COMPLETELY STRIPPED
What would be the most fitting appellation for art that focuses on the sensual and
sexual aspects of male life? Well, if these artworks are created by men who love
men, if they are dedicated to men who love men, then “gay art” surely is the term
which brings it to the point best. Standing for its own this term would be a crude
and improper generalization, of course, but when we think about it as the thread
of the stunning 600‐pages coffee table book COMPLETELY STRIPPED, these two words
make pretty obvious, in how many different, creative and always unique ways a
simple term like “gay art” can be filled with life.
COMPLETELY STRIPPED unites the successful anthologies Stripped (2006) and Stripped
Uncensored (2009) in one impressive volume. There are truly no borders for
fantasy! Most of the pictures are simply bursting with lust and virility—everything
is allowed to be bigger and more muscular and juicy. But you’ll also find images of
great intimacy as well as abstract drawings and photo‐realistic paintings.
COMPLETELY STRIPPED easily ranges from frisky to dirty, from simply beauty to
provocative.
Speaking of more than just Tom of Finland when speaking about gay illustrations
today is not least the credit of Bruno Gmuender Publishing, who has published the
works of artists like Mioki, Patrick Fillion, Michael Broderick, BEAU and Anthony
Gonzales internationally ever since 2001. Stripped Uncensored offers exciting new
works from the above as well as lots of works from rather unknown, upcoming
talents like Hokane or Eddie Lopez. A marvelous compilation of gay art—for adepts
as well as for people who are just curious. COMPLETELY STRIPPED is a mirror of the
gay zeitgeist, convincing with every page. Completely.
