KHAMMAM: Five tribal persons, including a six-year-old boy, died and two others were taken ill after
consuming toddy, allegedly laced with some poisonous substance used to kill the birds, at a Gutti
Koya settlement under Vissapuram gram panchayat in Bhadrachalam mandal in the wee hours of
Friday.

According to sources, Madivi Gangaiah, 45, of the Salebodipela, a temporary settlement, hosted a
party in connection with the visit of his relatives from Chhattisgarh on Thursday night. He reportedly
served toddy after mixing it in a dried bottle gourd vessel that was earlier used to store some toxic
substance meant for killing cranes. Gangaiah too consumed the toddy.

According to sources, K. Mohan and K. Kalyan hosted a party in connection with a visit of his
relative from Kakinada on Thursday night. Hari too consumed the toddy.

All the seven who consumed toddy, including 2 children, developed nausea and severe stomach
ache before fainting.

KHAMMAM: Three members of a marriage party, including the bridegroom, a police constable, were
killed and the bride was seriously injured in a ghastly road accident involving a car and a lorry near
Reddygudem village in Thallada mandal on Thursday.

According to the police, a lorry collided with the car. Two members of the marriage party -- Baby,
40, and Yesu Rao, 45, were killed on the spot.
M Nagaraju, a constable of the Kondapur-based APSP VIII Battalion, was returning to his native
place Mandamarri in Adilabad district in the car, after his marriage with Durga Purnima of
Amalapuram in East Godavari district. He succumbed to the injuries at a hospital. Durga Purnima
was rushed to a private hospital in Khammam where her condition is stated to be critical. Tragedy
struck the marriage party just a couple of hours after the wedding at Amalapuram.

In a separate incident, Malothu Harya, 55, and his grandson Premnath, 15, of Palvancha, were killed
when the autorickshaw in which they were travelling collided with another autorickshaw near
Lothuvagu locality in Kothagudem on Thursday.

In another accident, M. Venkateshwarlu, 25, a farmer, was knocked down by a tractor at

Jammigudem in Ashwaraopet mandal.

ADILABAD: Students of government junior colleges in Adilabad did the district proud by being
ranked first in terms of pass percentage among government colleges category in the Intermediate
second year examination.

The pass percentage stood at over 83. Overall, the district was placed 6th with a pass percentage of
66. Last year, 67 per cent of the students had passed the examination. The pass per cent of girls
was 70 while that of boys was 62.

Sangareddy: Students of Medak district secured 12th position in the State with 57 per cent

According to the officials of the Board of Intermediate Education, 12,416 students passed out of the

TENALI: Deepthi Publications, a printing press where Intermediate textbooks are allegedly being
illegally printed, was seized here on Tuesday.

Nearly 6,500 textbooks of mathematic, physics and chemistry were recovered by Circle Inspector
and SI, who led the raid.

Intermediate text books are supposed to be printed only by Telugu Acadimy, Hyderabad, as per the
GO issued last year.

The police booked a case under the Copyright Act following a complaint lodged by two officials of
the Telugu Academy, who were present during the raid.

Deepthi Publications, a printing press where intermediate text books were illegally being printed,
was seized here on Tuesday.

Nearly 6,500 text books of mathematic, physic and chemistry were recovered by Circle Inspector
and SI, who led the raid.

The Intermediate books are supposed to be printed by only Telugu Academy, Hyderabad, as per the
GO issued last year.

The city police arrested four persons on Thursday who were allegedly involved in the
murder of 17-year-old R. Aswini Mridula. She was killed in her apartment on March 29.

Announcing this at a press conference at the apartment complex where she was killed, the
commissioner of police, Mr J. Purnachandra Rao, said Chintala Sivaramakrishna, his
associates Mangalagiri Kalyan, Mangalagiri Pratap Kumar and Chenna Srinivasa Rao were
taken into custody on charges of killing the Mridula. All the four arrested persons would be
produced in the court soon, the commissioner said.

April 25: Recruitment of anganwadi staff is affected due to non-cooperation from some
public representatives in East Godavari. The government had sanctioned 441 main
anganwadi centres and 209 mini anganwadi centres to be set up in the district nearly four
months ago in addition to the existing 4,413 AWCs in the district. For these, the women

HYDERABAD: The Cyberabad police on Monday arrested five Nigerians and an Indian woman, who
relieved a student from Hyderabad of Rs. 18.73 lakh two months ago after luring him with 7.5 lakh
British pounds of a promotional event prize.

The woman was a companion of one of the arrested Nigerians, Edoja Kennedy. They and the four
other accused were living in a flat in Mumbai, the Cyber Crime police of Cyberabad said. An amount
of Rs. 57,000, seven laptops, 16 mobile phones, nine SIM cards and six data cards were seized
from them.

The gang sent a text message to an engineering student, G. Amit Kumar, 21, of Yapral on his
mobile phone stating that he had won Coco-Cola world promotional event comprising 7.5 lakh
British pounds.

Later, they sent an email asking him to deposit Rs. 15,000 towards customs fee to claim
the prize. Thus, the gang made him deposit a total of Rs. 18.73 lakh on the pretexts of paying fee
to Income Tax Department and the Reserve Bank of India.

The student grew suspicious as the gang insisted on payment of Rs. 5 lakh more to secure the prize
money and approached the police.

The investigators traced the e-mail identity to a flat at Morel, Maroshi road, Mumbai, based on
Internet Protocol address.

They nabbed Kennedy, 34, his friend, Pooja Karmokar, 20, and their associates, Oazee Ewemade
Collins, 32, Inneah Ambrose Amadin, 32, Charles Omage, 32, and Emmanuel Uyi, 31, after raiding
the flat.

Police believe the accused had duped several persons in this fashion. They were brought from

ADILABAD: Tragedy struck two families of Veeravelli village in Koutala mandal of Adilabad district
on Sunday when six of their members drowned in the Wainganga river on Sunday morning as the
country boats in which they were making a crossing capsized. Five others swam to safety.

Some 10 members of both the families were on their way to Vittalapur village across the river in
Maharashtra to select the bride for one of them. They were crossing the river in two small and
narrow country fishing boats that were joined in the middle to increase the capacity.

HYDERABAD: An Intermediate first year student ended his life by hanging in his house at Chintal of
Dundigal police station area on Friday reportedly dejected over failure in first year exams, the police
said.

G. Jagan, 18, was upset since he learnt about the exams result the previous day. He hanged himself
to the ceiling fan in the bedroom while his parents, Narsinga Rao and Vijayalaxmi, were outside the
house in the morning.

“Jagan was hanging to the fan when they came inside. They rushed him to hospital where doctors
declared him brought dead,” the police said.

NELLORE: A landlord G. Gopal (55) was shot dead by a villager I. Venugopal in Damavaram village
of Dagadarthi mandal in the district on Friday.

village and both the parties approached the village elders over the issue.

The problem was not settled even after a few sittings and on Friday morning Gopal and Venugopal
quarrelled over this.

In a fit of rage, Venugopal fired with his licensed weapon killing Gopal on the spot. The villagers
beat the accused and handed him over to the police

He was later admitted in a hospital by the police. Investigation is on.

HYDERABAD: Telugu Desam Party president N. Chandrababu Naidu celebrated his 62 {+n} {+d}
birthday on Wednesday by spending time with blind children at Devnar School and attending a host
of functions.

A steady stream of visitors greeted him from morning at his Jubilee Hills residence, which included
party leaders and film personalities.

Vedic pandits chanted hymns and Christian priests blessed Mr. Naidu. The TDP president later cut a
cake.

Indian National Lok Dal leader Omprakash Chautala, AIADMK general secretary Jayalalithaa, film-
maker Dasari Narayana Rao, former State BJP president B. Dattatreya and State CPI secretary K.
Narayana greeted Mr. Naidu over telephone.

Prominent among those who called on him were actor and his brother-in-law, N. Balakrishna, Jr.
NTR and several party leaders, including Nagam Janardhan Reddy.

In a chat with mediapersons, Mr. Balakrishna dismissed as a “creation of media” differences in the
family.

There were no such differences, he said, adding the party would return to power under the
leadership of Mr. Naidu. Conspicuous by his absence was N. Harikrishna.

Telugu Desam president Naidu went round an exhibition of his portraits in different moods drawn by
artist Balu, inaugurated a blood donation camp and distributed clothes to the poor at the party
office.

HYDERABAD: Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy on Wednesday sanctioned Rs. 50,000 to MBA
student Sireesha who lost three fingers in an incident in Vijayawada.

According to a CMO release, a request seeking financial aid was made by MLC Paladugu Venkatrao,
saying because she was grievously injured in the incident and shifted to the NIMS, her education
was affected
HYDERABAD: A woman, Saraswati, 26, and her 45-day-old daughter, Ishwarya, were killed after an
RTC bus hit them at the Bowenpally junction on Wednesday.

The woman was walking on the road carrying the baby, while her husband, Ramesh, and elder
daughter, Gayatri, 3, were a few yards ahead when the accident occurred around 8 p.m. They were
going from Chinnatokatta to Balanagar and the bus coming from Jeedimetla too was headed in the
same direction when it knocked down the woman, Bowenpally Inspector C. Venugopal Reddy said.

KURNOOL: An APSRTC driver was burnt alive at Atmakur in Kurnool district on Wednesday.

According to reports, the driver identified as G. Narayana was taking rest after duty in his house
when it caught fire. His wife was away to school with children when the incident occurred. He died
on the spot. The police were investigating.

HYDERABAD: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Tuesday registered cases against
Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) Chief Executive Officer C. Ravindra, five engineering
officials, two builders and other unknown persons.

The cases were booked under Section 120-B (criminal conspiracy) read with section 409 (criminal

(d) of PC Act, 1988.

A five-member CBI team arrived at the SCB office at around 12.30 p.m and continued their
searches for an hour.

VISAKHAPATNAM: The Detection of Pilferage Energy (DPE) squad of the Eastern Power Distribution
Company of AP Limited (APEPDCL) has detected 45 cases of theft of power recently and imposed a
penalty of Rs 7,32,588 on the erring consumers. Superintending Engineer (DPE Wing) P.V.V.
Satyanarayana said here on Tuesday that the 45 cases were detected in five operation circle limits.
These include six cases in Srikakulam operation circle limits, four in Vizianagaram, four in
Visakhapatnam, 19 in Rajahmundry and 12 in Eluru. Mr. Satyanarayana said cases of meter bypass
and direct tampering were detected.

VIJAYAWADA: A few leaders of the Krishna Delta Pariraksha Samithi lead by former Minister
Devineni Rajasekhar Reddy met Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy to discuss the progress of the
Pulichintala Project at Hyderabad on Tuesday.

The delegation submitting a report of progress in the project said that a special effort should be
made to ensure that the “non overflow dam” was completed for the impounding of 3.5 tmcft of
water by this rainy season.

The appointment of a separate superintending engineer and putting the project in the priority list of
Jalayagnam were other aspects to which the delegation drew the attention of the Chief Minister. The
Chief Minister responded positively to all the requests made by the delegation.
NELLORE: The police claimed to have solved the rape and murder case of a degree student, T.
Padmavathi, whose body was found on SVGS college campus on Nellore outskirts on April 5. They
arrested a construction worker, Sk. Subhani of Kovur mandal in the district, in this connection.

With the help of the cell phone of the victim, which was being used by the accused, and the video
footage of the CC camera in the cell phone shop, the police arrested Subhani, said East CI CH.
Venkateswarlu. Padmavathi, a native of Sulluripeta in the district, was in first year degree in D.K.W.
College in the city.

Disclosing this to the newsmen here on Tuesday, the inspector said that Padmavathi came to a
mobile phone shop where she met Subhani. The accused befriended the girl on the pretext of
providing a job and invited her to his home. When the auto reached Saibaba temple in Balaji Nagar,
Subhani asked her to get down from the vehicle and took her to the college campus. When the
accused started misbehaving with her, Padmavathi resisted and tried to escape. But, Subhani
thrashed the girl, overpowered her and committed the crime.

Later, the accused disfigured her face by beating with stones and tried to bury the body. The
accused took Rs.2,500 cash, ear tops and cell phone from her bag and fled from the scene, said the
CI. The police tracked the movements of the accused since a few days and took him into custody at
Bodigari Thota on Monday night. During interrogation, Subhani confessed to have committed the
crime. Cases were booked against the accused under Sections. 376, 302, 379 and 211 of IPC, said
Mr.Venkateswara Rao.

According to the suicide note left by the deceased M. Ramulu (23), he had married a girl Priyanka
against the wish of her parents. Since then, he faced harassment from the parents of the girl as well
as from the police. Unable to face the harassment, he attempted suicide in the past also. Priyanka's
father Prabhakar took away his daughter to their house. Ramulu's efforts to meet his wife were
foiled by her parents and his appeal to the police for justice did not yield any result. Vexed, Ramulu
committed suicide by consuming poison. In the suicide note, Ramulu blamed DSP S.
Satyanarayana, his father-in-law Prabhakar, and his brother-in-law Raju for the suicide.

NELLORE: Karavalla Venkata Syamalamma, mother-in-law of Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy,
passed away here on Monday, after a prolonged illness. She was 71.

Syamalamma was suffering with urinary track problem since two months and was treated at
Bollineni Hospital, Nellore, said the Bollineni Hospital Director Giri Naidu. As her condition turned
critical, she was referred to Apollo Hospital in Chennai, where the doctors detected cancer.

In accordance to her request, the family members brought her to the residence at Baktavastala
Nagar in Nellore on Sunday night where she breathed her last at 2.45 p.m. on Monday. On receiving
information about her ill-health, the Chief Minister and his wife N. Radhika Reddy rushed to Nellore
on Wednesday. The final rites were performed on the banks of Penna River.

When he got on the minbar (pulpit), he found the audience was not very enthusiastic, so he
asked "Do you know what I am going to say?"

The audience replied "NO", so he announced "I have no desire to speak to people who don't

The people felt embarrassed and called him back again the next day.

This time when he asked the same question, the people replied "YES" So Mullah Nasruddin
said, "Well, since you already know what I am going to say, I won't waste any more of your
time" and he left.

Now the people were really perplexed. They decided to try one more time and once again
invited the Mullah to speak the following week.

Once again he asked the same question - "Do you know what I am going to say?"

Now the people were prepared and so half of them answered "YES" while the other half
replied "NO". So Mullah Nasruddin said "The half who know what I am going to say, tell it to
the other half" and he left!
Coimbatore: The Coimbatore police on Sunday arrested two persons on charges of sexually
assaulting a 23-year-old Non-Resident Indian from Malaysia. According to the police, she had come
to Coimbatore to visit her friend.

Coimbatore: A 31-year-old cab driver was arrested on Saturday after he allegedly fled with a car.
According to police, G Saravanan was working with a private cab operator. He left for Kerala along
with three passengers. Since Saravanan was drunk and was driving recklessly, the passengers got
down on the way and complained to the cab owner.

But Saravanan fled away with the car along with the passenger's baggage. The car developed a
technical problem and stopped near Walayar check post. Police arrested him and seized the car. A
case has been registered.

Man held

A 26-year-old woman was allegedly set on fire by her husband at Sai Baba Colony here on
Saturday. Police said that, Karuppasamy (30) on suspecting the fidelity of his wife Manjula,
reportedly poured kerosene on her and set fire.

She was admitted to the hospital where she succumbed. Sai Baba Colony police have registered a
case and arrested Karuppasamy.

Visakhapatnam: M. Narsinga Rao, 21, who allegedly killed his mother Nookalamma at Kobbarithota,
was arrested on Sunday by the Two Town police, according to Circle Inspector.

Narsinga Rao allegedly came home in a drunken condition on Thursday night and wanted his mother
to serve him chicken curry. When she pulled him up, he beat her leading to her death.

VISAKHAPATNAM: Following frequent fires, Director of Factories G. Bala Kishore will visit the VSP on
Monday, according to sources. He is scheduled to make an assessment of safety standards being
followed by the public sector. The plant had been hit by three fires since April 10.

Visakhapatnam: The L.V. Prasad Eye Institute on Sunday conducted a free community eye
screening programme at the government school at Jogaraopeta in Kasimkota mandal. A total of 208
patients were screened by glaucoma consultant P.V.K.S. Varma.

The programme, organised in memory of Allam Sanjeeva Rao and Allam Suseela, was supported by
Prabha Bhalla and Raja Bhalla, and coordinated by Jayagopal Allam.
VISAKHAPATNAM: An engineering student of Malkapuram was reportedly kidnapped along with
another youth.

Ippili Sagar, 19, a student of first year B.Tech. and son of a medical shop owner, left his house at
Malkapuram on Saturday afternoon stating that he would get his watch repaired at Gajuwaka but
did not return. .

Around 12.30 a.m., he called up his parents and told them that he and Janagam Naveen, 23, were
kidnapped and Rs.4 lakh should be paid to secure their release.

Naveen had worked in Sagar's father Durga Vara Prasad's medical shop for seven years and
recently opened a shop of his own at Gopalapatnam.

After making enquiries with relatives and friends about the whereabouts of Sagar, his parents
lodged a complaint with the police on Sunday. The Malkapuram police are investigating.

VIJAYAWADA: The task force police and the Kankipadu police arrested two persons, Valluri Sateesh
Kumar and Vemula Ramu, and recovered 13 motorcycles worth Rs. 4 lakh from their possession on
Sunday afternoon.

The Kakinada III town police arrested 2 persons, K. Mohan and M. Uday, and recovered 2
motorcycles worth Rs.1.5 Lakh from their possession on Monday morning.
HYDERABAD: Two brothers died on the spot after the two-wheeler they were travelling on was hit
by a speeding lorry at Udumgadda on Friday morning. B. Chandu Naik (35) and Mothiya Naik (32)
were going to Chandrayangutta when the accident occurred. Hailing from Mahbubnagar district,
they were residing in Shaikpet and working as labourers. In a similar incident, a 38-year-old man,
K. Venkatesh died after a bus rammed his bike at L.B. Nagar on Friday. His father Laxmaiah
escaped with injuries. The victim was a resident of Sainagar in Nagole, police said.

HYDERABAD: The Board of Intermediate has invited applications from interested Registered
Educational Societies/Trusts for establishment of new private un-aided junior colleges and
vocational junior colleges in the State for the academic year 2011-12.

In a press release issued here on Friday, the Board requested the managements to download the
prescribed application Form-I from its website ‘www.bieap.gov.in' for the purpose and submit them
on or before April 30.

In another press release, the Board of Intermediate also invited the Registered Educational
Societies and Trusts for establishment of new private un-aided vocational junior colleges

HYDERABAD: A nine-year-old girl died after getting stuck in the grill door of the lift of an apartment
where her father was employed as a watchman at Gandhinagar on Friday.

Mamata was playfully going up and down the Gayatri Nilayam apartment building after returning
from school when the incident occurred around 2 p.m. Standing inside the lift to come down from a
top floor, the girl pulled the first grill door which did not move. “Then she bent forward and dragged
it forcibly when her head got pressed between the side wall of the lift and the grill door,”
Musheerabad Inspector P. Venkataramana said.

Her father, Devaiah, was waiting on the ground floor. On hearing her cries, he ran up the staircase
and pulled the lift door. By then, the girl suffered bleeding wound on her neck and fell unconscious.
She was rushed to hospital where doctors declared her brought dead.
A police Sub-Inspector's son, who was selected for a constable's post but couldn't undergo training
due to kidney problem, ‘shot himself to death' with his father's licensed gun in their house at HAL
Colony in Jeedimetla on Friday.

Chinnikrishnudu, 22, went into his bedroom around 6 p.m. and shot himself with his father's 12
bore double barrel gun, the Balanagar ACP, S. Damodar, said. A suicide note purportedly written by
the youngster stated that he was depressed as he couldn't attend constable training programme
because of the kidney problem.

“Nobody is responsible for my death. Please forgive me,” he said in the note requesting his brother-
in-law to look after his sister well. The youngster's father, Venkataiah, is an SI in Jeedimetla police
station.

Chinnikrishnudu's constable training programme was to commence from April 18.

On April 12, the Mohan Foundation officials received the information that a 40-day-old infant was
declared brain dead by the doctors.

“We immediately started the process of counsel the family to donate the organs of the baby.
Initially, they only gave consent to donate eyes, but later they also agreed to donate the heart
valves of the baby for harvest,” Mr. Raghuram said.

The organs were retrieved on Wednesday (April 13) and the body was handed over to the bereaved
family immediately, authorities said. This is the 110th donation facilitated by Mohan Foundation and
fourth this year.

NELLORE: As many as 36 students were booked for resorting to copying in the degree first year
examinations held under Vikrama Simhapuri University (VSU) limits from March 23 to April 13, in
Nellore district said VSU Registrar V. Narayana Reddy.

Speaking to the newsmen here on Thursday, he said about 97 per cent of the students attended for
the examinations. The university arranged tight vigil with three high power committees to prevent
copying. In future, the university will keep a tap on the institutions in which more malpractice cases
were booked this year, said Mr. Reddy and thanked the college managements for their cooperation
in conducting the examinations peacefully.

A couple committed suicide reportedly due to financial problems at Kasimkota in the district on
Thursday. Padma Raju and Vardhamani were eking out a living by making and selling papads and
other items of daily need. They have two children Divya, 13, and Chandramouli, 12. They employed
10 workers as their petty business grew and borrowed from private financiers.

Their bodies were found in the agricultural well. The Kasimkota Police booked a case against the
financiers and are investigating it.

Film writer Kasi Viswanath released the book ‘Goru Muddalu' written by P. Radha Chalapathi at a
programme organised here on Thursday.

The book is a compilation of 59 short stories.

The author has used birds and animals in the stories to hold the attention of children.

120 tonne of liquid steel spilled out when 150 tonnes was being poured into the ladle in the LD
converter-3 of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant on Thursday.

None was injured in the accident. The loss is yet to be estimated. Due to the spillage of liquid steel,
the steel transfer car, slag transfer car and the track below got completely damaged. Some cables
also got burnt.

THANE: A three-year-old child was allegedly sexually molested by her 60-year-old neighbour who
subsequently attempted suicide. The Vartak Nagar police have booked Kondiram Sadashiv Gujar, a
resident of Thane (West) on Thursday under section 377 of the Indian Penal Code for unnatural sex
and also charged him with offences for cruelty and causing harm to the girl child.
