Commitment Sunday is June 12. You may be saying, ―We just had commitment Sunday!‖ This is the time
when we will make the transition in our commitment program so that our commitments will coincide with the
church’s programming year. The commitments you make on June 12 will run from September 2011 through
August 2012. The theme of this year’s commitment program, ―Living Out Your Faith,‖ is based on James 1:22 -
―But don't just listen to God's word. You must do what it says. Otherwise you are only fooling yourselves.‖ It's not
good enough to just read the Bible or go to church on Sunday; God calls us to put our faith into action. How are
you living out your faith? We have many opportunities to help others grow through Christ’s teaching, connect with
Christ in a Christian community, and serve the needs of others! On Sunday, June 5, ministry representatives will
be available in Fellowship Hall to answer your questions before making your commitment.
June 12 is also Confirmation Sunday. Over the past few months, Pastors Kimes and LaBar and youth director
Scott Kuhnle have led the confirmands in their faith development. In addition to their weekly meetings, these
future church leaders also participated in various service projects, learned their spiritual gifts, and explored the
traditions of the United Methodist Church and other faiths. They also met with their mentors for fellowship and
prayer. On Sunday, June 12, these confirmands will lead worship and share how God has called them into
membership in Christ’s church through their prayers, presence, gifts, and service. Then, together as a church body,
we will affirm our relationship in Christ and together by making our commitments to live out our faith together.
