Conclusion 2nd to last paragraph Yes! I think showing

you still should show the important. Until this

leisure. while since I’ve read a
book, just for fun. But
I’m going to do my best
to continue to be a
reader. It does have
important. You have to
read MATH word
problems!

But I also agree, this

idea of reading aloud or
shared readings could
take a lot of time and
would have to be
planned precisely to
make sure that the book
can teach a variety of
things. Not just reading
comprehension skills.

Summary: I am still not totally comfortable on how I would use this in my

classroom. I did like Mr. Sage’s idea of using Math poems. I feel as if those
poems, which are shorter and teach different math concepts, would be
valuable to my classroom. I think teaching the students on how to properly
read word problems are a good reading strategy. To be honest, reading
word problems out loud or in a shared reading style would be helpful to
those that are struggling. Overall I do like the idea of reading out loud. But
when you only have 40 minutes to settle a class, get their attention, teach a
lesson, help on homework, and get them read to move doesn’t always allow
a lot of time to read. Perhaps if I was in a middle school that had pods
(something we are learning about in EDUC 412) then I would have more time
to work with a variety of text and make it apart of my everyday math
routine. This idea will for sure be something to keep in the back of my mind.
Not for sure how much time and text there is to realistically use this method
on a regular basis.
