Flange Mount Assembly
Q1115

DESCRIPTION
The Q1115 Universal Air Shield/Flange Mount Assembly
is a dual purpose device. As an air shield, it provides a
constant flow of clean air across the outside surface of
the detector window, thereby reducing contamination
buildup and extending maintenance intervals.

The flange mount on the Q1115 allows the detector to

be mounted directly to a duct or wall. It is compatible
with standard Det-Tronics UV or IR detectors and is rec-
ommended for use in applications where high levels of
airborne contaminants are present in the environment.

The assembly is available in aluminum or stainless steel

and attaches directly to the detector housing without the
use of tools. It is also easily removed when performing
detector maintenance. See Figure 1 for dimensions.
Connection to the compressed air supply is provided

NOTE
Instrument grade air is required. Filtration should
be used to ensure that the air is dry and oil free.
The presence of oil in the air supply must be avoid-
ed, since it can accumulate on the detector viewing
window and reduce the sensitivity of the detector. A2043

In addition, oil can clog the sintered metal ring and

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
Air Shield without Duct Mount
1. Remove power from the detection system.
2. Remove the lens cap assembly (detector housing
with lens cap attached) from the detector base (turn
counterclockwise). See Figure 2.
3. Remove the clamp ring from the air shield assembly.
4. For an IR detector, place the spacer ring on the
detector housing. For a UV detector, the spacer
ring is not used and should be discarded.
5. Place the retainer ring on the detector housing. Be
sure that the side with the groove faces the lens
cap. (The spacer ring, if used, fits inside the
groove.)
6. Re-install the lens cap assembly on the detector
base.
7. Clean the detector viewing window and o i ring
using the procedure described in the “Maintenance”
section.
8. Place the air shield on the detector lens cap.
9. Place the clamp ring over the air shield and lock the
assembly securely in place.
10. Attach the air supply to the air shield.

11. Apply power to the detection system and turn on the
air supply.
Duct Mount Installation
NOTE
The use of flexible conduit is required to allow easy
removal of the detector for maintenance purposes.
1. Mount the retainer ring and spacer ring (IR detec-
tors only) on the detector housing following steps 1
to 6 in the “Air Shield without Duct Mount” section
above.
2. Using Figure 3 as a template, cut out the mounting
holes in the duct or wall.
3. Mount the air shield to the duct or wall. A rubber or
neoprene gasket (not provided) can be placed
between the air shield and mounting surface if
needed.
4. Clean the detector viewing window and o i ring
using the procedure described in the “Maintenance”
section.
5. Insert the detector lens cap into the air shield.
6. Place the clamp ring over the air shield and lock the
assembly securely in place.
7. Attach the air supply to the air shield.
8. Apply power to the detection system and turn on the
air supply.

MAINTENANCE
Air Shield
No routine maintenance is required. However, as con-
taminants accumulate on the sintered metal diffuser ring
over time, the effectiveness of the air shield will be
reduced. To replace the ring, remove the gasket and
unscrew the retainer from the inside of the air shield.
Replace the diffuser ring and reassemble the air shield.
Detector Window and oi Ring
If the detector indicates an oi fault, the detector window
and oi ring must be cleaned. The following procedure
is recommended for cleaning the detector viewing win-
dow and oi ring:
1. Secure output loads (or place the controller in the
TEST or BYPASS mode).
2. Remove the air shield assembly from the detector.
3. Remove the oi ring from the detector.

4. Thoroughly clean the detector viewing window with
a clean cloth and Det-Tronics window cleaner.
NOTE
If paint overspray or similar contaminants are pre-
sent in the environment, the use of solvents may
be required to clean the detector viewing window.
After cleaning the viewing window with a solvent,
always use Det-Tronics window cleaner and a
clean cloth to remove any solvent or other residue.
5. Clean the oi ring. If the inner reflective surface can-
not be restored, the ring must be replaced. It is
essential for the ring to be highly reflective to ensure
proper operation of the oi system.
6. Re-install the oi ring. Be sure that the opening in
the oi ring:
— is not aligned with the test lamp(s) on the sensor
module
— is positioned downward to prevent buildup of
dirt or moisture.
7. Re-install the air shield.
8. Return the system to normal operation.
