Definition of Terms:

Antibodies
Any of a large number of proteins of high molecular weight that are produced normally is
specialized B cells after stimulation by an antigen and not specifically against the antigen in an
immune response.

Breastfeeding
Refers to the manner of feeding an infant using solely the mother’s breastmilk.

Formula Feeding
Infant formulas are designed to contain the approximate nutrient composition of human
milk. Protein in the formula is typically supplied as whey, soy or cow’s milk base.

Infant
Defined as a human child at the youngest stage of life, specifically before they can walk
and generally before the age of one.

Involution
The process whereby the reproductive organs return to their non-pregnant state

Mass Media
A medium of communication (as the newspapers, radio, motion pictures, television) that
is designed to reach the mass of people and tends to set standards, ideals, and arms of the masses

Milk Code
Also known as E.D 51 (Executive Order 51). This law only regulates advertising and
promotional activities and materials and furthermore limits such regulation to breast milk
substitutes intended for infants or babies 0-12 months old and do not impose an absolute ban on
advertising.

Mixed Feeding
Combination of breastfeeding and formula feeding.
Preference
The power or opportunity of choosing.

Policy
A specific decision; a set of decisions designed to carry out such a chosen course of
action.

Revision
Re-examination or careful reading over for correction or improvement.
Recommendations

After knowing the effects of the planned revision of milk code to the type of
feeding preference of pregnant women, the proponents come up with the following
recommendations:

The Mothers: During pregnancy it is highly recommended to submit themselves


in prenatal check-up to be equipped with health teachings provided by the health care providers.
Furthermore, it could prepare them to the upcoming delivery and thus, the care of the newborn
will be given much attention. Such health teachings include the emphasis of breastfeeding policy
of the newborn up to the infant will reach the age of six months as recommended also by the
DOH.

The Community Health Workers: Working hand-in-had in the community are


the community health workers who are given the responsibility of providing informative health
teachings that can enable the recipient of their care knowledgeable with necessary informations.
As much as collaboration of care is concerned it is deemed essential that community health
workers will give attention to the maternal and child care, therefore supplementation of sufficient
knowledge is suggested to be given by them.

The Student Nurses: During the community health nursing, student nurses are
exposed to different communities and enable to take part in one of the nursing responsibilities,
students are advised to provide health teachings to the pregnant women they encounter in the
area with breastfeeding importance. Even in simple way of imparting knowledge to the
significant other who is pregnant to utilize breastfeeding rather than other ways if not
contraindicated during the first six months of infant’s age.

The Future Researchers: Data has been presented and conclusions were made
and found out that the feeding preferences of pregnant women depend on the family’s socio-
economic status, thus, the proponents endorse to the future researchers the use of respondents
having a higher class in the society whether there would be changes in the results of the study.
