Union Budget 2011-2012

(An amalgamation of sound economics and political wisdom)

1. This budget is placed basically at the beginning of each year in the month of Feb. The budget is placed
by the finance minister Mr Pranab Mukherjee in the Lok sabha.
2. Direct tax exemption of Rs 2lakhs will be introduced in the year 2012-2013
3. The budget will lay stress on facilitating the continution of high growth which has been projected at 9
percent for 2011-12.
4. On food inflation however the finance minister announced new initiatives and investments to
increase the supply of specific food items such edible oil, vegetables, pulses and milk.
5. The lowering of surcharge on corporate tax from 7.5 to 5 % has boosted business community,
customs and excise duty. Concessions have brought some cheer to specific industry.
6. In the union budget2011-2012, the introduction of an integrated Goods and Service Tax (GST) is
thought to be a major move. It is expected to bring enough gains to the economy as a whole, but there
is some time left for it to become effective because all the states have to be persuaded to follow it.
7. The raising of exemption limit for personal income tax from 1,60,000 to 1,80,000 has made some
people happy though the exemption was supposed to be a bit more than that.
8. The budget has brought a big relief to the tax payer, as salaried tax payers with income below Rs
5lakhs who do not have other sources of income and whose incomes are subject to Tax Deduction
at Source (TDS) will be excluded from tax returns. Therefore where there is no other source of income,
filling of return is duplication of information.

New Educational Methodology for rural Development

According to a report released on feb 13, 2011 the centre with a view to ensureing proper use of its Rs
86,533 crore annual rural spending has evolved a new educational and training methodology for rural
development.The ultimate objective of this effort is to improve the livelihoods of the rural folksunder
the centereal authorith
All the 30 lakhs panchayat members....45 lakh government functionaries…. of the self help
group,and 40 lakhs bharat nirman volunteers will be trained under the new structure…..it will be
the responsibility of the authority to develop the academic and knowledgable generation
authority…..and establish different schools covering different aspects of the rural development….
