FOREWORD

SCOPE.
This pocket guide is designed for field use, and covers
basic tasks necessary to use the DAGR in the Basic
operating mode only. The user is provided essential tasks
in abbreviated format along with related graphics where
applicable. For more detailed information (including
TO/TM references throughout manual), the user should
refer to the DAGR Operation and Maintenance Technical
Manual. Help text can be accessed when shown on the
display.

Questions concerning technical content should be directed

to WR-ALC/LSAGS.

GPS OPERATION.
The NAVSTAR Global Positioning System (GPS) is a
space-based navigation and timing system made up of
multiple satellites, a ground control system, and any
number of navigation sets. The DAGR collects and
processes satellite signals to provide position, velocity,
and time (PVT) information, along with position reporting
and navigation capabilities.

v
TO 31R4-2PSN13-8-1

SAFETY SUMMARY.

• If abused, lithium batteries can explode causing

severe injury. Be sure to store batteries in original
packaging until ready to use and observe polarity
during installation. Reverse polarity can cause
damage to the battery and receiver.
• To prevent electrical shock, never open the ex-
ternal 110 V AC power cable adapter and never
come in contact with its AC plug during opera-
tion.
• DAGR displays a warning when powered on af-
ter previously using the Fire Support page or after
nonvolatile memory is cleared, stating the present
position displayed is NOT the target position of
the Fire Support page.

• Do not mix new batteries with old batteries. Do

not mix battery types. Do not reverse battery po-
larity. Use only fresh/new batteries. This ensures
proper battery life and proper unit operation.

vi
TO 31R4-2PSN13-8-1

SAFETY SUMMARY (CONT).

• Ensure a good memory battery is installed be-

fore removing the primary battery pack to ensure
all settings in memory are retained. A good mem-
ory battery is indicated by checking the memory
battery date on the battery page, or if the battery is
low, a Low Memory Battery message will show
on the display.
• Failure to observe correct polarity when in-
stalling the external DC power cable may result
in damage to the DAGR. If using an external DC
power source, ensure positive (red) lead of the
external DC power cable is connected to positive
lead of external power source. The DAGR is
protected against accidental reverse connection
of external power.
• Current position is necessary before accurate
navigation of waypoints and routes can be accom-
plished.
• A high level of position error may place a mis-
sion at risk. Verify the FOM level is sufficient
to accomplish the mission. Refer to Present Posi-
tion or NAV Displays pages for the current FOM.

vii
TO 31R4-2PSN13-8-1

SAFETY SUMMARY (CONT).

• Both the Zeroize function and Data Clear Op-

tions function destroy mission critical data, and
DAGR operation can become seriously impaired
for a particular mission without this data.
• When position data fields blink between black
and gray text, the DAGR is not tracking satellites
or has not yet acquired present position. Field
data may be inaccurate when the DAGR does not
have a position fix. Be sure the DAGR has an
open view of the sky to acquire the present posi-
tion. If the position data fields continue to blink,
perform the manual initialization procedure.
• Accidental jamming may occur when operating
the DAGR near a source of high power electronic
emissions. Move away from these sources and
verify operation.
• To enable DAGR operation during spoofing, the
receiver must be loaded with current crypto keys.

RECEIVER SETUP

3.1 MANUAL INITIALIZATION.

When data fields blink between black and gray

text, the DAGR is not tracking satellites or ac-
quired current position. Field data may be inac-
curate when the DAGR does not have a position
fix.
Refer to TO/TM paragraph 5.4.2. If the DAGR has been
moved between two different geographical locations and
is not performing correctly, the DAGR may need to be
initialized according to the DAGRs current location. The
following procedure describes how to initially set up the
DAGR Present Position page fields and edit field content
when:
• DAGR is having difficulty obtaining a position fix.
• Datum is mismatched with navigation waypoints.
• Datum does not match the geographical map used.
a. Power the DAGR on.

CHAPTER 4
ACQUIRE CURRENT POSITION

4.1 ACQUIRE CURRENT POSITION.

Refer to TO/TM paragraph 5.4.1.3. The DAGR obtains
current position by simply turning the DAGR on with an
open view of the sky. While acquiring satellites, DAGR
displays the SV Sky View page. After satellites are
acquired, DAGR automatically transitions to the Present
Position page with current position coordinates shown.
An indication of when the DAGR has obtained current
position is provided by:
• Position data fields of the Present Position page remain
solid black text and do not blink.
• On the SV Sky View page, solid black horizontal bars
indicate satellites being tracked and data is collected;
and Navigating shows at the top of display.
