a). Individual Interview: Sample data gathered from different group of the Notlaw island:
Students ( Basic level of education to PhD level), Working People (includes doctors and other
government officials), and Elderly Citizens regardless of sex i.e., both male and female.

b). Questionnaires: Responses or feedbacks gathered from the inhabitants, students (Basic level
of education to PhD level), and etc based on the age, the life style adapted, languages they speak,
customs they follow, legends, main occupation they followed, and the history of the island.
(Irrespective of the sex). This helps in collecting statistical data.

c). Direct Observations: Students, Working People, and Elderly Citizens.

d). Focus Groups and Workshops: Students Group (12 ± 21 years), Youngsters (22 ± 39 years),
Middle ± aged Group (40 ± 59 years) and Elders (60 and above).

a). Individual Interview: To gather data and understand the historical significance of the place by
analyzing the stories narrated by the interviewer that helps in designing the -? .

b). Questionnaires: Questionnaires are a well ± established technique for collecting demographic
data and users opinions about the history of the Notlaw.

c). Direct Observations: It can help filling in details and nuances that are not elicited from the
other forms of investigation. The data is gathered from the inhabitants of the Notlaw about the
history of the place.

d). Focus Groups and Workshops: The benefit of a focus group is that it allows diverse or
sensitive issues to be raised that might otherwise be missed in other types of data capturing
methods. We can also ask their opinions in designing the web ± based application.

I would prefer the combination of Individual Interview and Questionnaires because by

interviewing the persons and the level of questions will depend on their age and even the
answers. We can come to know what is importance that they are giving for history that place has
and how people have adapted themselves to the new generations (change in lifestyle) and their
emotional feelings because emotional feelings cannot be gathered by Questionnaires because it
gives only statistical data from which we can check how adaptable to changing environment with
respect to technology which help us to know how good they are in using computers, which will
be useful for us to design an effective and user friendly web ± based application.

In Interviews are good at getting people to explore issues which are used early on to elicit
scenarios. By conducting interviews we feel that percentage of people involvement is very high.
They use the same set of questions are used to each participants so that the study is standardized.
When it comes to interviewing the school children¶s looking at their face reaction we can see
whether the question asked liked or not. (Considering even children¶s as well but in the age
group that I have mentioned above).
Questionnaires may be used for getting initial responses that can used to select people (focus
group) to conduct interview and also to get a wider perspective on particular issues that have
arisen elsewhere. Example if any web ± based application is designed will be welcomed or not.

It can also gather the information about the opinions and suggestion views with respect to any
such application design. We can ask them to fill the questionnaires and send it over the mail if
the people are spread across wide geographical area. We don¶t have to visit them in person.

1.? Professor Ann Agar and her Team categorize the stories uploaded in the form
text/audio/video clippings.
2.? Inhabitants who input the Narratives.
3.? Tourists and Other People who replays the stories they choose.

 ? "! $
1.? With respect to their national culture, we will come know what are the languages
that are more frequently used which will be one of the major concerns for
designing of the web ± based application. So if a person enters the story apart
from English then the system as to convert and then display in English assuming
it be common language.

2.? The person entering the story is a novice then he requires step ± by ± step
instructions about how to enter the story in form of scanned photographs and
video clips. Keeping this in mind we can design with minimum number of steps.

3.? If the person is a frequently user of the computer and internet then he might find
it very easy to do the task of entering the story in any form and probably even if
we provide any shortcuts then it¶ll be useful for them.

4.? Ability of a person: Suppose a person knows more than one language and this
shows he is able to communicate in more than one language and also inputs the
stories in two languages so considering this ability. We can think of giving
multiple choices for the language they prefer to upload the stories.

5.? Person¶s educational backgrounds also place an important role in designing the
application, how the application can be designed with respect to ease of use.

6.? Person¶s may have different attitude to computers some may be very good at
technical skills of the computer, some persons may be of knowledge zero and the
rest may be jack of all master of nothing. We should be careful of this nature of
the persons because they have the tendency of exploring web ± based application
to increase their knowledge. Considering this point we have design in such way
that they should land up in some problem that might halts the systems so privacy
and security concerns should be priority.

1.? Rose aged 22 years student of Notlaw University mastering the subject History.
She spends most of her time in the university from morning 9am to 5pm in the
evening and her interest is to explore the traditional language, customs, legends
and way of life of Notlaw people lead before. She is doing a research about why
young people are migrating to other countries. She also has knowledge about
computers. She likes telling stories to kids in her free time and she is also a
regular visitor to a government aided orphanage center.

2.? Peter aged 36 years and by profession he is a doctor (Eye Specialists) works at
David Group of Hospital and treats patients who are physical disabled (blind), so
he uses the recorded voice clips to teach them how to ask help from others, what
phrases to use, and how should they recognize the danger signal, and to have
some sort of change for them, he also play the stories that are related to the
history because he wants his patients to know their culture and languages etc.
[Assuming that they will be given education till certain level so that they can read
and also if they listen to any records can understand].

1.? Rose visited the student community center in the university and she will come to
know about that web ± based application. She visits the website and sees what all
the users can do and since she had keen interest in telling stories and decided to
upload one such story about the history of the Notlaw along with scanned
photographs that she had. She visited the orphanage center along with her laptop
and showed the kids about the stories and the photographs that other users had
uploaded into the site.

2.? Dr. Peter in his hospital when he was checking mails he had received the mail
with subject ³Flash News´ and it was sent by his friend and the mail goes like
this, his friend says that there is site in which the history of the Notlaw is given in
the form of stories (text, audio, video clippings) and he sent this because Peter is
doctor who treats the patients who are blind so his friend thought it might help
him to tell his patients about the history of the Notlaw.
