Gilad Shalit at Passover and to raise awareness about his plight include local day schools, middle schools, and high schools, as well as numerous schools and organizations across the county and around the world. Participating schools are distributing cards encouraging students to remember Shalit as the fifth son, or the son who awaits redemption. The cards contain a space that, upon Shalit’s release, could be filled in with a date. Student representatives at the various schools have been explaining the project and handing out the cards. Some schools are showing a music video by the Elias sisters. Participating high schools in the greater metropolitan area as of Wednesday include: Torah Academy of Bergen County, Teaneck Maayanot Yeshiva for Girls, Teaneck The Frisch School, Paramus Hebrew Academy of the Five Towns and Rockaway, Lawrence, N.Y. Kushner Yeshiva High School, Livingston SAR Academy, Riverdale, Bronx Yeshiva University High School for Boys, Manhattan Stella K. Abraham High School for Girls, Hewlett Bay Park, Nassau County, N.Y. North Shore Hebrew Academy High School, Great Neck, N.Y. Participating local middle and lower schools include: Solomon Schechter Day School of Bergen County, New Milford Yavneh Academy, Paramus The Moriah School, Englewood Yeshivat Noam, Paramus Participating high schools elsewhere in the country include: Yeshiva University High Schools of Los Angeles, Los Angeles, Calif. The Weinbaum Yeshiva High School, Boca Raton, Fla. Margolin Hebrew Academy, Memphis, Tenn. Greenfield Hebrew Academy and Yeshiva High School, both in Atlanta, Ga. Robert M. Beren Academy, Houston, Texas Fuchs Mizrachi High School, Cleveland, Ohio Maimonides Jewish Day School, Boston, Mass. Ida Crown Jewish Academy, Chicago, Ill. Kohelet Yeshiva High School, Merion Station, Pa. The following organizations have signed on: Manhattan Jewish Experience The Hillels at Columbia, Brown, Rutgers, and New York universities; Yeshiva University’s Center for the Jewish Future The European Jewish Congress The Board of Deputies of British Jews In addition, Rep. Shelley Berkley (D-Nev.) ordered 1,000 cards to distribute to her constituents, and Naomi Catering of Jerusalem is sending the cards in its e-mail blog to approximately 13,000 homes around the world. Also, cards are being distributed by high school students at hotel Pesach services in Florida, Arizona, Puerto Rico, Israel, and Italy. Compiled by Sheryl Elias
