FIRST WORD April 30 & May 1, 2011

Discovering
First Baptist Church
NAPLES
May 2 starting at 6:30 p.m.
First Baptist Church Naples
The Provider at Work
I want to share a friend’s testimony which will certainly bless
you and demonstrate how God is working.

“The journey started in 2006 when my husband, children,

sister, mom, and I started to pray for the Lord to open
doors for my brothers-in-law and their families to legally
immigrate to the United States of America. We also asked God for us to be
able to minister to them while they were living with us.

Although there are so many restrictions in Cuba and immigration is a long

process that usually takes months and sometimes 10 years, the entire
process went well and fast. Since 14 people total were living in our house,
every bill tripled the amount we paid before. We consumed more food,
gas, water, and electricity. We can certainly say Jehovah-Jireh, the Lord is
our provider. Sisters and brothers in Christ from FBCN provided bedroom
sets, mattresses, clothing, money, and food. A sister donated her car for us
to be able to transport the family to the church and appointments with
immigration and doctors.

From the beginning, we put our situation at the foot of the cross. God
revealed His majesty and mercy at times when we could only maintain
our trust that God would multiply our ‘baskets of fish and bread,’ as once
before. In times of doubt, we took refuge in the Word of God which
provided us with assurance that our mighty God was going to finish what
He had already started. Our greatest prayer was for God to do His will and
to use us to change their lives forever. They are now attending the Spanish
Mission at First Baptist Church where they have the potential to grow in
the love of God, and we have the assurance that God will complete what
He already started.”

The provision came in fulfillment of Matthew 6:33. My friend wrote: “The

Lord our God convicted our hearts (my husband and mine) in a Bible & Life
Group that we should not only just give the ten percent of what we brought
home (net payment), but the first fruit of our earnings. The Bible study
emphasized the importance of tithing or to better say it, the importance
of giving back to the Lord of what belongs to Him. We are giving to Him
nothing that compares to what He did for us.” Amen! I certainly could not
say it better.

Guest Reception
There is a guest reception in the Commons immediately following the
Saturday night and Sunday morning 11:00 a.m. service. Come and meet
Dr. Wicker.
Please join with fellow believers at the National Day of Prayer observance on
Thursday, May 5 at Noon. This event is held on the steps of the Collier County
Courthouse. The evening event is meeting at the bandshell behind the Golden
Gate Community Center at 7:00 p.m. The theme of this year’s observance is
“A Mighty Fortress is Our God.” Please encourage everyone to come to these
amazing events...for our city, our state, and our nation!

Collier County -- A Call to Prayer

In the days leading up to the National Day of Prayer, Collier County
organizers are asking you to pray for the following:
21. Ask God to open our eyes to see how we, the Body of Christ, can impact our society by
becoming involved in the governing process of Florida. Lord, help us to be aware of what
our senators and congressman are fighting for and support pro-life legislation, legislation
that puts restriction on abortions and bans the public funding of abortion. Pray to end
abortion. (Ex. 4:9-10)
22. Give thanks to the Lord for the Christian organizations He has established to help us be
informed citizens. Pray for Christians to see the right to vote as a gift from the Father and to
register to vote. (Acts 6:1-6)
23. Pray for president Obama, ask the Lord’s protection for the president and his family. Pray
that God would surround him with wise counsel, and give him discernment, understanding,
and knowledge so that our nation may know stability here and abroad. (Ro. 13:1, Prov. 28:2)
24. Give thanks to God for the plan He gave to our forefathers by which to govern our
nation and for the division of powers so that our destiny does not rest in the hands of one
person. Pray for our Congress (both the House of Representatives and the Senate). Pray
that by God’s power, our legislative body would make laws that are just and adhere to our
constitution. (Prov. 8:15)
25. God, we ask you to turn the hearts of our present Supreme Court Justices to you and by
Your hand, godly justice would rise up within our justices and they would make rulings in
line with Your will. (Deut. 16:18)
26. Ask God to raise up journalists and publishers of integrity, who would speak, write, and
print the truth in the face of all opposition. (Psalm 68:11)
27. Pray for God’s protection over our military, and that every soldier would know God in a
personal way. (Psalm 119:114, 117)
28. Pray for the families of our military that they too would know Christ, that Christians
would reach out to them in a supportive way and encourage them through the Scripture
and the love of God. (Phil. 3:10, 2 Cor. 1:3, 4)
29. Pray for national revival, that the church would awake to righteousness and holiness,
in every denomination, in every body of believers. That we would unify under the blood-
stained banner of the Cross and preach the gospel clearly in every highway and byway of
our nation. Pray that the church will stand up and speak out for righteousness in our land.
(Acts 3:19, Eph. 4:4-6)
30. Pray that the standard of a godly family be restored to our nation. Ask God to bring
a resurgence in the public forum of the benefits of a godly family, and may it become
apparent that the values as represented in Scripture are the path in which to lead our
nation. (Gen. 1:28, 2:24)

Being a single parent is not an easy task. There are times we are at our
wits end. Thankfully, God is ever present and able to walk us through
each issue. This study will teach us important principles such as: How to
bring stability to our children by getting our life in order; How forgiveness
opens the door for healthy relationships; How to develop positive self-
esteem when kids need it most. Come join us as we study, pray, and grow
together.

Big Life is a Rapidly Reproducing Church Planting Movement

Founded in the year 2000 as a non-denominational 501c3
Missions organization

* Indigenous Church Planters – 600+ former Hindus,

Buddhists, Muslims, (and even radical jihadists), are now
spreading the gospel in the country in which they live and
work

* The cost to support an indigenous planter is less than

2% of the cost to support a western missionary

* NO speed bumps – Churches planted are not

“church buildings,” but meet in homes or open spaces in
villages to facilitate rapid reproduction

* Over 4,000 home churches planted in the last 8 years

* 70,000+ decisions for Christ
* Average of 5 home churches being planted Every Day!

* BigLife is currently working in Nepal, Bhutan, Pakistan,

Bangladesh, Turkey, Cambodia, Thailand, and India. -Doors
are opening in Viet Nam, Indonesia, Afghanistan, Israel,
South America, Africa, and other areas where God is leading

* At the current rate, we will more than double in size in

2011, and possibly see 50,000 - 100,000 more people come to
Christ!

Jackie K
Jackie Kendall has ministered through teaching and counseling
for more than 30 years. Jackie’s teaching ministry in and through
the local church spans the spectrum from youth, college, singles,
and married adults. As President of Power to Grow Ministries,
Jackie is a sought after conference speaker for people of all ages
and stages of life. Her teaching presentation is hard-hitting,
humorous, and healing. Her teaching allows tough topics to
become easier to swallow as she spices them with her savory
humor and Biblical style.

Jackie has chosen a road earmarked by personal vulnerability, accessibility and

honesty. She readily admits to being a “fellow struggler” and sees transparency as
a most important link in personal growth toward Christ. Out of Jackie’s hurt and
heartache has come a unique speaking ministry. Jackie’s instruction is full of
practical insights and off the wall humor that takes you on a journey that will leave
you changed.

We all want our girls to live “Happly-Ever-After” and Jackie Kendall will
help introduce them to the only Prince who can deliver that promise.
-- Vickie Courtney

Organ Fund
We are now collecting money for a Rodgers Organ for ongoing use in our
Chapel for weddings, funerals, and special events (and for occasional use in
our Worship Center). We have the opportunity to purchase a well cared for
instrument because a church in Florida has upgraded from a two manual
organ to a four manual organ. This wonderful instrument will serve our
needs well and will be a welcome addition to our music
ministry. The two manual organ installed will be $35,000.
If you would like to give toward this instrument, please
use an envelope in the chair rack and designate “Organ
Fund”. If you would like more information, please call the
music ministry office at 596-8600 x229.
