M. Tech Major Project ( One year research project May 2006-April 2007)
Objective:”Synthesis and Characterization of Transition metal doped
(cobalt) SnO2 and TiO2 thin films and comparison of their physical
properties.”
Project Guide: Prof. S. C. Kashyap
Aim: The aim of the project is to search materials for the Spintronics
application.
Abstract of Project work: We have used a simple and cost effective
technique named spray pyrolysis to deposit Cobalt doped TiO2 and SnO2
films on glass and quartz substrate.
We have deposited TiO2 and SnO2 films with different Cobalt concentration
(5%, 10 % and 15%) with an ambition plan of obtaining room temperature
ferromagnetism (RTFM) in thin films of both the oxides and to study their
physical (microstructure, magnetic, optical and electronic ) behavior. The X-
ray diffraction results show that the films are polycrystalline without any
detectable secondary phase. Both types of films are transparent with nearly ~
70% of transmittance observed in the visible range. The incorporation of
Cobalt in SnO2 and TiO2 is manifested by the change in the value of bandgap.
The TiO2 films are insulating in the nature while SnO2 are semiconducting.
Both the films show very weak VSM signal for ferromagnetism.
