Welcome to the National Conference on ‘Developing A
Modern Entrepreneurial Society (DAMES 2011)’.
Dames 2011 conference is an opportunity for a broader
spectrum of people concerned with entrepreneurship to
meet and discuss developments in the field.
In an economy shaped by globalization, the significant
role of entrepreneurship to economic development
through industrial development has been documented.
Economic development involves an increase in living
standards, greater choice of goods and services,
improvement in environmental wellbeing, low level of
unemployment, and security (in general) of members of
the society. It also alleviates people from low standards
of living into a better quality of life.
Enterprises have made significant contributions towards
economic growth, development, and quality of life in
many nations, but they are yet to reach their maximum
potential. This conference is a forum to deliberate on
several issues related to the subjects of entrepreneurship
development in the society and small medium
enterprises from academic and practitioners’
perspectives.

School, B.S.Abdur Rahman University, Chennai-48,
Tamil Nadu, in association with The Micro, Small &
Medium Enterprises (MSME) Development Institute,
Government of India, Guindy, Chennai
.About BSAU & CBS: B.S. Abdur Rahman
University, (formerly B.S. Abdur Rahman Crescent
Engineering College) has been established under
section 3 of the UGC Act 1956. B.S. Abdur Rahman
Crescent Engineering College, which has now been
upgraded as B.S. Abdur Rahman University, was an
institution acclaimed throughout India for its quality in
teaching and research. Being one of the largest
engineering institutions in India, it lays emphasis on
innovative research & investment in state-of-
of Chennai city on the G.S.T. Road, (Chennai-Trichy
National Highway) 7 km from Tambaram and 2 km
from Vandalur Railway Station and 17 km from the
International Airport.
Crescent Business School (CBS) offers two year MBA
programme following trimester pattern. CBS, with its
close collaboration with industry has taken all efforts to
prepare the would-be executives and entrepreneurs to
stand up to the challenges of this hi-tech age, exposing
them to sophisticated learning through projects of
practical values, group discussions, seminars, guest
lectures, management games, quiz and case studies. The
school lays emphasis on multifaceted learning
experiences. CBS-MBA programme is dedicated to
produce competent professionals to meet the global
needs. A team of well-qualified members of the faculty
with industrial and academic experience contribute to
the strength of the school. In addition, CBS invites a
large number of professionals from Industry for lectures
and experience sharing.
About MSME
The Micro Small and Medium Enterprises
Development institute (MSME DI), Chennai,
established in the year 1954, as field level Institute
under the Ministry of MSME, Government of India.
Office of DC (MSME) is the apex body for formulating
MSME policies in the country and it implements
promotional activities through its country wide network
of MSME DIs, Br. MSME DIs, MSME Testing Center
& Stations, Prototype Development Centers and Tool
Rooms etc., MSME DI, Chennai assists existing and
prospective entrepreneurs by providing techno-
managerial consultancy services and training in various
areas.
MSME DI offers various services like technical
consultancy in the trades of chemical, food, mechanical,
electrical & electronics, ceramics, glass, leather,
metallurgy etc., economic and market information,
training in technical & management areas, export
promotion, ancillary development etc.
