LABORATORY EXERCISES
INSTRUCTOR NOTE The following section provides directions to set up, facilitate, and assist during the
student lab exercises.
Some lab exercises are the written type with worksheets, while other labs are the
traditional “on the iron” labs. Answers are provided for the worksheet exercises.
The actual student lab sheets, along with accompanying materials, are located in the
Student Materials section.
NOTE: Discuss safety procedures with the students for each shop lab (i.e.
safety glasses, clothing). Safely Home. Everyone. Every Day.™
Students will adhere to all applicable safety regulations. There should not be more
students in the cab or on the machine platforms than what is allowed by site safety
guidelines. It is unreasonable to assume that all students can access the cab at the
same time.
EXERCISE Students will be able to describe the function of all controls and switches.
Procedure:
Instruct the students to complete their worksheets while in the cab of the machine.
Inform students of any special attachments that the class 994H may have.
Directions: During the visual presentation, use these worksheets to take notes as the function of each component is
explained.
Location: The single section gear pump mounted on the implement cooling pump
Function: Contains tachometer, analog gauges, and an LCD window for displaying machine information
Location: In the operator’s station in the center of the front dash panel
Function: Displays machine status and diagnostic information and is the operator interface with the monitoring
system
Location: In the right console to the right of the operator’s seat below the Advisor panel
Function: Sends signals over the CAN Data Link to the Machine ECMs to control the various machine
functions
Function: Sends a signal to the Power Train ECM to indicate when the operator wants to start the engine
Function: A
ttached to the parking brake valve via a cable. When activated, the parking brake valve directs oil
