Activities-June 2010 to February 2011

9th & 10th July, 2010:

Faculty Development Programme on“Teaching of Mathematics at School and College
level” Resource Persons Dr.P.T.Ramachandran(Calicut University), Dr.S.P.Anjali
Devi(Bharathiar University), Dr.Arumuganathan(PSG Tech). School and College
teachers in and around Coimbatore participated. CMS was the first to conduct such a
programme under Bharathiar University.

12th August, 2010:

Association Inauguration: Dr.K.T Varkey,Principal, CMS College of Science and
Commerce, inaugurated the Mathematics Association activities for the academic year
2010-2011. Sri S. Selvaraj, Manager – Product Development & Engg.(Pumps), Pricol
Ltd,Plant -3, delivered a special Lecture on Mathematics in designing and functioning of
the company’s product.

30th August to 2nd September, 2010:

personality Development Program for PG students, by Dr.K.T Varkey, Principal; Dr.
Saravanan, P.Ed Director; Dr. Sreekumar, Head, Department of Foreign Languages;
Mr. AmarNath, Placement Director.

23rd September 2010:

Guest Lecture on GraphTheory and its Application in Computer Science & Electronics
By Dr.Somasundaram, Head, Department of Mathematics, Amrita Deemed University,
Coimbatore. Students of Computer Science and Electronics participated.

25th September – October 5, 2010:

Department students went for an Industrial Visit to Delhi and Agra with two staff
members.

October and November, 2010: Examinations

28th December, 2010:

Inter School Competitions and Inter Collegiate Competitions. (Quiz, Math sketching,
paper presentation, Miming, Puzzle solving). PSGR Krishnammal College for Women
and Vidya Vikas Matric Hr. Sec School won the over all Championships.

January, 2011: I Internal Examinations

12th February, 2011:

Inter Disciplinary Competitions (Quiz, Poem recitation, Mock press)
Achievements:

1. M.Phil and PG students presented paper in various national seminars.

2. They attended various National seminars and symposiums.
3. Santhosh Kumar of II M.Sc Mathematics won I prize for paper presentation at
Nandha Arts and Science College.
4. Revathy and Gowthami of II M.Sc Mathematics won I prize for Quiz at SST
college of Arts and Science.
5. Sudheesh, J.Jenifer and Abhinaya of I M.Sc Mathematics won II prize for Quiz at
PKR arts and Science College.
6. Tamil Selvi of II B.Sc Mathematica(CA) won I prize for Essay writing on Road
Safety, in English, conducted by Government of Tamil Nadu.
7. Dhivyalakshmi of II M.Sc Mathematics won II prize in Yuva Bharath Essay
competition 2010
8. Saranya of II B.Sc Mathematics won I Place in Carroms
9. Abhijith of I B.Sc Mathematics won III place in Chess
10. Jwellen of I M.Sc Mathematics won I place in Table Tennis.
11. Jwellen of I M.Sc Mathematics won I place in Badminton.
12. Subha and teem of the department won I prize for Flower Carpet competition in
our college.
13. Saranya and teem of the department won the II prize for Rangoli Competition in
our College.

14. Dhakshina Moorthi of I M.Sc Maths won Runner’s trophy for Volley Ball.
