Paul Chambers

Настоящее имя Paul Laurence Dunbar Chambers.


Родился 22 апреля 1935г., в Pitsburgh, PA.
Умер 4 января 1969г., в New York.
Один из «топ» басистов (1955 – 1965), использующих смычок в со-
ло, как и Slam Stewart, который пел одновременно с игрой.
Chambers вырос в Детройте, где играл с местными джазменами. Пос-
ле гастролей с Paul Quinichete quintet, он едет в Нью Йорк. Играет с
J.J.Johnson –Kai Winding quintet и George Wallington.
В свои лучшие годы (1955 – 1963), будучи членом M.Davis quintet,
записывает фактически все «классические» альбомы Дэвиса.
После, ”Mr.P.C.” работает с Wynton Kelly trio (1963 – 66) и является
«свободным художником».
За короткий период, как аккомпаниатор и прекрасный солист, делает
много записей, включая таких музыкантов как Sonny Rollins, Coltrane,
C.Adderley, Donald Byrd, Bud Powell, Freddie Hubbard, а также записы-
вает несколько сольных альбомов.

На протяжении своей короткой жизни, LaFaro очень быстро стал
одним из самых передовых басистов, наряду с Ch.Mingus и Ch.Haden.
До поступления в колледж, играл на кларнете и теноре.Он был
участником Buddy Morrow’s band (1955 – 56), гастролировал с Chet
Baker (1956 -59), несколько лет работал с Ira Sullivan, Barney Kessel,
Cal Tjader, Benny Goodman.
В 1959 году, присоединяется к Bill Evans trio. Одновременно записы-
вается с Ornette Coleman (free jazz) и подрабатывает со Stan Getz.
Наиболее яркие записи с Bill Evans, особенно в Village Yanguard
1961г. На 25-ом году жизни Scott LaFaro трагически погиб в автомо-
бильной катострофе.

Не только один из лучших аккомпаниаторов, но и басист с неповто-
римым звуком и оригинальной техникой.
В10 лет начал играть на виолончели. После переезда родителей в
Детройт, из-за расовых стереотипов, перешёл на бас. Здесь он учится
и играет в Eastman School’s оркестре до1959г.
Переезжает в N.Y. и играет с Chico Hamilton’s quintet, поступает в
Manhattan School of Music. Закончив школу в1961г., остаётся в N.Y.,
играет с Eric Dolphy и Don Elias, делает первые записи. Гастролирует
и записывается с Bobby Timmons’ trio, Th.Monk, C.Adderley, Art
Farmer.(1963) и становится членом знаменитого Miles Davis band.
Работает с ним до1968г., и, по разным источникам, делает от 500 до
1000 записей, вошедших в историю джаза.

Niels Henning Orsted Pedersen

Niels – Henning Orsted Pedersen родился 27 мая 1946г.,Osted, Denmark.

N.H.O.P.был востребован ещё будучи подростком. Он был одним из

В17 лет, отказывается от предложения Count Basie стать членом его
оркестра и является постоянным басистом Club Mantmartre и Danish
Radio Orchestra.
Он играет практически со всеми американскими джазменами, проез-
жающими через Скандинавию в 60-х годах:
Sonny Rollins, Bill Evans, Roland Kirk, Dexter Gordon, Bud Powel, Ben
Webster.
В70-х играет в дуэте с Kenny Draw и с середины 70-х, его начинает
приглашать O.Peterson в своё знаменитое трио.

John Patitucci

Родился 22 декабря 1959 г. в Бруклине, Нью Йорк.


Один из лучших басистов 90-х, играющий одинаково хорошо как
на контрабасе, так и на бас гитаре. Начал играть в 11 лет. В 1978
переезжает на юг, близ Лос-Анжелеса. Играет с Gap Mangione (79),
одновременно учится в колледже.
На протяжении 1982 – 85 работает в Лос-Анжелесе с Tom
Scott, Robben Ford, Stan Getz, Larry Carlton, Dave Grusin, Ernie
Watts, Freddie Hubbard и др. Помимо этого работает студийным
музыкантом.
С 1985 до начала 90 – х, играет с C.Corea в составе Elektric и
Akoustic band. Постоянно записывает сольные проекты.

Dave Holland

Родился в Волверхамптоне, Англия,1октября 1946 г. С13-ти лет


играет на бас гитаре в небольших клубах. Перебравшись в Лондон,
учится у первого басиста Лондонского Филармонического Оркестра
James Merritt. С его помощью, в1964 г., получает полную стипендию
в GuildHall School. К1966 г.,Holland играет с наиболее известными
музыкантами Лондона, включая J.McLaughlin. Немного позже – с Joe
Henderson. После предложения M.Davis, переезжает в Нью Йорк и
пару лет гастролирует с ним. Затем играет в группах C.Corea, Stan
Getz, T.Monk.В начале 90-х становится членом H.Hancock трио и
получает Grammy за запись альбома “So Near, So Far”. В 1994 г.
организовывает собственный квартет и одновременно учавствует в
проектах H.Hancock “The New Standard” и M.Brecker“Tales from the
Hudson”, получивших также Grammy.
В1997 г. Holland создаёт квинтет, альбомы которого становятся
номинантами Grammy в 98, 99 и в 2001 году.

Родился 21 октября 1953г., Omaha, NE.


Многосторонний музыкант, играющий в различных стилях. Во время
учёбы в North Texas State University играет в группе с Lyle Mays.
Затем, в1977г., играет с Woody Herman’s Orchestra, Bill Evans (1978 –
1980), Stan Getz (1981 – 1982), John Abercrombie (1983), Bass Desires
project (1985).
Последняя группа, куда входили J.Scofield и B.Frisell, записала два
альбома на ECM.
В1989г. Johnson делает серию дуэтов с различными звёздами для
cтудии EmArex.
С 1993г., он возглавляет группу Rignt Bain Patrol. Это трио с
гитаристом Ben Monder и перкуссионистом Arto Tuncboyaci. Они
записывают “Sound of Summer Runnig”(1997), ”It Trees Could Fly”
(1999).
M.Johnson также записывает альбомы с различными музыкантами:

Brian Bromberg

Родился 5 декабря 1960г., Tuscon, Arizona.


Вырос в музыкалбной семье, где отец и брат играли на барабанах.
Bromberg также стал изучать барабаны (c13 лет), затем – виолончель,
поступив в University of Arizona. Играя в школьном оркестре, пере-

Становится одним из лучших басистов 90-х годов. Разнообразие его
музыкальных интересов простираются от C.Corea до Pat Metheny, от
Kathleen Battle до D’Angelo, от Diana Krall до Bruce Homsby, от
Quincy Jones до Sting.
В1989г. поступил в Juilliard School. Играет с Bobby Watson’s band, на-
чинает работать в клубах Нью Йорка с такими музыкантами, как
John Hicks, Kenny Barron, Gary Bartz. Через год бросает школу и, что-
бы набраться опыта, едет в тур с Roy Hargrove’s band. С августа 1990
и до1993г. работает с Freddie Hubbard’s band. В промежутках играет
с Benny Green trio.
В1991г.Ray Brown приглашает его в проект “Super Bass”, вместе с
J.Clayton. Записывает сольные альбомы: Sci-Fi (2000), Vertical
Vision (2003).
