The project report details configuration, structural specifications and design features of a typical
satellite antenna reflector. An antenna reflector is exposed to various loading conditions including dynamic
and static loads due to inertia forces, static loads during deployment and variations in temperature due to
radiations. The results of free vibration analysis for both stowed and deployed conditions, Static load
analysis due to inertial loads, deployment shock load analysis and thermal distortion analysis of the
reflector for a uniform temperature load is discussed.

1. Free vibration analysis, required condition for
deployed and stowed condition is that
frequency must be greater than 2Hz and
40Hz after doing analysis we meet the
requirement.

2. Static load analysis, theoretical displacement

required is 2.5 mm, analysis results is
greater than 3.2mm for normal and lateral
loads.

3. Deployment shock analysis displacement

required n than e t 3.5mm, analysis results is
6.9mm.

4. Thermal distortion analysis displacement

distortion should not be greater than 0.25mm
for both -1800 c and 1200c hence we meet
the requirement

The following conclusions were arrived at w.r.t the

scope of the project.

` `

` º Study of the system, application & its
working, found that the selected mechanism
can perform as per the system requirement.
º Study of the 2D drawing, identified the
various parts & units.
º Collected the detailed properties of the
material that can be used for design.
º Generated the 3D part modeling &
assembled it for visualizing the system & to
calculate the mass properties etc.
º In Stress analysis we conclude that sufficient
factor of safety is ensued with respect to
strength of material selected.
º Stress analysis is carried out using IDEA-S
software and compared with theoretical
calculation.
