TECHNOLOGY STANDARD 2 – The competent teacher will apply tools for enhancing

personal professional growth and productivity; will use technology in communicating,

collaborating, conducting research, and solving problems and will promote equitable,

ethical, and legal use of computer/technology resources.

1. Write a paragraph explaining your knowledge and understanding of the standard—put the

standard into your own words.

Teaching is not a stand still profession. Teachers are constantly growing, enhancing their

knowledge and skill as well as furthering their education. Technology is a great way for teachers

to teachers to show their professional growth. Websites or forum pages allow teachers to get

their knowledge and information out there to people who will benefit it most. In order for many

people to reach what they have to offer or have to say, the teacher needs to know what

technology to use and how to use it.

2. Explain how the artifact you chose demonstrates your understanding and application of the

standard.

The artifact I chose is a personal website that shows future employers, parents, or fellow

educators my values and views on education. It is a resume of sorts on the internet. It is quick

and easy to get out to anyone instead of mailing or faxing hundreds of papers. I have used my

use of technology to advance my career and growth. It is also a first step in showing my

effectiveness or ease to communicate with faculty members and parents throughout the school

year.

the future to further meet the standard.

B. If the artifact has not been used in your practice, i.e., a class assignment, reflect upon how

your teaching will be impacted by the assignment.

I have not had the chance to use the artifact in practice yet but it will not directly effect

my classroom. From creating my website, I will be more comfortable creating and updating a

class website that contains helpful links, games, homework information, class information, etc. I

feel that the coordinating and procedure of putting together my portfolio website prepared me for

the small things I can do in my classroom to help it be a more organized and successful room. I

want my students to use the internet, explore and be able to have something positive to turn to

while they are on the computer.

4. Conclude with a paragraph discussing how you are more prepared to Teach and Learn in a

Diverse Society as a result of satisfactorily meeting the standard.

Technology is a mutual language for most cultures and societies. So being able to put

something for all of my students in one place is very helpful. However, a lot of students don’t

have access to technology which is where inventive teaching comes into practice. How to give

those students access and exposure to technology is something to really think about and plan out.

I think when it comes to personal growth; it is good to have technology to show people where

you come from, what you have done, and who you are so they are more comfortable with you in

the classroom. This allows you to show the types of students and environments you have

worked in so parents or professionals will know how well you can handle a specific situation.
