Student Involvement
CHILD PROTECTION PROJECT
Sema is a Swahili word that literally means
speaking. We chose the terminology “SEMA”
to focus on providing life skills rooted in social
and financial education to children and young
persons. This concept revolves around the
belief that children are powerful agents of social
and economic change. Empowering children/
young persons to make this change and break
the cycle of poverty means making them aware
of what their rights and responsibilities are, and
equipping them with the tools to put those rights
into practice.
Sema Tanzania is a Child Protection Project
within C-Sema Group, a dully registered Social
Enterprise in Tanzania.
WHO WE ARE?
The organisation was formed by a team of right-
minded individuals who have been teachers for
more than a Decade in different region in Tan-
zania. Through their experience, they have
worked with communities especially the sus-
ceptible groups of children, adolescents and
youths located in urban and peri-urban loca-
tions in Dar-es-salaam and neighbouring Re-
gions in Tanzania. It was until 2010 that most of
their initial aims, visions and goals broaden to
include Child Protection Project, basically spe-
cializing in 3 different Programmes;
Frontline Child Protection, Student involvement
and Online Mentoring, Inspiring & Counselling.
1. Frontline Child Protection
Programme:
To ensure that:
“Children are protected through well-functioning child
protection mechanisms which include families, com-
munities, and government taking responsibility to
provide adequate care and protection to children”.
Status:
Baseline Studies Underway (April, 2011), Working
with ICS (2011-2015), other stakeholders and
the Government.

(Outreach Initiative)
(a) Student's Clubs
Offers a platform where young Tanzanians
would share and participate in open discus-
sion, write articles, contribute cartoons and
directly get connected to the World of Me-
dia.
(b) Cultural Festivals (Orientation)
The Dar es salaam Cultural Festivals is an
annual co-curricular activity run by Sema
Tanzania. The goal of the festival is to tap
and nurture creative talent among Tanza-
nian youths. To spear head and support
the use of arts and culture in creating em-
ployments, conflict resolution, education,
peace and friendship

It is a monthly educative publication cover-
ing educational & Child Protection Affairs in
Dar-es-Salaam and Tanzania in general.
