Feelings and emotions are a huge part of our day-to-day life. You can
be a moody person or quite the opposite — a very balanced person.
Overall, everyone has feelings, but it is a personal matter to express or
to hide them.
During the day, lots of things can affect our mood. For example, the
weather. When the sun shines, we feel more cheerful, and during long
dark winters, we are depressed, because of the lack of sunlight.
22
We feel different every day. Parents are thrilled when their children
get into the best university, but anxious when they do not get home
until midnight. A wife is delighted when her husband spends time with
her. A team is content when their boss praises them for all the hard
work they have done. Scientists are astonished when they make new
discoveries. Consumers are fed up with rising gas prices. When
someone gets lost in the woods, they are frightened. A girl is annoyed
by some arrogant guy in a bar, and she begins to feel irritated by his
jokes.

Travel by Sea
64
When I was in the USA, I loved to travel
with Greyhound. It is the largest intercity
bus service across the country. You can
buy cheap tickets for any destination
online without going to the ticket office. I
used to buy one-way tickets and travel
from one city to another.
65
I love traveling by train. There is a
special atmosphere, especially if you
go by night train. It is a slow and
meditative way of traveling for those
who are not in a hurry. No matter if you
are in a compartment or a third-class
car, you feel cozy. The best part is the
people; you start up a conversation
with your fellow passengers and soon
get to know them. If you are a little
bored, you can visit the dining-car.
After a nice meal, you get into your
upper berth and begin to absorb the
beauty of the changing scenes that fly
past you.

They went to the travel agency and bought a package

and uncrowded beaches, which was a good time to visit
for those traveling abroad for the first time. And that
was true — their holidays went well. While Mrs. Smith
was lying on the beach and sunbathing, Mr. Smith tried
scuba diving and snorkeling. He even managed to get
a sunburn while he was windsurfing. In the evening,
they went for long walks along the beach, collecting

food in the restaurants, and Mrs. Smith even wrote
down a few recipes to cook at home.

Hi everyone,
I’ve been in New York for over a week now,
and I’m having a great time. In the first few
days, I did quite a lot of sightseeing. I went
on a free walking tour and managed to visit
all the main attractions, such as Times
Square, the Statue of Liberty, the Empire
State Building, Central Park, Wall Street, the
9/11 Memorial, and Fifth Avenue. I wanted to
visit Brooklyn Bridge too, but unfortunately,
it was under construction.
Hugs,
Martin

I am an avid reader. As an editor, I always use
reference books such as dictionaries, encyclopedias,
manuals, catalogs. I read a lot for pleasure, too; I am
especially fond of poetry. It might sound strange, but at
home, all my books are arranged in alphabetical order.
I have loads of novels, crime fiction, sci-fi, and fantasy
but there is non-fiction as well: I read quite a lot of
biographies.
Personally, I prefer
reading a paperback or
hardback, I’m not into
e-books. Also, I am
always on the lookout
for new authors and
books to read. The last
book that I have read
was Normal People by
Sally Rooney. I was
browsing in a bookshop
and saw a cover which
attracted my attention.
I looked through the
first chapter — it
seemed captivating. I
bought it and read
from cover to cover in
one night. That book is
a real page-turner.

Open; football and ice hockey teams take part in league
competitions, where they play against different teams.

Fitness is one of the best ways to keep fit, lose weight,
and develop strength. Membership of a fitness center
can provide you with all kinds of training. You can run
on a treadmill, do abs, or pump iron. Or you can attend
a group training such as aerobics, Pilates, and yoga.
You can work out on your own, or you can pay for a
personal trainer. It is the one who gives advice about
the exercises, makes a training plan, and helps people
get into shape or build muscles.
Many people think they need to go to the gym 6 days per
week, dutifully alternating weight training with cardio
and boot camps to get that perfect body. But this is
wrong and exhausting, you can easily overtrain.
Many trainers advise working out 3 times per week, like
Monday — Wednesday — Friday. That is enough to keep
your body toned.
If you are a beginner, start with a basic 5 minutes of
warm-up, like stretching your legs and rolling your
head, then go to the treadmill for a 10–15 minute run.
After that do three circuits of this basic workout:
• 10 squats
• 10 push-ups
• 10 sit-ups.
After that do a 10-minute cooldown, which will safely
return your blood pressure and heart rate to pre-
exercise levels.

I don’t have many friends on Facebook,
but the few that I do have are my dearest
and nearest. I used to have plenty, but,
about a month ago, I unfriended almost
200 people; and now, I don’t accept new
friend requests. I don’t like to be spied
on by others, that’s why I usually write
only me posts.
122
My sister is addicted to social media. She
spends many hours online checking
notifications and scrolling through her
Instagram feed. She takes many selfies
and posts 3–5 photos per day: what she
eats, where she goes, how she looks. And
if she doesn’t get a lot of likes or get
negative comments from haters, she gets
upset.
123
Two years ago, I launched a personal
channel on YouTube, and now I have
almost one million subscribers. I shoot
tutorials and unboxing videos; some of
my videos have gone viral. My advice for
those who want to start on YouTube —
stick to your theme, invest in a good
vlogging camera and microphone, learn
how to work with light, and be patient.

You can then study for a degree. If you complete the

My brother has very little success in exams. He suffers
from anxiety, and the time limit doesn’t help to reduce
it. He’s so nervous he can’t follow the instructions
given by the examiner. However, my brother still
managed to scrape through all his exams at the
college, and our whole family celebrated it the past
weekend.
Cole did not put much effort into his exam preparation.
He decided to cheat in his exams instead. So he wrote
some crib sheets and intended to use them during the
exam, but the examiner was not so happy with Cole’s
cheating. He caught him copying from the sheets and
Cole was disqualified. Now he has to retake the
examination all by himself.

I’ve been employed by my present company for two
years now. I came here straight after finishing
university. I was pleased because I was earning a living
at last. The company has an excellent training program,
and so I knew I would learn my job correctly. I
sometimes have to work long hours — I didn’t get home
till after nine o’clock yesterday. But I can work from
home sometimes too — I have a computer in my spare
room. It’s good to get away from the office now and
again, and I find I can get a lot done when there is no
one else around.
Now that I’ve been here two years, I’m hoping I’ll be
promoted soon — that should also mean I’ll get a pay
rise, and it’d be nice to have a bit more money. In the
future, I’d like to set up my own business, but I’ll stay
here for now.

A: Good morning, Mr. B! So, what’s on the agenda
today?
B: Good morning, Mr. A, thank you for your time. I’ve
arranged this meeting to clarify a few issues about our
new book release.
A: Okay, I’m ready to consider your proposals.
B: Let’s start with the design ideas. I’m not confident
about the colors and material you suggest using. Are
you sure that this work is feasible to do in our tough
conditions?
A: I have established business connections with some
designers who can guarantee the best quality on
profitable terms. And I assure you they will help you to
get a great benefit.
B: However, I can’t accept the new cost of work. It
doesn’t suit us.
A: I understand your concern. But it’s a reasonable
price for the concept we offer. From my point of view,
your book needs our creative design to become a
bestseller.
B: Unfortunately, we can’t afford it and have to decline
your offer.
A: I see… Perhaps, I have a solution for you! This time I
can make a concession and reduce the costs. You can
pay the rest part after the release.
B: That’s a great compromise! I think we can
reschedule our meeting to discuss the details with our
financial directors.
A: Deal! I hope we will cover our misunderstanding next
time.
B: It was nice meeting you, Mr. A. I’m sure we will work
it all out.

So let’s move on to the first slide and take a look at the
main notions about business. I strongly believe that
every person should have their own business or
investments. Some may say it’s not necessary because
we can just work and earn money. But I suppose people
need to multiply it and get astounding results. So I
decided to review possibilities and countries where you
can start your business.
Well, it’s all for now, we’ve run out of time. Thank you
for inviting me to your workshop! Tell me if you want to
comment on something.

with someone than actually call them. I’ve got all the
messaging apps you can imagine: WhatsApp,
Facebook, iMessage, Snapchat, and Instagram. I hate
being left on read but if I am, I never ever double text.
Do you remember the times when we were younger
and every SMS had a limited number of characters?
Look where we are now — now we all have friends who
text one word at a time, so that your phone bursts up
with notifications or relatives, who send you the
cringiest GIFs to congratulate you on every existing
holiday. People can even break up by text. What a
