The Unique Model

Brother Charles of Jesus

These pages were first published by R de Richemont, the executer of Father Huvelin's will. Bother
Charles had written asking Father Huvelin to publish this booklet but he died before being able to
do so.

"Dear Father,

Eight or nine years ago, while I was in Nazareth,I sketched for myself a portrait of Our Lord Jesus
Christ, based on sentences from the Holy Gospel. I have read it over and over again ever since and I
love to keep this portrait before my eyes each day. When rereading it during Holy week I had the
idea that this little booklet could be helpful for others. At first I rejected the idea as not in keeping
with the way of Nazareth that I have chosen, a way of silence and humility. As the idea kept coming
back I thought that the best would be to submit my idea to you. ... My only desire is to do the will of
my one and only Beloved, Jesus."

Brother Charles of Jesus

When the eighth day came and the child was to be circumcised, they gave him the name JESUS, the
name the angel had given him before his conception. (Luke 2:21)

HIS OBJECTIVES

Father, glorify your name! A voice came from heaven, I have glorified it, and I will glorify it again.
(John 12:28)

Father, the hour has come: Glorify your Son so that your son may glorify you. (John 17:1)

Yes, God loved the world so much that He gave His only Son, so that everyone who believes in
Him may not be lost but have eternal life. (John 1:16-17)

SUMMARY OF HIS LIFE

The word was made flesh, He lived among us and we saw His glory, the glory that is His as the
only Son of the Father, full of grace and truth. (John 1:14)

She gave birth to a Son, Her first born. She wrapped Him in swaddling clothes and laid Him in a
manger. (Luke 2:7)

He then went down with them and came to Nazareth and lived under their authority. (Luke 2:51)

Immediately afterwards the Spirit drove Him out into the wilderness. (Mark 1:12)

1
Jesus made a tour through all the towns and villages, teaching in their Synagogues, proclaiming the
Good News of the kingdom and curing all kinds of diseases and sickness. (Matthew 9:35)

There they crucified Him with two others. After Jesus had taken the vinegar,he said, It is
accomplished, and bowing His head, He gave up His Spirit. (John 19: 18,30)

He is not here, for He has risen, as He said He would. (Matthew 28:6)

Now as He blessed them, He withdrew from them and was carried up to heaven. (Luke 24:51)

THE CENTRAL VIRTUES HE TAUGHT

FAITH

Yes, God loved the world so much that He gave His only son, so that every one who believes in
Him may not be lost but may have eternal life. (John 3:16-17)

No one who believes in Him will be condemned but whoever refuses to believe is condemned
already because he has refused to believe in the name of God's only Son. (John 3:18)

I tell you most solemnly, whoever listens to my words, and believes in the one who sent me, has
eternal life; without being brought to judgement he has passed from death to life. (John 5:24)

I, the light, have come into the world, so that whoever believes in me need not stay in the dark any
more. (John 12:46)

I tell you most solemnly everybody who believes has eternal life. (John 6:47)

Let the man come and drink who believes in me. From his breast shall flow fountains of living
water. (John 7:38)

He who rejects me and refuses my words has his judge already: the word itself that I have spoken
will be his judge on the last day. (John 12:48)

Heaven and earth will pass away but my words will never pass away. (Matthew 24:36)

Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God still, and trust in me. (John l4:1)

But even if you say to this mountain: Get up and throw yourself into the sea, it will be done. And if
you have faith, everything you ask for in prayer you will receive. (Matthew 21:21-22)

HOPE

And whoever comes to me I shall not turn him away. (John 6:37)

Similarly, it is never the will of your Father in heaven that one of these little ones should be lost.
(Matthew 18:14)

For the Son of man has come to seek out and save what was lost. (Luke 19:10)

I did not come to call the Virtuous, but sinners. (Mark 2:17)

2
Many who are first will be last, and the last first. (Mark 10:31)

Be compassionate as your Father is compassionate. (Luke 6:36)

In the world you will have trouble but be brave: I have conquered the world. (John 16:33)

Father, I want those you have given me to be with me where I am, so that they may always see the
glory you have given me. (John 17:24)

There is no need to be afraid, little flock, for it has pleased your Father to give you the kingdom.
(Luke 12:32)

Whoever keeps my word will never know the taste of death. (John 8:52)

Anyone who does eat my flesh and drink my blood has eternal life. (John 6:54)

Anyone who loses his life for my sake will find it. (Matthew 10:39)

How happy are the poor in Spirit.

Happy those who mourn.

Happy the gentle.

Happy those who hunger and thirst for what is right.

Happy the merciful.

Happy the pure in heart.

Happy the peacemakers. (Matthew 5:3-9)

Happy those who are persecuted in the cause of right (Matthew 5:10)

Do not judge, and you will not be judged. (Matthew 7:1)

Give, and there will be gifts for you: a full measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running
over, will be poured into your lap; because the amount you measure out is the amount you will be
given back. (Luke 6:38)

Grant pardon, and you will be pardoned. (Luke 6:37)

Come, you whom my Father has blessed, for I was hungry, thirsty, a stranger, naked, sick, in prison
and you came to see me. (Matthew 25:34)

There are many rooms in my Father's house. I am going now to prepare a place for you. (John 14:2)

I shall return to take you with me; so that where I am, you may be too.(John 14:3)

LOVE OF GOD

3
Give back to God what belongs to God. (Matthew 22:21)

Jesus replied, This is the first commandment: Listen Israel, the Lord your God is the one Lord, and
you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind and
with all your strength. (Mark 12:29-30)

Make your home in me, as I make mine in you. (John 15:4)

Remain in my Love, if you keep my commandments you will remain in my love. (John 15:10)

If you love me you will keep my commandments. (John 14:15)

If you keep my commandments you will remain in my Love, just as I have kept my Father's
commandments and remain in his Love. (John 15:10)

The world must be brought to know that I love the Father and that I am doing exactly what the
Father told me. Come now, let us go. (John 14:31)

Father, may they be one in us, as you are in me and I am in you. (John 17:21)

LOVE OF ONE'S NEIGHBOUR

The second commandment resembles it: You must love your neighbour as yourself. (Matthew
22:39)

You have only one master, and you are all brothers (Matthew 23:8-9)

Yes, God loved the world so much that He gave His only Son (John 3:16)

He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood lives in me and I live in him. (John 6:56)

If anyone loves me he will keep my word and my Father will love him, and we shall come to him
and make our home with him. (John 14:23)

I tell you solemnly in so far as you did this to one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did it to
me. I tell you solemnly in so far as you neglected to do this to one of the least of these, you
neglected to do it to me. (Matthew 25:40-45)

I give you a new commandment: love one another; just as I have loved you, you also must love one
another. (John 13:34)

That they may be one as we are one. (John 17:22)

May they be so completely one that the world will realize that it was you who sent me. (John 17:23)

Do not judge.

Do not condemn. (Luke 6:37)

4
Forgive. (Mark 11:25)

And the amount you measure out is the amount you will be given (Matthew 7:2)

But I say this to you: offer the wicked man no resistance (Matthew 5:39)

On the contrary, if anyone hits you on the right cheek, offer him the other as well.

If a man takes you to law and would have your tunic, let him have your cloak as well (Matthew
5:40)

Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you (Luke 6:27)

In the same way your light must shine in the sight of men, so that, seeing your good works, they
may give the praise to your Father in heaven. (Matthew 5:16)

So ask the Lord of the harvest to send labourers to his harvest. (Matthew 9:37)

Happy the Peacemakers. (Matthew 5:9)

Happy the Merciful. (Matthew 5:7)

Give to everyone who asks you, and do not ask for your property back from the man who robs you.
(Luke 6:30)

I was thirsty and you gave me drink; I was a stranger and you made me welcome; naked and you
clothed me, sick and you visited me, in prison and you came to see me. Then the virtuous will say
to him in reply, Lord when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink?
When did we see you a stranger and make you welcome; naked and clothe you; sick or in prison
and go to see you? And the king will answer, I tell you solemnly, in so far as you did this to one of
the least of these brothers of mine, you did it to me. Then he will say to those on his left hand, Go
away from me, with your curse upon you, to the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.
For I was hungry and you never gave me food; I was thirsty and you never gave me anything to
drink; I was a stranger and you never made me welcome, naked and you never clothed me, sick and
in prison and you never visited me? Then it will be their turn to ask, Lord when did we see you
hungry or thirsty, a stranger or naked, sick or in prison, and did not come to your help? Then he will
answer, I tell you solemnly, in so far as you neglected to do this to one of the least of these, you
neglected to do it to me. And they will go away to the eternal punishment, and the virtuous to
eternal life. (Matthew 25:35-46)

Anyone who welcomes one of these little children in my name, welcomes me, and anyone who
welcomes me welcomes not me but the one who sent me. (Mark 9:37)

If anyone gives so much as a cup of cold water to one of these little ones because he is a disciple,
then I tell you solemnly, He will most certainly not lose his reward.(Matthew 10:42)

5
Then he said to his host: When you give a lunch or a dinner, do not ask your friends, brothers,
relations, or rich neighbours, for fear they repay your courtesy by inviting you in return. No, when
you have a party, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind; that they cannot pay you back
means that you are fortunate, because your payment will be made to you when the virtuous rise
again. (Luke 10: 12-14)

You received without charge, give without charge. (Matthew 10:8)

He called the twelve together and gave them power and authority over all devils and to cure

And He said to them, Go out to the whole world, proclaim the good news to all creation. (Mark
16:15)

As the Father has loved me, so I have loved you. (John 15:9)

I have sent them into the world and for their sake I consecrate myself so that they too may be
consecrated in truth. (John 17:19)

I have given you an example so that you may copy what I have done to you. (John 13:15)

Just as the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.
(Matthew 20:28)

Jesus made a tour through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the
good news of the kingdom and curing all kinds of diseases and sickness. (Matthew 9:35)

(John 13:1)

And as they were eating he took some bread, and when he had said the blessing he broke it and
gave it to them. Take it, he said, This is my body. Then he took a cup, and when he had returned

6
thanks he gave it to them, and all drank from it, and he said to them, "This is my blood, the blood of
the covenant, which is to be poured out for many. (Mark 14:22-24)

therefore what the Father has told me is what I speak. (John 12:49-50)

7
Nevertheless, let your will be done, not mine, (Luke 22:42)

But He turned and rebuked them. (Luke 9:55)

be opened to you. For the one who asks always receives; the one who searches always finds; the
one who knocks will always have the door opened to him. What Father among you would hand his
son a stone when he asked for bread? If you then, who are evil, know how to give your children
what is good, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him.
