screen rotation?


Yes, it does support auto screen rotation. You phone will automatically adjust it's orientation when you rotate the phone
when you are viewing the photos in Album tab or browsing websites.

Q.Do I need a stylus with this phone?


No, HTC HD2 does not require a stylus, but relies on a more intuitive touch screen technology, and has been optimized
for fingers.  The soft reset button on the back of the phone under the battery cover can still be used, but be careful no to
use an object that may puncture the thin plastic button when reseting.

Q.Where can I get software for my phone?


You can get software for your phone using Microsoft Marketplace which is preinstalled on your phone.

1. Tap START > Marketplace


2. Sign in with your Windows Live account to access the library of free and paid applications.

Note: Use of this feature will require a data connection and a valid account with Windows Live.   You can shop securely
and download programs straight to your phone or via your PC.  Availability of applications in the Marketplace are
determined by Microsoft and may differ region to region.

Q.What's new about this phone?


Speaking of this phone's software, this is the first HTC Windows Mobile phone to fully embody HTC Sense™.  This
gives you a more personalized Home screen, Footprints and HTC Peep™ for Twittering from the slider.  You can
conference call, and we have included new features in the phone settings and even more integration of social networks
into the People application.

Hardware has changed significantly as well.  First and foremost this phone has a 1GHz Snapdragon™ processor, and a
Capacitive touchscreen with pinch-to-zoom enabled on several preinstalled programs.  We've also got a 5 Megapixel
autofocus CMOS color with dual LED flash, allowing you to take high definition pictures night or day.  Finally, to appeal
to your sense of style, we've made this one of the thinnest phones on the market, and integrated a micro-USB
connector into the phone.

Q.What is the Navipanel?


The Navipanel is the secondary user interface the HD2 uses when it is connected to the the Car Holder Kit.

Navipanel offers you a convenient, one-touch interface to Footprints, the Phone dialer, and the GPS navigation
software when you are using the in-car holder with your phone. When you put your phone in the holder, NaviPanel
automatically opens and lets you use these applications.

Note: You must have an HTC Touch HD2 customized car holder in order to enjoy this feature.  It can be purchased at a
number of locations, please check Where to buy on our website to find a retailer near you.  Please do not operate the
Navipanel when driving for safety's sake.

Q.How can I improve an unstable Wi-Fi connection?


To improve an unstable Wi-Fi connection you can try increasing the Wi-Fi signal strength by trying the following steps.

1. From the Home Screen, Slide to the Settings tab > Wireless controls> Wi-Fi > Advanced.  
2. You can increase the antenna strength by tapping Power Mode > and sliding the Power Save Mode slider towards
Best Performance.

Note: Use of this feature will require more power and reduce battery life.

Q. Where should I save my music files so that they can be detected by the Music tab in HTC Sense™?
Your phone searches for all supported music files from the following locations:
Phone:                 My Music (including all subfolders)
                              My Documents (including all subfolders)
Storage Card:     Storage Card (including all subfolders)

Q.What is HTC Sense™?


HTC Sense™ is an intuitive, seamless experience built upon three fundamental principles - make it mine, stay close,
and discover the unexpected.  It can be thought of as the User interface that HTC has designed to work on top of the
platforms that we develop on. 

Q.How do I disable my 3G/GPRS Data Connection?


Follow the steps below to ensure that your phone will never connect to a GPRS/3G Data Connection.

1. Go to Start > Settings > Menu > All Settings > Connections > Connections
2. Tap Add a new modem connection > then under Select a modem, select Celluar Line (GPRS) > Name the
Connection "Offline" >Tap Next. 
3. In the Access point name text box input "Offline" and tap Next. 
4. On the next page tap Finish.  
5. On the second Connections Menu, tap Manage existing connections and select "Offline" then click OK.

Re-enable the data connection if you want to connect to the internet via 3g/Edge.

1. From the home screen, slide to the Settings tab, Wireless Controls > Data Connection. 
2. Select your Country and Operator
3. Tap OK. 
4. On the subsequent screen, tap Yes. 

The phone will automatically configure itself with the appropriate settings.

Note: When disabling the connection in this way, your phone may report errors when trying to connect to "Offline."  The
error is caused by the phone being unable to connect to a data source due to the settings, and is normal. 

Q.Can I change the order of those icons displayed in the Start menu?
Yes, you can change the order of the icons in Start menu.

1. Tap Start
2. In the next menu, tap and hold the icon you want to move. 
3. Then in the subsequent popup menu you can choose Move to Top to move the selected icon to the top of the start
menu.

Q.Where is the task manager that used to be on the top right corner of the screen?
This handy feature of this phone has been moved.  Slide to the Settings tab > Others.  You can select Task Manager
from this screen, and on the subsequent screen, you can choose to end a program or select close all programs to end
everything.

Q.Where can I get a copy of the user manual?


You can download the user manual from the Support page of the HTC website.  On your browser, go to our website,
click on Support in the top menu, then, in the pull down menu or click Select by Image and select your phone.  Next
click on User Guides and select the language of the manual you wish to download.

Q.How do I uninstall applications from my phone?


From the Home screen slide to the Settings tab > Application > Remove programs to uninstall the software you've
installed.

Q.How can I personalize my ringtone?


You can use your personal music files to be your ringtone.

1. Copy the music files to the /My Documents/My Ringtones folder on the phone. 
2. Then from the Home screen slide to the Settings tabs > Sound & display > Ringtone 
3. Select the file you copied over, and then tap Done. 

If you want to use only a portion of  a song as a ringtone, you can use the MP3 Trimmer.

1. Tap Start > Multimedia > MP3 Trimmer


2. Then tap Open > and select the song you want to use.
3. Press Play to preview the song; tap the arrows next to Start Point to control where you want to start the clip, and tap
the arrows next to End Point to mark where you want the clip to stop.

Or you can drag the sliders under the time elapsed to adjust the start and the end points. 

4. Once you've determined the clip you want to use, tap Menu and select either Set as default ringtone, Save to
ringtone folder, or Save As.. 
      a. Selecting Set as default ringtone will make the clip your ringtone, but not copy the file to the phone memory.
      b. Selecting Save to Ringtone folder will save the clip to the ringtone folder, and you will be able to set the
ringtone like any other (See above)
      c. Selecting Save as... will save the clip as an MP3 on your SD Card in the /Music folder, and if you choose to
select this as a ringtone, please follow the steps outlined above.

Q.How do I improve the speed of file transfers between my PC and my phone?


To speed up file transfers, please connect your phone to your computer using a Mirco USB cable.  On your phone in
the popup menu, select Disk Drive mode for faster file transfer. 

In order to change the default option when plugging your phone into the computer, from the Home Screen slide to the
Settings tab > Other > USB to PC.  From this screen select ActiveSync, Disk Drive, or Internet Sharing.  If you wish
to see the popup when you plug in your phone place a check next to Ask me first about USB connection type when I
connect the device to the PC.

Q.What are the little crosses I can see when looking at the screen at an angle?
The little crosses help the phone accurately track your touch, and make the phone more responsive overall.  Rest
assured that the phone was built this way by design and this will not affect the functionality of the phone in any way.

Q.How do I check memory usage and end programs that are running in the background?
Check your memory usage to manage your battery life and maintain your phone's top performance.

1. Tap Start > Settings > Other > Task Manager. From this screen you can check memory usage.
2. To close programs that are running in the background, select the application that you want to close and tap End
Task, or to close all programs, tap Menu >  End all tasks

Q.Can I switch off the threaded SMS and use the normal layout?
Yes, you have two options for how you want to view your SMS Messages. You can easily toggle between the two. 
To change to traditional mode:  Tap Start > HTC Messages > Menu > Settings >  Traditional mode
To change to conversation mode: Tap Start > HTC Messages > Menu > Settings >  Conversation mode

Q.How do I stop my phone from auto-rotating when I insert my USB with micro-to-mini adapter attached?
To stop the auto-rotation, slide to the Settings Tab > Other> Car Kit Mode> uncheck Auto launch NaviPanel in car
kit mode.  This feature is meant to be paired with HTC HD2's customized Car Kit, which will be available early next
year.
