NYC Charter Schools: 2010-11 Enrollment Trends (Final Estimates)

Of the 125* New York City charter schools enrolling students for 2010-11, 106 (85%) have
reported application and seat totals. The New York City Charter School Center estimates that
these will translate into citywide totals of approximately 54,000 applicants for 11,850 seats. This
estimate is based on simple extrapolations—expanding to cover unreported schools, and
retracting to discount for overlapping applications from the same students. The final total
demand is slightly revised from the earlier estimate of 55,000 applicants for 11,700 seats (based
on 78% reporting).

Approximately one charter school seat is available for every five applicants.
