PASTORAL COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES

The Parish Council meeting was held on Tuesday March 7th, 2011 at 17:30. The following were
the council members and parishioners that attended this meeting:

Father Damian opened the meeting with a prayer. The following topics were discussed:

1. Parish Council President SCPO Mike Rivera welcomed the attendees and handed out the meeting
agenda.
2. Fr. Damian stated that he has visited the Religious Education classrooms on Sundays. He said that the
children asked him great questions. He will continue visiting the classrooms.
3. RCIA was represented by Deacon Michael Marchek. Deacon Marchek stated that RCIA are still at a
temporary location. There are two people seeking sacrament at this moment.
4. Bible Study is in the last part of Psalms. Tom Dean informed that the group will start the Book of
Hebrews after completing the Book of Psalms. The Bible Study group has 10-12 people.
5. Youth Ministry Coordinator is vacant and on hold until for now, until the Parish hires a new Parish
Life Coordinator.
6. RE Coordinator position is vacant. Fr. Damian has not received yet any information is this vacancy.
7. Confirmation 2011. Dede O’brien took in charge of the Confirmation class and High School group.
She stated that there are at least 10 students waiting for confirmation this year. Dede announced that
the Confirmation candidates will have a retreat on March 19 from 1-3:30pm at our Chapel.
- Fr. Damian announced that Confirmation ceremony will be celebrated on Wednesday 27 April,
2011 at 6:30pm. The Bishop is planning to arrive on April 27th at 1:30pm.
8. First Communion 2011. Fr. Damian announced that the date for First Communion has been changed
to April 17, Palm Sunday. First Reconciliation service is scheduled for April 16th, 10-12pm
9. Mother’s Day. The Parish will hand flowers to all mothers on Mother’s Day. Sherry is going to look
for the prices.
10. MCCW.- Dede stated that everything is ready for Fat Tuesday/ Shrove Tuesday. Father will bless the
dinner. MCCW are planning to arrived to building 13 at 5pm. Knights of Columbus will be there at
5:15pm. SCPO Rivera confirmed that a few students of his 8th grade class will help in this event.
- April 14th is their monthly meeting. Fr. Ericcson is visiting.

- Dede stated that St. Vincent’s charity was very successful and that they collected 10 boxes of
donated clothes. Dede announced a new charity for March and April. MCCW will be collecting
non-perishable items to donate to Catholic Services.
- MCCW received an award from the Fisher House at Ft. Gordon for their support.
- Dede stated that MCCW will ask for baby items during May to support the Augusta Pregnancy
Center of Augusta.
11. April’s Designated Offering scheduled for March 26-27 is being changed to St. Vincent due to that
Gideon’s mission does not agree with our Catholic ethics. Fr. Damian is going to claim the change to
make it official.
12. Financial Report by Tina Raby. (A monthly report was provided to the Parish Council. A copy of this
report was added to these minutes for the record).Tina suggested to ask Sgt.Williams to create a box
to include all the submitted Purchase Orders (PO), to avoid future issues with submissions.
13. Knights of Columbus represented by Loren Simpson. KofC are supporting Shrove Tuesday. Loren
stated that they will have their Third Degree after Confirmation. They are sponsoring a Basketball
Tournament, and Nikoie is in charge of this activity.
14. Lectors. There is a training for lectors and Eucharistic Ministers, new and current, on 23 March.
15. Youth Mass. Fr. Damian announced that once a month at 10am mass the youth of the parish are
invited to participate as readers, ushers and present gifts. Fr. Damian stated that youth choir is on hold
until further notice. Dede said that she is going to ask the High School class if they are interested in
participating. The first Youth Mass is scheduled to be on April 3rd.
16. Music Ministry represented by Joseph Cruz. Joseph announced that he will be out of town next
weekend, but he is going to contact Julia to see if she can direct the music during his absence.
17. Stations of the Cross 2011. Lola Rivera announced that there are no Ministries to coordinate “soup
and bread” for Stations of the Cross on April 8 and 15. The Parish Council agreed in supporting these
days. Lola will include an announcement in the weekly bulletin.
18. Flowers Ministry represented by Sherry Wodicka. Sherry is meeting with Chaplain Locke tomorrow
to determine the available budget for flowers. Sherry stated that she and Fran Simpson will go to
check the prices of flowers tomorrow as well.
19. Tina Raby stated that the FY12 Budget is due on June, and that Chaplain Lock is getting the database.
20. SCPO Rivera thanked the Parish Council for being so proactive within the Parish.
21. Fr. Damian closed the meeting with a prayer and blessing at 7:08pm.
22. The next Council meeting will be held at 17:30 hours on possible Tuesday the 12th of April, 2011.
