[Not So] Sweet Revenge

By Emily Belga

Camille and Lucille were running through the woods. Suddenly, they
heard a loud scream. They turned around and saw Jason, their older
brother and their cousin, Elizabeth. It was Halloween, and they should’ve
known that Jason and Elizabeth would try to scare them.
Dressed up as a vampire and a witch, Jason and Elizabeth looked as
scary as ever. Camille and Lucille were in costume too, as twin aliens, (after
all, they were twins) and their faces were solid green from face paint.
They were all on their way to the east side of the neighborhood –
where the rich people live. There they give out giant Twix bars and jumbo
packs of gum.
But, the east side is also where the Hound Dog Hamiltons are. The
hound Dogs, as they call themselves, are the meanest, most rotten kids
ever. Not all rich people live there. Mr. and Mrs. Hamilton aren’t at all rich,
Mr. Hamilton’s a trucker and Mrs. Hamilton works at a factory, but
somehow they convinced the government into letting them rent out a
house there.
Raised with constantly drunken parents, they have no manners, no
respect, and do things no other kid would ever imagine doing. One of them
pushed another kid off of a seven-story building! Another, Grace, a girl just
a bit older than Camille and Lucille smokes cigarettes when she thinks
nobody’s around.
Yet, nobody has ever done anything about those kids, even the
police. They're probably too afraid. The mayor has tried asking the
governor of Arkansas to lend some help with getting rid of those kids. But
no one pays attention to the tiny town they live in. The neighborhood kids’
greatest fear is getting bullied by one of the Hound Dogs so they just let
them always have their way and don’t do anything about it.
You’d think all the wealthy people of Stillwater Creek would play a
part in stimulating the economy, but what’s considered wealthy here might
be considered hobo-like in the great legendary Hollywood.
It’s really weird, in Stillwater Creek, it’s everyone’s dream to make it
there, even the Hamiltons.
But enough explaining things, let’s get back to the story.
Camille, Lucille, Jason, and Elizabeth were planning on getting back at
them so they wouldn’t do anymore mean things. Out of all of them, Jason
was probably the one that wanted to get back at them the most.
Two years ago, they pushed Jason into the freezing Stillwater Creek.
The water is so freezing cold; there aren’t any plants or animals in it.
Nothing ever happens there. That’s why it’s called Stillwater Creek.
Suddenly they heard the howls and shouts of the Hounds. “Oh no!
Can you hear the dogs? I think they’re getting closer!” Camille exclaimed.
“Don’t worry,” said Jason. “We’re prepared. We have just enough
time for them to steal some kids candy, and then they’ll probably arrive
here.”
Dragging behind them were four sacks – one for each of them –
packed with things they could pull pranks with. They quickly ran into the
old house the Hamiltons always hung out in.
They had a plan. They would open the door to nonstop [almost]
harmless pranks and gags, when they slammed open the door, those nasty
Hounds. Camille and Lucille were a little concerned about pulling pranks on
those kids, for they were kind-hearted, but they did know how much those
rotten kids really deserved it, so they went along with Jason and Elizabeth’s
plan. Elizabeth and Jason had good hearts too, but it really didn’t how when
came to talking or thinking about the Hamiltons. They just made them plain
mad.
The four of them were running about the house, setting up ropes,
filling up balloons with nasty liquids, pouring some sticky stuff they found at
the junkyard, (which was where a majority of the things came from) and
hung fake spiders and snakes from the ceiling.
Just in after they finished setting up everything, they heard footsteps
approaching. It was finally time! Without saying a word to each other, they
turned off the lights, and got in hiding places they’d planned beforehand.
They heard a knock, but they didn’t see anything, it was too dark.
They were all about to say something, but they all knew it wasn’t the dogs,
because they would’ve stormed through the door. A cold wind of
disappointment blew in the air. Whoever was at the door would open the
door to an upsetting and cringe-worthy experience.
After a couple seconds of silence they heard the door creak open. It
was the…. sheriff?!?! The sheriff was there, standing in front of a couple of
other officers. One of them was holding a flipped open cell phone that
read: “Call in progress”.
“Hamilton kids, we have a call for you from the directors of that new
spy kid movie. They’re saying they heard of your actions and actually, they,
well, they want you for the sequel, ” and added in his muttered breath,
“Crazy Hollywood people. They’ll be in for a big surprise.” Realizing he
wasn’t talking to anyone, he just stood there, looking annoyed, as if it was
normal that they didn’t answer.
Just then, a huge balloon full of water was catapulted in his face, also
soaking the other officers. They entered the house. Big Mistake. They
entered into a house full of gags. Jason, Elizabeth, Lucille, and Camille
closed their eyes. It was too painful for them to see. The real trouble was
just beginning.
The four of them crept out of their hiding place and tried to sneak
through the back door, but the sheriff saw them first.
“Kids,” he said with a frown and an upset sigh, “you're in a heap of
trouble.”
The next thing they knew, they were being escorted to the officer’s
car. Five minutes later, they were all in the sheriff’s office being lectured
and questioned.
“Sir, we didn’t mean to cause any harm or anything. We were just
trying to get back at the Hounds for the all the mean things they’ve done,”
Elizabeth explained, that was sort of her thing.
“Liz, I know you kids didn’t mean to do anything bad. You're actually
quite lucky that was us and not the Hamilton kids; they would’ve beaten
ya’ll up, right off the bat. But kids, pulling pranks whether they were
intentional or not, is not good, especially to officers of the law,” he added,
with a proud chuckle, with a smirk on his face. The kids rolled their eyes. “In
fact, you kids, to tell you the truth, are really lucky. The Hamiltons are
moving to Hollywood in a week and I’ve told them to leave all of ya’ll kids
alone. You may be thinking ‘How could he have done this? He’s our sheriff!’
‘Those rotten kids wouldn’t agree to that, he must be bluffing’. But well,
kids, this time I'm not. Kay? I may not be the best sheriff around, ” and the
kids knew it, he was really clumsy, and he was quite easy to fool, but he
was a good person, funny too, and he was the greatest sheriff they could
ask for. Well, at least he was serious when he needed to be. “But this time
it’s true, and I'm serious,” and he added in a soft mutter, “Good riddance.
You kids are still going to have suffer the consequences, so you’ll be doing a
couple months of some different community services. Plus, we need
somebody to help out the community, right? So don’t think of it as
punishment, just think of it as like a community hero,” Sheriff said, the way
he does when he tries to make you think positive even though when there’s
no reason to. : “it’s good for the neighborhood.”
The kids stayed quiet through the whole lecture. But then Lucille
spoke up and said, “If the Hamiltons are really moving, ” she said still
doubtful, “then the whole neighborhood will live in peace?”
“Well, that wasn’t the nicest way to put it, but yes, yes we will.”
Sheriff replied, in the way he always does when he acts like he knows
everything.
“Peace throughout Stillwater Creek,” Jason said, casually, as if he
wasn’t in trouble at the sheriff’s office, “That sounds real nice,”

In the morning, when everyone woke up, it seemed Stillwater Creek

was already peaceful and the Hamiltons already left. Jason, Elizabeth,
Lucille, and Camille, confidently walked the streets of Stillwater, like the
Hamiltons were already gone. They passed the Hamilton’s house, and saw
the Hound Dog Hamiltons. They stared at each other for a few moments;
the Hamilton’s a dirty look, then looked away.
“This is going to be nice.”
“I agree, I can already feel it.”
“Us too,” said Lucille and Camille.
