Week 1: The Kingdom of God and the victorious Church
Instructor: Navon Lindo, Jr.
Sunday, January 16, 2011

Introduction

As believers, it is important to understand the nature and characteristics of the Kingdom of

God and our position in it. As we continue to walk in the revelation of the Kingdom of God
and the church as the agent of the Kingdom, we will understand that we do not have to
fight “for” victory; rather, we fight from our “position” of victory.

A definition of the Kingdom of God

The Kingdom of God is the rule and reign of God. It is not bound by geographical
demarcations; rather it is all pervasive. It spreads everywhere the will and glory of the
LORD is revealed. Jesus spent a significant amount of time preaching and teaching about
the Kingdom of God.

Pictures of the Kingdom in the Old Testament

The Song of Rescue (Exodus 15:1-21)

The Kingdom of God breaks through Pharaoh’s aggression and bondage of the children of
Israel.

God’s intervention on behalf of the children of Israel demonstrates at least the following
(Derek Morphew, Breakthrough, 2006):

 Kingdom Announcement: The Revelation of the Divine Name “Yahweh” (Exodus

3:13-14; )
 Kingdom Intervention: The Spiritual Battle (Exodus 12:12)
 Kingdom Intervention: The Military Battle (Exodus 14:23-25)
 Kingdom Confession: The Reign of the LORD (Exodus 15:18)

“The picture of the Kingdom in the Exodus points forward to the fulfillment of the
Kingdom in Jesus Christ…As he cast out demons, healed the sick, stilled the storm,
and raised the dead, he was invading the prison house of the strong man and
setting captives free” (Morphew, p. 21, 2006).

New Testament pictures of the Kingdom of God

The Kingdom of God has broken through the coming and the ministry of Christ.

 Jesus and the prophetic fulfillment of Isaiah 61:1-2. See Luke 4:16-19.

1
Jesus and the Kingdom of God

 Jesus, the King of the Kingdom – Daniel 7:13-15; Mark 12:35-37; Matthew 12:42;
21:1-11; Mark 11:1-10; Luke 19:28-44; John 12:12-19; Revelation 11:15)

 Jesus, the Announcer of the Kingdom – Jesus announced the presence of the
Kingdom through proclamation (the Good News of the Kingdom) and
demonstration (deliverance, healing, and miracles) See Luke 11:20; Mark 1:14-15;
27; 1:38-39 and 1 John 3:8.

The Church— Agent of the Kingdom

“…I will build my church and all the powers of hell will not conquer it”
(Matthew 16:19, NLT).

Exercising Kingdom Authority (From James Goll, Deliverance from Darkness)

o “God transferred authority to humankind, giving human beings the authority to act
as His Representatives” (p. 59) (Genesis 1:26;28)
o Transfer of authority from humans to Satan (Luke 4:6)
o Authority transferred to Jesus (Matthew 28:18)
 Jesus paid the ransom for human kind (Romans 3:23; 5:8; 6:23).
 Jesus bought back his Lordship by becoming the sinless sacrificial lamb to pay
the price for our sin (Galatians 3:13-14).
 Jesus the Son had triumphed over Satan (Colossians 2:15; Ephesians 4:8-9
1 John 3:8; Hebrews 2:14-15; )
 Jesus is now LORD of all (Ephesians 1:21-22; Philippians 2:9-11)
o Jesus transfers authority to believers
 The same power and authority to do what Jesus did (Matthew 10:1; Mark
16:15-18; Luke 9:1,2;10:19; John 14:12; Acts 1:8)
 We are ruling and reigning with Christ now! (Ephesians 2:6; 1 John 4:17;
Revelation 1:6; 5:10)
 We are now Kingdom representatives tasked to enforce all that Jesus has
obtained for us legally (Colossians 1:13; 2 Corinthians 5:20; Mark 16:15-18)

“The church is heaven’s official agency in the earth for carrying out the “foreign” policies of
its heavenly government through prayer and other methodologies and strategies…As His
governmental official, we represent (re-present) the King and His kingdom…” (Cindy Trimm,
The Rules of Engagement, p. 16)

Activity: Kingdom Prayers & Decrees (From John Eckhardt, Prayers that Rout Demons, pp.
16-17).

Home Work: Read The Bondage Breaker by Dr. Neil Anderson (pp. 75-89).
