Memorial Bricks and Bench Dedication:
On March 27 after the 12:00 Noon Mass. We
will dedicate the memorial bricks and two
benches at the Ten Commandment Plaza.
Memorial Brick Available for
Spring Installation
If you have not bought a memorial brick
last year we are making it available
again for purchase this spring. It will be
installed later this spring. This is an ex-
cellent way of honoring your family, re-
membering a love one, commemorating
a special event and contributing to the
well being of our parish. Proceeds from
the sale of the brick have been used to
make repairs and pay for capital ex-
penses in the campus. Application

If you’ve ever had the desire to help

with the Life Movement, this is a
wonderful opportunity. There are 3
ways to be a part of 40 Days for Life.
Take part in all three or just one:

1. Prayer – Unite your voice with others around the world for 40 days of fervent prayer. Commit to praying daily
for the unborn, women in crisis pregnancies, abortionists, all who work in the abortion industry, and for an end to
abortion. You can also sign up to receive daily devotionals and updates at www.40daysforlife.com.
2. Fasting – Fasting is a form of physical prayer. During these 40 days, make a commitment to fast from a certain
food, TV, alcohol, or anything else as a sign of your support for the unborn. This will give your Lenten sacrifice
new intention and purpose.
3. Peaceful Vigil – Spend an hour with fellow pro-lifers outside an abortion facility praying. This spring the vigil
will be changing locations weekly to reach six different suburban abortion clinics that are all owned and op-
erated by the same local abortionist. At the Aanchor Abortion Clinic in Glen Ellyn we will be there praying
from March 30 through April 5. Check the bulletin weekly to find out how to take part in the vigil.

A Twinkle
Fr. John continues to be a blessing to the Diocese
of Joliet as a priest nearing 50 years of service.
Father celebrates funerals, weddings, baptisms,
weekday and Sunday masses not only for us, but
for other parishes in the diocese as well. In addi-
tion, he serves as a chaplain at Good Samaritan
Hospital.
In June, I begin my twenty third year as a priest. I
have a ways to go to follow the footsteps of a great
example of Fr. Guiney. I am grateful to serve with,
and to be a brother priest to a loyal friend, Fr. John
Guiney. He inspires so many priests and lay faith-
ful by his energy and dedication.
May the twinkle in his eye continue to bring us
closer to our Lord.

Father John Guiney
Father John’s magic is evi-
dent the moment you meet him.
He is aglow with a zest for life,
an appreciation of all his many
blessings, and a love of people.
Although he is now technically
retired as a Roman Catholic priest, he continues to
serve his flock – especially for weddings and fu-
nerals. Young and old alike want him with them at
life’s significant moments. “But I’m a free
lancer,” Father John joked, “and I can pick and
choose!”
Father John’s sermons and homilies are known
for their humor and relevancy. He applies the
message of the Bible to the joys and problems
people face today in a straightforward and often
amusing and memorable way.
His Irish wit accompanies him when he visits
older patients in nursing homes and hospitals as he
does often. “I wish we did more for our older peo-
ple. So many sit at home with nothing to do and
are isolated,” he lamented. “Our youth get atten-
tion, but they are busy with school. Older people
sometimes get lost in the shuffle. I guess I’m more
aware of the needs of older people as I age my-
self!”
Born in Ireland and raised in Boston, Father
John spent more than twenty years serving people
in Africa where he rebuilt a leper colony. He calls
that the most rewarding experience of his life.
“The lepers had an amazing sense of community
and of hope. Only in affluent societies do we get
discouraged,” Father John said. “When you have a
lot, discouragement comes easily. Even during the
worst of times, the lepers kept going.” When
asked how he chose the priesthood, Father John
thought a moment. “There was this guy in Boston.
He was never alone – even when he ate. He had
wonderful people around him.” Then he paused.
“It wasn’t divine inspiration.
I liked his example . . . and he was a priest.” And
the twinkle in Father John Guiney’s eyes reflects
his life’s story – a love of people and a love of
serving them.

Each month, our Religious Education Families
experience one of the Corporal Works of Mercy
by working together and practicing service. This
month, our sixth grade families will “Welcome
the Stranger”. You may see some of our young
people “shadowing” our Ministers of Hospitality
and Greeters. They may bake some cookies or
another treat for a new family on the block or get
to know a new friend from school. Other ways
the families can participate will vary depending
on what each family is determined to do.

Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults
On Sunday, March 13, Am-
ber and Jim Kinzel, and Syd-
ney Rudman were chosen as
the “Elect” of God. They went
to the St. Raymond’s Cathe-
dral where the Bishop an-
nounced that they were now
the “Elect”. This ritual is
where the Bishop prays over
and blesses the catechu-
mens along with their Godparents. They have now en-
tered into the final preparations for the initiation into the
Catholic Church at the Easter Vigil. Please continue to
pray for them on their journey.
Next Sunday, we begin the First Scrutiny of Lent. A
Scrutiny is meant to uncover, and then heal all that is
defective in a person. Today’s Scripture reading is the
Woman at the Well. Jesus asks the woman, “What are
you thirsting for?” The same question can be asked of
us, “What are we thirsting for?” Jesus has, or better yet,
is the answer to the question. If we ask Him for a drink,
He would give us everlasting life, and we would never
thirst again! Today during this celebration, ask Christ
for the everlasting life, or ask to be as clean as you
once were at your Baptism.
Please continue to pray not only for our catechumens,
but the candidates that will come into full communion at
the Easter Vigil, and the 8th Grade candidates on May
6, 2011.
