Synopsis

Project Title: Employee Performance Management

Introduction

A Study on Employee Performance Management with reference to FL Technologies (P) Ltd,


Coimbatore will be conducted to evaluate the performance of employees and to help them reach
reasonable goals and thus to ensure that the company performs better.

Performance Management is a strategic and integrated approach increasing the effectiveness of


organizations by improving the performance of the people who work in them and by developing the
capabilities of teams and individual contributors (Armstrong and Baron, 1998). Using this process it may
be possible to get all employees to reconcile personal goals with organizational goals and increase
productivity and profitability of an organization.

The organizations carry out its mission through the individual and collective contributions of its
employees. To do their best, staff members need to know that those contributions will be recognized and
acknowledged. Praise or criticism on the job is helpful, but a written report and an evaluation which
adheres to a clear set of criteria can be much more helpful.

The Performance Appraisal is part of a larger system known as the performance management system.
This system is the approach to the management of people using performance, planned goals and
objectives, measurement, feedback and recognition to motivate people to realize their maximum potential.

Objectives of the study


Primary objectives
• To study the existing methods used in FL Technologies (P) Ltd, for employee performance
management.
Secondary Objectives
• To find out how well the employees are performing the job.
• To provide information about the performance ranks to make decisions regarding salary fixation,
confirmation, promotion and demotion.
• To help the superiors to have a proper understanding about their subordinates.

Scope of the Study

The scope of this study will be in adding value to the existing HR system in FL Technologies (P)
Ltd, and to gain excellence in managing the changes in it by

• Identifying the training need for the employees.

• Making career development plan for the employees.

• Using the process for recruitment, i.e., Performance based recruitment.

• Using the process for succession planning.

Research Methodology

Research in common parlance refers to a search for knowledge. We can also define research as a
scientific and systematic search for pertinent information on a specific topic. Research methodology is a
way to solve the research problem. It may be understood as a science of studying how research is done
scientifically.

Research Design
A research design is an arrangement of conditions for collection and analysis of data in a manner
that aims to combine relevance to the research purpose with economy in procedure. The type of research
design used in this study is Descriptive.

Population size

The total element of the universe from which sample is selected for the purpose of study is
known as population. The population of my study is the employees of FL Technologies (P) Ltd which is
around 20.
Sampling Design

A sample design is a definite plan for obtaining a sample from a given population. It refers to the
technique or procedures the researcher would adopt in selecting the items for the sample. As well it may
lay down the number of items to be included in the sample. Since the total number of employees in FL
Technologies (P) Ltd is around 20, this will be a census study so there is no requirement for sampling.

Data Collection

For this study the data is collected in two ways

Primary data

Questionnaire is the main tool for collection of the primary data. Questionnaire will be designed
in a systematic manner to collect the information from the respondents.

Secondary Data

The secondary data mainly consists of data and information collected from records, company
websites, journals, magazines and books.

Questionnaire

A questionnaire will be given to the respondents which consist of number of questions printed in
a definite order. The respondents will answer the questions on their own. Structured questionnaire will
be used for this study which will have definite, concrete and pre-determined questions. The questions will
be presented with exactly the same wording and in the same order to all the respondents.

Tools and Techniques

The tools and techniques that will be used in this study are

Correlation Analysis

Correlation analysis studies the joint variation of two or more variables for determining the
amount of correlation between two or more variables. In this study it is used to find out the relationship
between performance and hike in salary.
Percentage Analysis

This statistical tool is used to identify the percentage of respondent’s responses in order to
find out the percentage of employees satisfaction towards employee performance management.

Weighted Average Method

The weights stand for the relative importance of the different items. This tool is used to find out the
respondent’s acceptance for the statement related to performance appraisal.

Limitations of the study

• Since the study is conducted for one particular company it cannot be generalized.

• The chances of prejudice will be greater among the respondents.

• Some employees may not be having enough time to answer the question so they may rush there
by giving false or hasty answer.

Conclusion
People differ in their abilities and their aptitudes. There is always some difference between the
quality and quantity of the same work on the same job being done by two different people. Therefore,
employee performance management is necessary to understand each employee’s abilities, competencies
and relative merit and worth for the organization.
