ONE IN BEING FAITHFUL TO OUR VISION AND MISSION FOR A FUTURE WITH HOPE
(A STATEMENT OF UNITED METHODIST YOUTH FELLOWSHIP IN THE PHILIPPINES ON THE PRESENT CHURCH CRISIS)

st
1 National Youth Council Meeting
San Leonardo UMC
August 6-8, 2010

We, the concerned youth of The United Methodist Church, together in one voice, courageously speak for a unified call in
restoring our faithful mission to the God of history. In a milieu of alienation in the Middle Philippines Annual Conference
United Methodist Youth Fellowship (MIDPAC-UMYF), we are called to faithfully seek God’s spirit of redemption and
restoration in our church. In attaining this process, we are now the young prophets of our time discerning to respond to
God’s call of announcing love and healing amidst the church crisis.

The following circumstances among the MIDPAC-UMYF were filled with heaviness of hearts among the youth:
 Creation of factions among youth and youth leaders
 Attempts to take over the youth leadership to gain power and pursue self interest.

We, the concerned youth of faith, are in pain because of the alienated spirit that enfolds in the middle of the church
crisis. Issues wrapped with division and disunity have wide-ranging effects in the mission and life of the church especially
to youth of MIDPAC. It broadly brings about turmoil, confusion and pain among the youth who truly seek God’s
empowerment in the midst of the crisis. We are wounded and in pain as we face a terrible reality in our midst. We are
wounded and in pain as we search for healing and restoration.

We, the concerned youth who are faithful to fulfill God’s mission, are truly empowered in spite of a struggle for a vision
of hope, transformation and unity. We take part in this noble endeavor of reconciliation and healing and become an
opening towards a new vision of hope and transformation. We are devoted to carry out our Supreme task: To know
Christ and to make Him known while we strive to attain and dream for a meaningful growth of our church. We are
healed while in pain for we let our faith strengthened the unity and mission we entrench in the history of the humanity.
We are healed while in pain for we translate our weaknesses into strengths and visions of hope.

We, the concerned youth of faith, courageously speak that we must put an end to the pain caused by division and
disunity in our church. We cannot allow these things to weaken our fellowship. That as one, we will continue being
faithful to our vision and mission for a future with hope.

Christ above all!
