QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Social Work, Sociology, Psychology or closely related field
Master’s level in Human Behavior, Psychology, Behavior Modification, Psychology preferred
Minimum 3 years experience in behavior intervention and working with children in a school
setting
PRIMARY FUNCTIONS:
The Behavior Intervention Specialist assists the administration and staff in the schools to identify
children whose behaviors put them at risk for moderate to severe impairment in social, emotional,
or learning skills. The Behavior Intervention Specialist consults with parents, teaching, and
resource staff on a variety of behavioral management issues and provides on-going behavioral
intervention in the classroom setting. Behavior Intervention Specialists serve as part of a
behavioral team composed of parent, teaching, and other resources staff to develop and
implement specific behavior intervention plans for identified children. Behavior Intervention
Specialist consults with teaching staff on group and individual behavior management issues and
provides on-going behavioral intervention on a regular basis with assigned children in the
classroom. Behavior Intervention Specialist consults with parents and teaching staff on behavior
intervention strategies. Behavior Intervention Specialist maintains confidential records, case notes,
observation reports; and prepares statistical reports.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Work directly with the district and the schools to insure that purposeful, quality behavior
intervention services are implemented at each school
The behavior interventionist will blend with the demographic nature of the school and can
assist with meeting the needs of those students
The behavior interventionists who are hired will provide services in each school and meet
expectations for implementation of quality behavior intervention services
Formal training in behavior intervention & management and applied behavior analysis
preferred
Must have knowledge, skills, training to work in the school setting with students who have
non-compliant, social-emotional and disruptive behavior concerns
