Cancun is already under water!
• Sea level rise will be up to several meters over this century,
following latest studies.1
• Global warming is already 0.8°C above pre-industrial level.
• When the Greenland Ice Sheet melts completely, sea level
rises 6-8 meters over 300 years. Scientific opinion is split
over whether it is already “tipped over” today, i.e. complete
disintegration is inevitable, or not yet.
• Current “radical” climate change targets are limiting
warming to 1.5°C - about double the current warming 2
• Further “tipping points” like the West Antarctic Ice Sheet,
permafrost soils, methane clathrates on the ocean floor and
dieback of the Amazon Rainforest will heat up the climate
even more, if triggered.
• Doubling the current warming – or even more – will surely
drown Cancun.
It is not too late to act. We need to:
• Leave fossil fuels in the ground.
• Replace all fossils with renewable energy.
• Make a zero fossil emissions plan for our city, region,
country3 – and personally for our own lives.
Let's end the fossil age!

and has become the Global Day of Action to End Extraction.
