Island Hopping Strategy
• MacArthur planned on
bypassing Japanese
strongholds by
“leapfrogging” past them.
• Islands would serve as air-
cover for future
operations; air cover also
could be used to stop
Japanese supply-lines to
their strongholds.

posession were dropped over Hiroshima
