Network Connection

1. Connecting the camera directly to your laptop

• You will need a network power adapter (NPA), a power adaptor (SNT), 2 patch cables and your laptop.
• The devices should be connected as described in the user manual part I, chapter 3.4.2 (manuals could be found
on the seminar CD).

2. Factory Reset
Why? – Because you will want to clear out the previous user settings. If you do not reset, you may have difficulties
completing the exercises with someone else’s settings still in the camera.
The procedure for completing the factory reset can be found in the user manual part I in chapter 3.6

Important: Factory reset with the button will not reset the passwords of the camera!
Important: House rule – please use the factory settings for user name and password while you are in the training
• Username: admin
• Password: meinsm

3. Establishing first contact to the camera

• Open your preferred web browser and connect to the camera by typing the factory default IP address in the
address field of your browser.
• Instruction on how to do this can be found in the user manual part I, chapter 3.4.4 and … hurrah, a picture!
• Tips:
9 Check your network cabling
9 Check the network configuration of the laptop by opening a DOS window and typing “ipconfig” in the
command line
9 Check the connectivity between the laptop and camera by opening a DOS window and typing “ping
<camera ip>” in the command line.
9 Select the Quick Installation in the Admin Menu of the camera (Note: After a successful Factory Reset
the Quick Install will come up automatically when the Admin Menu button is selected).
9 Do not forget to reboot the camera when you are finished with the Quick Installation.

4. Connecting the Camera to a Switch and Gateway

• Connect your laptop to the switch and the camera to the switch using the Network Power Adaptor so that the
camera is powered via the patch cable.
Instructions on how to do this can be found in the user manual part I, chapter 3.3.2
• Once this connection is completed you should be able to reach the camera with the web browser again. If you are
unable to reach the camera, please check the cabling.

• Task:

• Make contact to other cameras, your neighbour’s camera on the next table, for example.
• Complete the Quick Installation in the Admin Menu to input the Gateway and DNS Server information
now, if it was not input already in exercise 3.
• Tips:
9 Check your cables to the switch first when you have problems.

9 In Quick Installation check your network settings.

9 You camera and laptop should have access to the internet now.
