Conference Themes
There will be a session with three speakers under each theme, with two sessions running in parallel

Theme Topics/areas under theme


Mental health, healthcare Key influences on mental and physical health in our times. Promoting
and positive psychology enduring behaviours that improve and sustain mental/physical health.
Positive psychology: Overcome barriers to individuals and communities
fulfilling their potential.
Speakers include: Professor Christopher Alan Lewis (Glyndŵr University), Dr
Jane Henry (Open University), Dr Emyr  Williams/Mandy Robbins (Glyndŵr
University)
Education, Lifelong Role of education and lifelong learning in promoting individual and
Learning and well-being community well-being. Ensuring that education meets the well-being
over the life span needs of the individual in society, not just economic needs. The different
issues in well-being over the life cycle of the individual. Maximising well-
being post-retirement and in old age.

Work, leisure, stress and Key factors in improving well-being at work: physical environment;
work/life balance management structure; leadership and management
skills/competency/style, job satisfaction; work load; stress management;
role clarity; work/life balance. Leisure and well-being.
Speakers include:Professor Ivan Robertson (Robertson Cooper Associates and
University of Leeds), Professor Suzan Lewis (Middlesex University); Professor
Andrew Smith (Cardiff University)
Behaviour, Environment The influence of the built and natural environment on the sense of well-
and Well-being being. Improving well-being through the design and management of built,
urban and rural environments. Fostering environment friendly behaviour.
Speakers include:Professor David Uzzell (University of Surrey); Dr Ambra Burls
(Anglia Ruskin University); Professor Catharine Ward Thompson (Edinburgh
College of Art and Edinburgh University)
Disadvantage, trauma and Restoring and maximising well-being in individuals disadvantaged or
disability traumatised by physical, neurological, psychological or social causes
Speakers include:Professor Linda Clare (Bangor University), Professor Stephen
Joseph (Nottingham University)

Community and Society The impact of the evolving political, economic and social system on
the well-being of individuals and communities at different levels in
the system; the psychological and social impact of inequality.
Building and sustaining well-being in disadvantaged communities.
Speakers include:Professor Carolyn Kagan (Manchester Metropolitan
University) and Professor David Fryer (Charles Sturt University, Bathurst, NSW,
Australia)
