OUR PURPOSE

To deliver an open and accessible justice system that protects and supports a fair and stable society
based on the rule of law.

YOUR OPPORTUNITY
• To provide grants of financial assistance and professional services for victims of crime in Queensland
to assist them to recover from their injuries, within the Department of Justice and Attorney-General’s
Victims Assistance Unit (VAU).

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES


• Make timely, fair and well reasoned decisions on less complex applications for financial assistance
under the Victims of Crime Assistance Act 2009 as directed and in accordance with business rules.
• Prepare grants of assistance for approval in accordance with business rules.
• Monitor systems, procedures and protocols to ensure effective coordination of applications for
assistance and that they are managed in a timely and efficient manner and in accordance with
departmental policies.
• Liaise as required with the Director, Service Coordination on issues relating to referral and
coordination of services for VAU applicants.
• Liaise with VAU clients and their representatives as required in relation to applications for assistance.
• Maintain accurate records within the VAU database on applications for assistance.

YOUR EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

You will be assessed on the basis of relevant capability and capacity for the following:
• Demonstrated ability to make timely, fair decisions with minimal supervision according to law in a
high volume jurisdiction in which clients are not legally represented.
• Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written, including the ability to
communicate sensitively and effectively with people from diverse cultural and social backgrounds.
• Ability to acquire sound knowledge of the Victims of Crime Assistance Act 2009.
• Demonstrated investigative, analytical and problem solving skills.
• Ability to plan and manage conflicting priorities.
